That boss's ambient noise honestly was surprisingly creepy to me back in the day. It's like, you can hear it from far away, and it belongs to such a strong and powerful enemy, it sends shivers down your spine!
@Daytime Sky: The bosses in this game and Descent 2 were designed very well. I hope in any future installment of the game that they retain the theme of them being stationary and teleporting to escape from you.
Dude, as a kid that sound the boss constantly makes would inspire ABSOLUTE FEAR. You hear it the moment you open the door to his room. There’s no hiding he’s in there, he certainly isn’t hiding from you.
a tip to save energy is that firing your laser costs half an energy while a flare costs a whole. This has always been my favorite game, descent 2 is also amazing just because of the gauss cannon but altogether, amazing game and series.
Oh man. Talk about bringing back some memories. I bought, what was at the time, a state of the art computer JUST so I could play this game. Back then, there wasn't as much available to build your own gaming PC's. The HOURS I spent flying through those tunnels. You fly it like I did, full speed ahead with skill knowing what's around every corner. lol I still have the original diskettes for this game. It was one of the funnest "first person shooters" of that era. Thanks so much for this great, "blast from the past."
@@rain9058 Yes, I did. I had the first version of the venerable MS Sidewinder stick. I had it all programmed so that I only used the arrow keys for forward, backward, left and right movement. It was very "flight friendly" and I was able to get through the mazes in the same manner you do. It was a blast.
I still still have decent 1 disc but can't find my 2 disc I'm trying to figure out how to get it to work bypassing the no CD block but the patches are not working, I can get to level 8 on descent 2, does anyone know how to run it ?
@@rain9058I mastered flying by keyboard. Circle strafing using left and pgdn because the other way wasn't really possible. Haunting boss scanning sound. I came to hear it once more.
If I had all those hours back again life might be different!! Still the best game ever. I used to load up all stores and save my best game outside the red door and keep going back in until I got him.

I remember having a lot of fun attempting to design my own bosses using the various mod tools of the day. I remember modding an enemy weapon into a "cluster missile" that exploded into mini vulcan shrapnel (I was sick of every cluster weapon utilizing homing munitions, even more than just homing weapons in general), gave it the boss typing that made it immune to energy weapons, while making its minions guaranteed to drop Concussion Missiles. Oh, and I also adjusted its mass setting super low to make it recoil a lot when you hit it with missiles. Fun times.... Heck, I even made a giant missile that exploded into cluster missiles (each in turn exploding into mini vulcan shrapnel) and THAT was always a panic to test out in large boss rooms.
I've been reliving some great old memories watching videos of Descent One(Thanks for posting, BTW). Is there a way to get an copy of this game that plays on modern computers?
yes all are on steam for cheap 1-3 also if you have the anniversary edition you can literary copy and paste the bonus levels into the games directory and play them on the steam version it what i am doing right now.
you can use your old copy's files and just download a source port - the most popular one is called DXX-Rebirth. Alternatively, you can just use DOSBox and play practically as if it was in DOS.
Played tons of hours of this qith my cousin on dial up, my mom would 75% of the time pick up the phone and ruin our game by the other 25% were some of the greatest gaming moments of my life
I played this hours on end in the mid '90's; still have the software and Voodoo cards. Now if I could just find a Pentium-1,2,3 system somewhere and load DOS ....
@@paulsolfelt8452 I dont think you can use voodoo with modern windows and hardware. And once youve played with voodoo you never can go back to that pixelated screen! Same with carmageddon. I have dosbox on Linux - I can run all sorts of old software, havent tried games with it yet.
Back in the day, I would agree. (Above the center of the arena is a hidden alcove with a Cloaking Device/Stealth powerup, which prevents the Mega Missiles from homing in on you.)

Did you have a gaming joystick to go with it? This game was infinitely better with a joystick, made flying around feel much more natural to control.

I have descent 3 and it runs on windows 10 somehow but no luck with descent 2 !
