      Faz Finisher all roll on roll off are top heavy with a huge wind sail effect..there ballast pumps are way to small to compensate once a list starts...amplify that with nylon ratchet straps with only needing a 50 percent rating of the gross weight of the load makes for a very delicate handling ship...

    Cargo ship??its a roll on roll off car and equipment ship, they are notoriously top heavy and have a huge wind area, they tie down vehicles, heavy equipment and semi trailers with cargo on them with nylon straps witch stretch and fail on a regular basis, the vehicles shift inside even in slightly rough seas, and the ballasting systems cannot compensate fast enough to shift water to the different tanks do to the small transfer pipes once a list starts.

    At the 55 second point in the narration, the reporter unfortunately talks about where the bulbous bow (as in bow and arrow) transitions to the keel. Ships have bows (short O sound), not bows (long O sound). Did anybody at this TV station even listen to the report before it was shown? The reported may have never been around a ship or boat before.

    It's quite improbable that the cars would be not secured properly. Before a car carrier leaves a port, the crew and the shore people make sure that the cargo is secured. However there may be a possibility that the heavy cargo which is loaded in the bottom deck may have shifted due to improper securing. But I don't know if she was carrying any heavy cargo. If not then the ballast was improperly distributed and the stability of the vessel was not checked before departure.

    • @1986Omart
      @1986Omart 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As I said, everything falls to the captain, he maintains responsibility for every aspect of his ship. Even so, the Captain usually entrusts his Chief Mate to keep the vessels stability.
      On our ship the Captain inquires as to our GM, that's it. It is my duty to ensure the vessel is loaded pand ballasted properly.

    • @bjre.wa.8681
      @bjre.wa.8681 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly, This shouldn't be too hard to investigate. The ballast water treatment/management systems could have played a part. The BWTS maintenance of them being used in estuary waters may have been a factor, ie strainer cleanings and the depth at dock side (ship getting stuck in the mud right at dockside). It all should be in the various log books, engine room and Bridge logs.

    The ship was top-heavy. The wrong vehicles were loaded too high up. SUVs are much heavier than compact cars. Ballast could have been a problem too, and the harbour pilot may have been going too fast when he executed the turn. Regardless, it's almost all human error and an expensive mistake, or series of mistakes. I hope a few dumbasses lost their jobs.

    It’s a scratch.
    What’s the significance of all the red?
    Blood? Yeah looks like blood.
    It’s copper paint to protect the hull of the vessel from parasites.
    The question of the red is totally a question worth asking, but not when it’s being asked by an (presumably) educated grown adult as he ponders it’s significance to a capsized ship.
    Improper stabilization.
    Not. The ship just crossed the ocean. If it was not correctly secured, meaning every item of cargo, it would’ve rolled over at sea.
    The two ships passing a narrow and mostly shallow channel is the cause. This ship clearly hit a shelf, due to being too near shore. The other ship was probably to near center, fearing the same concern from the captain.
    Had they both been fully aware of what their charts (even computerized as they likely all are) indicated, the two should have safely passed beam to beam.
    But one more than likely hogged the lane, while the other was left to hit the curb, so to speak.
    Ship captains are pawns of the owners of these massive beasts. Slowing down is not encouraged, nor is waiting. A waiting stalled ship isn’t accruing money, it’s hemorrhaging money. Fuel and crew.
    I would imagine at least one of those captains was fired. Sinking a ship, full of cars, when it’s so blatantly avoidable is inexcusable. That skipper probably taxis a charter boat in the bayou these days.
