  • Today's podcast guest is Rosaline Chow Koo, the Founder & CEO of Asia's leading InsurTech startup, CXA Group. We chat about why she moved to Singapore and the advantages & disadvantages of navigating business in Asia as a female Asian American serial entrepreneur.
    Rosaline grew up in a poor and chaotic environment, developing survival skills and becoming street smart (especially during events like the L.A. Watts riots). This adversity early on in life is what ultimately contributed to the success she has now, giving her the resilience and motivation to push through when times are tough.
    Listen to this podcast episode to hear how Rosaline built the biggest InsurTech startup in Asia, why she thinks there are more opportunities in Asia than the US, and advice for aspiring female leaders on how to navigate the glass & bamboo ceilings.

    I grew up in Australia from migrant parents fleeing Vietnam war, so never thought of returning to Asia to live/work as my home is now Australia. And supposedly the living standards are better here so I am considered lucky. But looking how Asia is today, I wonder if I’m missing out… all major cities in Asian countries are even more developed than Sydney /Melbourne… one big factor of not returning there is language.. But Singapore is English speaking.. so maybe that’s an option..

      Depends on your current situation & future plans/ambitions. Plenty of trade-offs with staying/leaving Aus. Language is definitely a big barrier unless you go to Singapore. Vietnam could be interesting, especially as it goes through rapid growth.

      Check deeper before you make any decision. Singaporean lookdown to other Asians except themselves and whiteman, this is what I see and told by friends. As a Malaysian I speak Cantonese, when I speaks in Cantonese in Singapore the services and smiles were there but when I answer a call using Mandarin the service level change to lower grade.......

    Great interview. It’s not common to see abcs who’ve become successful entrepreneurs in Asia, but Singapore might be the best city to do so, since everyone speaks English.

    Hi Rosaline, I have the same concept of making the Govt tax money to pay for your insurance without any or little of your own money. This is how I manage to get clients to sign up their insurance program. What a great pop cast! I would be happy to share my concept with you, Rosaline if you want to contact me. Thanks again and keep up the pop cast series!!

    “There is no prejudice against Asians in Asia” it’s more like people of Chinese descent enjoys Chinese privilege in Singapore because it’s a Chinese majority country. There is PLENTY of prejudice in Asia. Just ask any Indian or Pakistani person living in China or Filipino living in Hong Kong. People can get rejected of rental contracts because of their race. Asia is equally racist, if not more, as the west and the worst part of all, people in Asia don’t realize it

    • @aero.l
      @aero.l 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nonsense. I'm a minority Singaporean and I feel much safer in Singapore and Hong Kong than in Western countries. As if Westerners have a clue when they're being racist. Racism exists in every country but at least in Singapore and Hong Kong, it doesn't descend to racial violence. That is true for most Asian countries.

    You talked about discrimination and all that, yet you called Hong Kongers Hongkies? Maybe you deserve all the discrimination you have had in the States because you can't respect other cultures either?

      nice one! Best of luck with it, lots of stuff you can cover from Asia. The upcoming Black Myth: Wukong game looks so sick... hopefully the devs can deliver something close to the AAA games that are produced in the West
