i strted taking those pills via prescription with no knowledge, yes when i look back a wish i had looked them up, but sometimes people gotta get through it, come out the otherside and just move on, time heels , also im in the uk, the painpill situation over here isnt like in the states
The redhead girl in recovery in the beginning that goes around helping people, giving them food/water, hugs, advice, etc. is really inspring. She has no obligation to do it, but she knows how the addict and homeless life is and is just trying to brighten someone's day and give them a little hope. I really like how she isn't forcing anyone to go get help or telling them how bad their lives are... they already know they need help and that their lives suck. She understands that you can't force someone to get clean, they have to want it on their own. The greatest thing she is offering is compassion, love, and HOPE.

Only 32K views? It's a well made documentary. For me, the take away was President Obama's personal commentary. For the President to take ownership of his own personal experience, now that deserves huge props. I respect honesty. I also find it refreshing that MTV has chosen to remind patients that they must act responsibly in asking for opioids. Honesty and personal responsibility, kudos to the MTV team!

In a tragic turn of events, Alaina succumbed to her addiction a few days ago. She was a fighter, but her demons were too much for her gentle and fragile soul. RIP Alaina Michelle....forever in my thoughts...

I'm going through this battle with my mother that's 70 years old. How do I even begin to get a handle on this?😭I watch these TH-cam stories hoping I'll hear some kind of miracle of how to stop a legal addict. This is killing me and her slowly.

Jennifer Balseca opiate pain killers have their medicinal uses. Stage 3 uterine cancer that was killing me 3 years ago is a very valid reason for OxyContin and Morphine. And I followed my doctors orders on how to come off opiates. Also should my GYN oncologist lose his medical license or go to jail for prescribing me OxyContin when I truly needed it?

It needs to be as easy to get into rehab as it is to score a bag. Maybe more people would seek help if it was easier then the drugs themselves.
I think in some cases at least it's about if they are willing to stay Willingly. Can't speak for everyone, but I know 1 - 2 ppl that was the issue.

I commend Macklemore, his impact is far-reaching as a musician. my son was at a couple of meetings that he attended and I know that his presence there and his willingness for recovery had a long-term effect on my son. my son still struggles with addiction although he has more clean days than not
I cried throughout this whole documentary. This is very empowering. I hope these people get the help they needed.

the only issue I have with this is they want to stop giving opioids to EVERYONE even to the ones that need them. I have a chronic pain condition to where I feel the same pain as a stage four cancer patient and I need opioids to have a halfway decent quality of life and I can't even get them. they need to realize each pain management patient is different and not clump them all together as addicts just because we need pain meds

Yes medical cannabis is the best form of medicine, and outperforms any opoid
And you dont have to suffer the serious side effects, or end up dying of an overdose
But there are other alternatives - wearing a quell device, bowen technique, essential oils, stem cell therapy etc
sheila myers my take on this documentary was that opioids need to be prescribed for extreme pain and suffering, not just for a broken wrist. your situation may very well meet that requirement. Even so, the use needs to be monitored carefully and medication should be changed to different families to prevent building up a tolerance. The last thing someone suffering from debilitating pain needs is to pile addiction on top of everything else they're struggling with. I hope you can take care of yourself.

Nick Nelson opiates have their medical uses. Cancer pain and life threatening injuries are valid reasons for narcotic painkillers. If you don't think so I wish that kind of pain on you.

my addiction started at seventeen when i was diagnosed with cancer at seventeen i expressed to my doctors that i was afraid of becoming addicted to my pain meds i was told that we'd worry about that problem when is happens seven almost eight years later i was ready to confront my addiction i went back to those same doctors i got a couple 1 800 numbers and that was is those numbers led to facilities that cost $60,000 or more i cant afford that shit so the last two or three years I've been struggling with it and it seem to be no end in sight i pray something is done for everyone facing this same problem......more people need to see this documentary!!!
Stephan Surtees yeah but you have to admit that opiates have their valid medicinal purpose. I am also a cancer survivor and have no regrets using morphine and OxyContin allowed me to recover from invasive cancer surgery without complications.

this is deep, music talks of drugs as if they all good and, "i cant feel my face", is some shit we danced to, the world needs help, addiction is real and its a real issue. Macklemore is a real G, much respect.

