- This is it. The seminal legendary movie that nobody saw !
The story of the young, hip, single gad about London town Professor of paleontology, Tony "disco pants" Farms.
In this adventure Tony discovers that he's not just a hue-man, he is a super-type-man.
After being discovered by an Aztec priest (after he throws Tony out of a window first) Vadinho (please stop screaming every time you see his face) kissing his frog necklace and tells Tony that he is like his father, and his father's father - and his father's father's father.. [ snip ]. He how the powers of a puma and err..can fly (very badly) and *ahem*.. walk through walls... just like the... wild cat... He is the PUMA MAN !
(And please note - it's not pronounced "poo" it is "you" P-YOU-MA Man.)
The Aztec priest tells of a big ugly golden mask (with a circuit board inserted into the base) which has fell into the hands of Donald Pleasance (who is already dressed and ready for the leather fetish party later on) and is using to control the minds - and also to create some terrible Madame Tussaud rejected heads (Is that Al Gore?) which he inserts wires into for some reason.
His unwitting assistant, the alluring Jane Dobson, daughter of the Dutch Ambassador (with this Rocher, you are spoiling us !) is under the power of Kobras (Pleasance) and lures Tony into a trap, but then he slowly gets away.
Tony battles with Kobras and his Italian actor henchmen, who are over in London on a jolly and hire a Rolls Royce, a Mercedes sports card and a couple of Jaguar XJ's, which are eventually wrecked (though the Rolls thankfully isn't).
But they do pick on the Volkswagens - the Aztec priest vandalizes Tony's VW Beetle.
Also keep an eye out for the love child of a fire engine and a VW camper van.
I've wandered off now... where was I...?
Oh yes the terrible special effects with the flying ("lucky these mini trampolines were here heh ?") and the weak subplot about Donald (Kobras ! Kobras...aaah..) trying to take over the world by inviting all the important military leaders to his mansion and using the badly designed mask (did they find it in a dump ?) to get them to all nod. Which they do.
There's some more crap flying (BOING ! BOING !), fight scenes... a bit of graphic violence on Vadinho (he doesn't seem to mind), walking through walls and then Tony unconvincingly plays dead to convince a henchman his is dead.
And the music ! Composed on a Casio - digital watch. This is what inspired Daft Punk to form don't you know.
In the end... well I don't want to spoil the ending.
It's not one of those run of the mill hero wins, kills the baddie and gets the girl type of movies let me tell you !

I saw this film in Mexico with my grandma many many years ago. In that time I loved it. For many years I have been remembering the music of the film. Thank you for giving me again this wonderful memories!!!!

I saw this more than once in South-Africa as a 7 year old when the daycare centre hired a movie projector, don't remember much, but will also never forget some of it. As far as I remember I thought it was awesome.
You gotta check out the MST3K version then!
And yet, quite amazingly, this is a still way more genuinely enjoyable superhero film than that 2011 Green Lantern movie.
Or any of the Zack Snyder DC Movies.

If my memory serves me good, this is the first film I have seen in cinema. The only thing I remember is that the guy was able to fly after putting his red belt on. Thanks for the upload.

One thing that always struck me about this film is how good Vadinho’s actor is, and especially the intensity with which he professes this crazy space religion. He has this gravitas about him which is both ludicrous and perfect for this silly, silly movie.
He's my favorite character in the whole thing.

The director also said the main actor (American, which is quite obvious from his accent) was hired because the Italian production company at that time usually prefered to star an English-speaking actor rather than Italian. That's why he was chosen even though he was not a professional actor. The Pumaman was his only starring film, according to the director, because he was working as a lawyer (he said he might still be in that profession).

As I suspected, the MST3K cut out the earlier scene with the guy and his British friend. The scene where he got the tracking device seemed out of place in their cut.
That movie was even bad when I saw it back in 1985 when I was 11. One time, I was tempted to call Walter George Alton's office (He's a lawyer now) and say in a deep voice "You are the Pumaman!!!" or ask him, "So have you made little Pumamen with Jane yet?" LOL
I must confess... I find myself humming the theme song to this movie sometimes!
Be honest laserblast is better than this movie uncut it’s a lot of fun to watch this movie is really a ripoff of the 1978 movie superman😊

I pride myself on my fair judgment, so I'm obligated to give credit where it's due.
1. Donald Pleasance put real effort into his performance despite being cast solely for name recognition. I admire that. He could have easily phoned it in.
2. This did ancient aliens before it was cool. It's no Stargate, but then again, what is?
3. I've never seen a story where the steadfast mentor figure gives up at the darkest hour. I'm not saying it's good or bad storytelling, but it is different.
4. The protagonist is willing to drop a man to his death if he doesn't talk. Heroic characters rarely have an "ends justify the means" attitude. It gives me Renegade (Mass Effect) vibes.
5. Themes of deriving power from mental discipline are typically found in Eastern and Eastern-inspired stories, so to see it in a Western context is pretty fresh.
6. The theme song slaps harder than even the strongest of pimp hands.

According to Alberto De Martino's interview with a French website (Nanarland, meaning "The Land of the Bad Flicks", one of the biggest bad movie review site in French), he made this to be intentionally a little bit silly (like a superhero spoofing) but not exactly as a comedy. I think it creates a production ambiguity and thanks to MST3K which cleverly exploited this problem, the movie today is seen as (almost nothing but) so-bad-it's-good flick, an interpretation (ironically) half right and half wrong.
Even if that's true, it can't cover the fact that Walter George Alton is a pretty bad actor (he was clearly going for "charming and roguish", but came across as "smug and whiny" instead), and Donald Pleasence was so bored he was nearly catatonic.
Heck, Alton is not an actor at all. He's a lawyer, and this was his only role. (Unless you count his appearance on the Daily Show)
