Really love this Glinda and Elphaba. Glinda literally reminds me of a princess in a fairytale and both look so animated. Plus, I love Glinda to not have a really squeaky voice I think her having a relatively more mature voice is fine and can still work as Glinda is a “mean girl” at this time not a child, despite her personality.
For the past year or two, I've kinda prided myself on being a Wicked geek, so I was surprised when I had never heard of Suzie..... and I think she's wonderful! I agree with comments further below that she definently doesn't sound as squeaky, but she also seems to have a slightly deeper voice than other Glindas.... but then again, I'm an ignorant Ozian who is basing her opinion off of this one sole video. :)
Well, good for you that you like the original pair and see them as the best. We all have different preferences in similar things. Musicals and songs are just a few of these (new actors, new covers). And don't get me wrong. I do I love Kristin and Idina unconditionally and I continue to support both because of their wonderful talent, but Jemma and Suzie bring a different platter to the table for this show and their blend is what I prefer. Yeah, and the Model A was the original car of the Ford Motor Company. Doesn't necessarily make it the best, though. Now don't misunderstand me. I'm not calling Idina the equivalent of a Model A, nor am I saying she isn't great. Like I said, I absolutely love her and think she's the bomb! But saying that she's the best Elphaba simply because she was the first Elphaba just doesn't cut it. There is so much more that has to be accounted for (e.g., voice quality, vocal technique, acting ability, actress's attitude/personality, etc.). With Idina, she has a beautiful voice. However, when she moves into her higher register, it essentially becomes shouting. And she also has a flawed breathing technique evidenced from the fact that when she's tired, or when her voice is strained, her breath intake is very raspy and loud. So she's probably constricting her airway and taking shallow breaths instead of breathing with her diaphram. But again, her voice itself is beautiful and she can throw down when she wants to. And where she excells is in her acting ability and her personality.
That works too. I think Elphaba also fits into Ravenclaw, she's intelligent and bookish. And the way she fought against the wizard isn't really Slytherin, Slytherins have self-preservation and would probably find a more subtle way of manipulation. The reason I think Glinda is Gryffindor is at the end, she throws the wizard out and has Morrible arrested, which does show bravery, and she does tend to show off (a negative Gryffindor trait).
I like that. A lot of people think Glinda is a Hufflpeuff, but I think she's a bit too. . .showy for Hufflepuffs, and too worried about her reputation. Hufflepuffs are loyal and down to earth, and Glinda really had to learn how to be a good friend.