Here in South Africa you can smoke in rehab. I always scratched my head and wondered about it when I was there. Also, I believe it is alcohol that kills more than all drugs combined. That is what I was taught in rehabilitation. You can die from alcohol withdrawal. You won't die from cigarette withdrawal. I get what you are saying though. Long-term use of cigarettes has links to cancer and heart disease etc. Same with alcohol, liver cirrhosis, kidney failure etc. Not sure where or how it all ends

It cost $500 to get an appointment with a suboxone doctor. How crazy is that? Then the medication is about $20 per day. Plus every doctor visit after that is $100. It is ridiculous. An addict that is at the bottom and stealing to make $20 to buy pills or heroin does not have that kind f money. They need to make it easier and AFFORDABLE to get help.

My addiction didn't start until several years after that house party when a "friend" started selling percs. It didn't take long for it to get out of control. I actually took some percs last night for the first time, decided to come back and watch this. But nonetheless i did enjoy the experience, i don't feel addicted, but I'm definitely not flushing the rest of my stash. Not going to abuse what I have left, going to use it to feel good and on special occasions.
Great video, but there IS a choice in addiction. We need to remember that. Without willpower and work, there is no escape. But the power is in each person to succeed.

I showed this to my friend who has had a problem with heroin for a few years, he told me I was very brave to send it to him being in the sensitive situation he is in of others knowing of the problem. He said he watched this and he would like to seek help from the right people and to not want to feel like he needs to be in this situation anymore. I'm glad I forwarded this to him, I know his situation and its hard to know that he wasn't like this at all just back even in 2011. Just the past few years my buddy has gotten into it and got worse and worse and I've been dying to get him to a good mental state to see what he's doing to himself. I think now he's really starting to understand this as a disease like they said and not something that is a private hell sort of situation, something he thinks he needs to do to survive day to day, yet ironically is a huge contributor to deaths. I'm not mentioning his name for obvious reasons but I want him to know and you guys to know that he is a very good person and I would love to see a better future for the people who go through this every single day still. This video was very explanatory of the whole situation and calls out what can be done, I'm very grateful I found this video as a thumbnail while on TH-cam today. Thanks guys for reading, peace. ✌🏻
I was hoping he would talk about how Kratom can help with opiate addiction. But this hit me hard. I'm a recovering addict, and many people in my family are addicted to opiates. It is so scary how bad the epidemic has gotten.

Just watched it! I don't have all this problems but definitely helps to put myself in their skin and the must important to not judge other people, we all can be there (because of drugs, alcohol, depression, etc) and how with just support each other can be really helpful. I hope all the people that dealing with this find their way, stay strong and feel confidence and not ashamed for it.

On top of this treatment, people need love and support. Someone who will constantly invest their time in them for their betterment is more often than not the solution people need. To feel good, to feel valued, necessary and important and have someone show them how to be happy and strong doing healthy things together with a reward of success at the end is, in my opinion, the only way to recover from such sickness. The real disease of addiction starts because there's no love from anyone to help you make the right choices.
We also need to have an open conversation on how ADDICTIVE SUBOXONE AND METHADONE ARE! They can be a beneficial short term medicine but are just as addictive as heroin and opiates themselves. Trading one aaddiction for another isn't helping

I've got friends that have problems with this and never understood some of the things that were coming out of her mouth. I need this, I can't live without it, I want to die so on and so on. I've never really thought of how it became a problem, just that it was for some of my friends. Wow what an eye opener. rochelle123ist I agree, any end of life stage pain does suck, worse than anything anybody could ever know without having come close to it themselves. Obviously, those with terminal illnesses and extreme chronic pain should be treated and certainly everyone would want the patient to be as comfortable as possible. IF its certain someones literally on their death bed, thats conpletely different than what these are used for now. I'd never tell someone suffering illness not to aid their pain, but id sure as hell warn anybody else about them. Oxys now fentanyl.....are nothing to mess with. There's alternative methods of treatment for pain relief that aren't opiates. What did my comment have to do with cancer patients at all???

