I just wanted to share with everyone, If there is anyone trying to assign the Leslie rotation on the Hammond to your controller, which I noticed was not working with my faders or knobs, nothing was working, I tried my sustain pedal and,
IT WORKS!!!! GOT THE LESLIE TO WORK ON MY HAMMOND! Very Happy!
There might be other folks out there that would like this info. Thanks for your videos!
By the way I'm using a M-audio Radium 49 controller.

Apple's attention to detail *and* that they now include this with any modern iphone or ipad purchase is really incredible. Thanks for sharing how this is all put together, I had no idea it was this complex and accurate.

The Hammond Organ was originally made as an alternative to the Pipe Organ back in the 1920s & 30s because it allowed Organists to practice at home along w/ the ease of maintnence. These Hammonds have also sucsesfully found their way into various music genres especailly Rock because of their Iconic sound. So these Organs are such a Big Icon in everything from Classical, to Pop, to Jazz, to Rock, you name it. The Hammond Organ company is in business again & they've used Ultra-Light weight Tonewheels this time.

Hammond also made Draw Bar Organs w/ 2 additional Stops above that which were the 7th & 9th, & the higher pitched 3rd & 5th above the 1 ft Fundamental.

Absolutely brilliant tutorial. Why can’t Apple make information videos like this?

  • @timpullen4941

You got confused between chorus drawbar on the very early Hammonds which engaged a second tone generator with its own set of spinning wheels which were detuned by a few cents to give a chorus sound. What you switched on was the scanner vibrato tab. This varies the entire organ's pitch up and down causing a quivering effect. Hammond had a normal vibrato and a chorus vibrato where the audio signal was split and part of the signal had the wobbly frequency change applied and then the straight organ sound was merged back in the pre amplifier to give a sound combining the straight sound and the wobbly vibrato sound.

@@DanBakerMusic Yes the Hammond Organ was originally designed for Pipe Organists so they could practice at home & good thing Hammond is back in business again

Hammond Organs today now have 96 Tone Wheels, 8 Octaves from C1 to B8

  • @RockStarOscarStern634
    @RockStarOscarStern634 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Foldback is the same thing as break back & the reason the highest notes on the 4 (or 6 if it's an X or H model) Highest Drawbars Break back is because they didn't have tone wheels small enough for those high notes.

It is a truly excellent sound! The lack of control over finer details of the Hammond sound is more than made up for by the simulation...

I recommend the Hammond organ videos from Pete John Studio Live.
Remember to be very careful when recording the Hammond organ because if it's recorded, there is no way to make changes by editing rotation, drawbars, etc.
These organs in GarageBand include classic rock, heavy metal, soul organs, and more. You can get more than 3 organs by downloading the keyboard collection to access it.

Can you not record on a loop and first record tye notes and then the drawbar chafes as it loops back round? I’m sure this is a thing. Works with wah pedal too I believe.

I bought the Ipad Mini 4 to control my drone exclusively. Now I discovered that Garage Band has a realistic sounding Hammond B3, which I adore. I love it so much. I'm still trying to record some tracks but having a tough time understanding how. With your help I will figure it out.
    Thanks..

On a Mac it IS possible to change the drawbar, Leslie etc settings after you have recorded the notes. Search TH-cam and you'll find demos. I'm not sure this is possible on iPad.

    • @DanBakerMusic

Yes totally. In Logic it’s a breeze. Not possible on iPad however....

So how do I get my actual Hammond ( keyboard ) to record into garage and or shall I not even try and buy a stand-alone 16 or 32 multi-track. I can deal with garage band on my I pad but no-way do I want anything resembling a computer in my house😱

This is great - thanks Dan! Do you know if it is possible to control the drawbars & rotation on GB iOS via a midi-controller - I use a Roland A500Pro. This is post indicating that you may be able to do it on a Mac www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php?threads/assinging-midi-controls-in-garageband.1709222/#post-24876710 (CC70-78 for the drawbars, CC80 for the rotation) - I'm going to have a go but if you have a definitive YES/NO, that'd be great

Hi there: I don't think so-you could rig up keyboards of different ranges but not different drawbar settings. Mind you, this is a free plugin!
