No mention of XD skip, how can we make our runs valid if we don't know how to do it?

In the Bowser Escape section, if you miss the triple jump before tje 2d section, get on the block where you would do the last jump of the triple, do a normal jump (or a double jump if you have a hard time with the single jump) and shoot a fireball at the peak of the jump. It gives just enough height for you to make it

About to borrow SMO from my cousin and play through one time normally and then start speedrunning it. This series made me want to speed run this game so much more! Thanks for the support! Hope you get speedy real fast! I did stream for a while, and got to be 9th in the world at this game but due to a thumb injury I have to take a few months off. I can still play a little so I figured I'd make myself useful and create videos in the meantime!

this is seriously the only video on youtube that was able to teach me moon skip. The fact that you go into such detail about each part of the jump is incredibly helpful cause once you learn it it's so consistent.
you're not wrong. I had already given up on doing moon skip but then saw your comment and decided to give his tutorial a go. I had only gotten it once before but you're right about the consistency! Thanks for that.

While he was fighting bowser I was still trying to do the moon skip
For anyone struggling with moon cave skip, make sure to do the hat throw into the wall right before the wall jump near the “L”. I kind of thought it was not necessary and didn’t do it but after watching the video again I started to do it and I get the skip a lot more now. It’s not 100% consistent, but it will most likely work in 1-3 tries. Hope this helps!
I also didn't do the cap throw while trying then I scrolled through the comments for advice from someone, saw yours and then tried with the cap throw and it immediately worked

still doesn't work for me at all. It didn't work in 1-3 tries, or even in 10-30. And I followed all the other steps in the video too. Maybe it's been patched out and has become a lot more pixel perfect than it was in version 1.0.0?

dude, again, thank you SO much for these videos, really helped me into starting to speedrun this game, and you were actually the first one to really help me understand how to do the moon cave skip, I watched so many videos and never got it done, and after watching this video I got in in the second try and now only fail one out of 10 times when doing it, thanks man !
same. I wasn't able to get a second bounce, even being able to see or land in the right part of the L shape. But the moment I didn't press any directional inputs on the first jump I just got moon cave skip on my first try. whack!
I'm struggling and im just trying to casually skip moon cave. I haven't done it once out of 25 times.

for anyone having troubles with moon skip, groundpound jump on the sphinx, move to the left towards the L kindof shape and go a little above the dark area of the L, do the cappy jump against the wall, wallslide for a about half a second then go against the other wall to finish the skip.
What really helped me is the extra cap throw into the wall at the L shaped rock. It gave me the extra oomph to hit moon skip 100% of the time.

After watching all of your beginners videos, I finally tried my first run. I’ve never done a speedrun or any game before in my life, but I think I did pretty good. My first time was 1:34:27. I am pretty proud of that. Thank you so much!

Thanks so much Ant, been watching for years and finaly got a switch to speedrun and ill tell you. My ability in game has gone quite high in the day ive had it. Definitly plan on speedrunning it more and hopefully mastering it (maybe even climbing leaderboards 🤔)

Its good also to slightly tilt the control stick to the left after the ground pound jump the throw cappy (if you move forward then throw cappy he’ll just return to you) you can jump in the center of the L but I like to think of it as a rectangle then wall jump to the left

Peanut Butter it’s a skip that you don’t save time but if you miss it, you just lose a lot of time. SmallAnt always goes for it

delay your dive onto Cappy as much as you can. It will always help give you more height with any jump and can make several jumps in the run much easier.

If you feel like you’re doing everything right on moon skip but you’re not getting the second wall jump, make sure you’re waiting until the peak of the ground pound jump before throwing cappy out. I couldn’t get it for a while then I tried waiting a tiny bit longer before throwing cappy and I can do it pretty consistently now. At least in my case I thought I was in the right spot but I was consistently a little bit too low
Still doesn’t work. I had a seizure trying to do this skip. Nearly died
well, watched them all, practiced a bit, downloaded live split.

and here I am.
I got 1:25:38.89
I could put all the kingdom's time, but it feels unnecessary. but I will go over how it went
-a few hiccups in cap and cascade, but overall pretty good.
-missed the bird 3 times in sand, so lost a lot of time there.
-died in the broodal fight in lake...I have no idea how... I somehow missed his head after doing the cappy throw, and kinda got desperate for a while
-Didn't go for flower skip, but died in the triple jump after that (first time dieing there...yey)
-cloud was fine
-I seriously think this was my best lost kingdom ever, but this is the first time I got it's split so I can't be sure
-metro(night) got what I'm gonna call a 2.5 cicle on wiggler. which is when I get the 3 shot perfectly, have a silent celebration while going to the corner, wait a bit, and then remember that I'm supposed to shoot it a few times... XD
-metro day, so many headbumps :p
-snow, missed the moon above the boxes the first time, otherwise pretty good
-seaside, missed the jump on the first moon way too many times, I never had an issue here before.
-Luncheon, I practiced the triple jumps, got both of them on the 2nd try. I'm happy.
-Ruined, Got hit too much, so had to wait the eletricity on the last cicle, but still got it.
-Bowser, died some times, wasted too much time on the dude you need to pound on the head, managed to stay on top of the mech 2 times, could do better.
-moon. need to practice the long jumps a bit more, missed the second flower so I was a bit slower, but got the skip on the 2nd try. I think I took to long to get to bowser on the first try so he got the hat back and moved before I got to him. missed a bunch of fireballs on the pillars.
there's a bunch that can be improved. but I'm really happy to get sub 1:30:00 first try. ^^
tomorrow I'll practice a few things and try again

I watched two other guys for moonskip, tried it like half an hour, then watched ants instructions and made it like on the third try after that lol (the L visual cue is great!)
i watched a "how to moon skip" video and I never learnt about the L spot...no wonder I couldn't get it. But hey now I get moon skip
After the L shape jump it does matter where you hit the next wall. I was aiming too close to the crevice but I went a little further out and got it my first time trying that.
For cave moon skip, I can't seem to bounce of cappy after the initial ground pound. any tips smallant?
hendrix795 don’t dive into cappy you kinda just move towards him and bounce off
make sure to hold cap throw button
also make sure to not move forward until the apex of the jump

I had the same problem too but I wasn’t holding left onto the second wall after the first wall jump and once I did, I started getting it

Why can I never get moon skip in a run. I do it while practicing but never in a run
Your comment about needing the hat jump from Cappy to do Moon skip feels like it should have been common sense but I was able to get it within 5 tries after hearing that, after spending nearly an hour before not knowing what I was doing wrong.
(Also Odyssey is the first traditional Mario game I've ever beaten and I only started playing bc of your channel, thank you for having such great content!)
It takes like 5 seconds for me to see the slide animation so by the time I jump I am nowhere near the top

I'd you're having troubles with the second wall jump in moon cave skip, just mash the mother loving fuck out of the b button once you get the first wall jump. Works for me.