I have been a addict for 8 years and the struggle is real. I WANT so bad to get clean and sober and I can't afford it. The resources out here are terrible. The top notch facilities are outrageous and it makes no sense to me. I have called these places and asked them, how in the world do u think a addict can pay for these treatments? Seriously? We have no money. Do u know that one place told me that if my family cared enough they would help? I was speechless. Not everyone has family that gives a shit. Speaking for myself, I feel like I'm stuck in a never ending circle and I want so bad for it to open up. I don't expect sympathy for being a addict, in fact it's far from that. I want to be able to afford help. I don't know anymore. I cry myself to sleep at night because I don't see the light at the end of the tunnel. My dream is to one day open a place with top notch care for addicts. A place for mothers to go and have the resources to provide help with their children, so they have the ability to get clean without worrying about leaving their babies for a long period of time. This is my dream and I hope that one day it will come true. In the meantime, I have thought about setting up a go find me to help me but I'm ashamed. Not only for asking for help, but for having to put my entire life out there for everyone to see, especially my children. I don't know what to do???? Tim Garvin thank!!!!!! It means a lot. I'm. It one to just say what people want to hear. I seriously want to get sober so bad but I can't do it alone. I have tried and have even tried by going to a detox for 10 days. It's just not long enough. I end up going back. 😢 I think what makes it even harder is my children and being a single mom. I can't afford to be sick and suffer through it. I can't just lay in bed until the storm passes. I'm screwed no matter what I do until I find a way to get into a facility for at the least 30 days and figure out where my babies will go. Again thank u for your kind words. 💙
Or go to a detox and come home and be able to do out patient while my kids are at school. But again, I don't have the money.
Kara Beltran, I wish I could tell you where to go specifically to get the help you need. But if you are looking for outpatient rehab programs, they do exist! They may cost significantly less than the inpatient facilities and you can still be with your children. Do you have medicaid? If not, try to sign up for it to see if you qualify. They may be able to cover some of your costs. Also, we are in an age of technology. If you have many compassionate friends on social media, try to create a gofundme with your story and ask for 1$, 5$, 10$ donations. If you have them share it, it could reach more people. I have seen a lot of people's medical bills helped simply by small but many generous donations around the country and across the world. Good luck! You have already started your process of rehabilation, just by realizing you need help and trying to get it.
If you could call Memphis Recovery Center in Memphis Tennessee, I really believe they can help you. They helped my son who didn't have any insurance.

His repeated failure to utter a single extemporaneous sentence on issues like this is a direct reflection of the poverty of his thinking. Not merely his poor vocabulary and sentence structure.

Neurotin/ gabapentin seems to be a 'cure all' amongst all medical fields. Depression, neuropathy, anxiety, seizures etc. I was on it for neuropathy for a few years which maxed at 4xs a day and roughly 3,500 to 4,000 if not more by the end. I really think it does more harm than good long term. Sure it helped initially when the extreme nerve pain kicked in but not so much after that. I know a handful of people with different medical issues whod taken it long term and also believe it caused them each more problems than any help itd ever brought.

Yes this is so true here in eastern ky there are big I take between 5-10 800mgs a day started as a prescription "that drunk feeling" now I can't stand the world can't remember anything and can't even sleep or eat without them not to mention the stomach problems it has caused ugh I hate them so much

I love her point about who is getting addicted, and how that relates to the change in stigma. When minorities were addicted, people saw it as a defect, now that white people are too, NOW is considered a problem. Ridiculous, but true.
Christina what's even more ridiculous is cancer patients not being given adequate pain relief. Trust me stage 3 uterine cancer was very fucking painful.

Christina its jot obly about race but about class. I am white and come from a place of poverty and i never did drugs but i was surrounded by people who were. And it been like that for a long time.

