I once found one rolling on the ground because it was tangled up in spider silk and some kind of fluffy moss. I carefully extracted it, didn't break any legs or wings, and when it was free to fly off, it circled around my head three times and left. I honestly think it was grateful and thanking me in its simplistic bug ways, and that experience left me with the notion that insects are more cognizant than we give them credit for.

I swat first ask questions later, Until male mosquitos start wearing pants and lady mosquitos wear skirts im not checking whether i should swat. Hell any insect that lands on me besides a bee is likely to get swatted. Also there are tons of species of mosquitos most dont bite. Again im still not checking first. You gotta bee (pun intended) pretty obvious you are not a stinging insect for me not to react outta nature. I was only five when i was in a hornets nest. It took years for me not to swat at bees even.

I've heard that it's actually not a good idea to release cellar spiders outside--they evolved to live in caves, and being sent outside can actually harm or kill them, due to the extreme shift in humidity and temperature. A good alternative would be to find a nice dark hollow place to put them, like a garage or a tool shed.

They're scary because of the way they fly. At least for me. I'm not afraid of spiders, but I am afraid of moths. I must be the odd man out because I love crane flies. I only saw them for the first time in my apartment I think three years ago. It was during the spring in Tucson and I saw one fly near the clip-on lamp by my computer. It was soon joined by several more and made for an enchanting sight. Their flight seemed magical although I can't remember why. I do remember seeing quite a few hanging around the lamp, then suddenly I couldn't see any until I looked up at the ceiling and found it covered with them. I had a really good time admiring them until, one by one, they left until there were none left. I have enjoyed them since but nowhere near as many as that wonderful spring.

Crane fly: I'm gonna lay my eggs on this vulnerability lawn, and then accidentally make my way into the house of the guy who is scared of everything that's smaller than him.
Spiders: im not gonna go after the free food, but instead go into the house of the guy who is scared of everything that's smaller than him. Oh, but not at the same time as the crane flies. Because im not looking to eat them, only scare people.

Thank you for this. So many humans needlessly kill innocent insects and other arthropods out of ignorance, fearful of genuine harm from those capable of harming us via deseases or venom. As a Vegan, I struggle sometimes, but try to always err on the side of caution, for the critters.

I have found quite a few in my house this spring as well as spring and fall of the past and as usual, I just scoop them up in my cupped hands and release them back outside. I always felt bad for them when I have found them all shriveled and dried up stuck between the glass and the screen of my windows.

I once caught one that was huge. Bigger than the normal ones. It was much slower and could actually fly reasonably well. Normally they go nuts in the jar I would catch them in, but this huge one seemed like he knew he was caught and gave up right away.