Majella Campbell it's not even prescription opiates anymore, the transition from prescription opiates to heroin/fentanyl happened like 3-4 years ago, more so in the last year or 2. You rarely hear about full blown addicts on OxyContin or Percocet or any other of the household prescriptions anymore

It's too bad iBogaine and other psychedelics are illegal because if they were used for treatment this problem would go away much quicker; it also doesn't help that drugs like heroin aren't regulated.
look up kratom, the DEA just made that chemical illegal because they dont profit from it like they do with the doctors getting people hooked on opiates. you think this epidemic wasnt a crafted plan? look at who profits from the percocet, vicodin etc. and then the rehab drugs and facilities.. and then the heroin trade, from the drugs being sold on the streets to the profits being made in private prisons when they fill em up with dealers and users.. its all apart of the plan
drugs like cannabis, ibogaine, kratom. cant be controlled so easily so they make it illegal, its obvious when you look at how the DEA schedules drugs. cannabis is a schedule 1 with heroin, but cocaine is a schedule 2 drug i believe. i may be wrong, dont qoute me on it.

Gabapentin and suboxone....more drugs that are hard to get off of.
Nope. If done exactly the way the doctor says to taper, there won't be any problems. I used Suboxone for 3 years and have been off them for 8 months now. On the jump-off, the next day or two after taking the very last dose, there is a little "bump" in the road. A very, very slight withdrawal but nothing that would keep a normal person from going to work, etc. So, as long as it's done correctly, long and slow taper, there won't be any problems. Suboxone saved my life.

Stephanie Weston doctors slowly cut the dos down any doctor that dose his job will cut the dos down that cares for his patients. and nt just cares ab making money. my husbands doctor just lowerd his meds when you start for getting to take your meds then you kne its working. i have my husbands to take home drug test and i watch him . take them.
That's the truth. Suboxone was harder for me to come off of than oxy. On the flip side it did keep me from dealers and illegal things
subs is a better monkey than heroin tho. gabapentin is better than a relapse. these things can help. i was on baclofen which is just as hard to quit as gabapentin and suboxone and i got off both successfully. if the drugs are used correctly they can do a lot of help. theres no reason in saying "suboxone another drug for her to get off of" because she was already opioid dependant. suboxone is to wean her off the dope. gabapentin she said is for anxiety but any gaba drugs should help with keeping people from relapse. she can ween off of that too. better than dying from heroin.

I live in Washington State close to Mount Vernon and have had most of my family go through drug addiction and some still struggling. I visit Seattle and Everett often and I can't help but want to save everyone who is obviously struggling with addiction, having lost people close to me because of this disease.
8 years addicted to Hydromorph Contin and I'm only 24. My best friend, my worst enemy, an enigma - all in one. "Heidi" (as is the term commonly used for this drug in my area - NW Ontario) is always there for me when I need her. I can't imagine my life without it, although I do have the desire to rid it out of my life - I just can't seem to get there. The mental aspect of it coupled with the physical, makes the drug a necessity in my mind at this point - I started using to self-medicate my anxiety and self-loathing - I love myself and my mind is tranquil when I use the medication, making it extremely attractive to my mind. I know I need to fix the root of the issue, that being the issues I have mentioned above, but it feels like there is a glass wall separating me from getting the help I know I need. Perdue Pharma produces most opioid medications that are abused by the public (Oxycontin, Hydromorph Contin, Percocet, Dilaudid) and are well aware of how many pills are being diverted and abused. This isn't just a metropolitan issue - it is an issue that affects all social classes and neighborhoods, towns, cities. I want out - but I just don't know where to begin.

I am from Southern Ontario and lost my brother to it in Feb 2014, he was really trying to get clean and couldnt get his methadone one night and picked up some fentynal. I truly hope you can find the strength to get away from opiates, shit is the devil and you are still really young

Absolutely not. Opiates exist for a reason. Your example would be one of the main reasons someone would get opiates prescribed to them.
