Suggestion: keep your chicken feed in a metal trash can. It keeps out the mice and other critters. Do you have water running into the area? Put it underground freeze level. Make it handy to water them otherwise it will be a big chore carrying water in the winter. I didn't realize how noisy chickens are. When they lay their eggs they cackle loudly. We have nesting boxes attached to the outside of the coop. So we don't have to enter the run to get eggs. We keep a separate set of shoes for walking in the run so we don't bring any poo into the house. Store the straw for the nesting boxes on that raised platform. You'll have plenty of used straw and poo to make compost. They have solar doors on timers to let chicken in and out so you don't have to manually open it for them. I like to make it convient, maybe you don't. Painting the wire mesh and the frames black and putting wire on top was genius. Looking good, Mike!

You should also burry a base of hardware cloth around the edges so nothing can dig in! Especially around the door.

Again, unbelievably creative!!! BTW: the predators can dig under the fence.

FANTASTIC job!!! I love it all. I have never had chickens, but a coworker has raised them for decades. Based on his experiences I will offer a few suggestions which you may have also thought of.
    1. My coworker ordered the eggs and hatched them under lights. It was not until the baby chicks grew older that he was able to tell which were roosters and hens. He gave away the roosters as they are loud.
    2. Predators will dig under the fence so bury chicken wire under ground so they can’t get under.
    3. When daily collecting eggs he would find on an occasional basis, black snakes in the nesting boxes. Be prepared to deal with those.
    4. Have a plan of what to do with the hens when they get old and no longer produce eggs, as you will have plenty of “pet” hens that will cost you money but not produce eggs.
I wish you the best, I love your enthusiasm. ❤❤

Amazing job!! You have a great eye for creativity.
Im no expert, but from what I've watched others do, the coop will need something stronger than chicken wire since you have fox and raccoons. I think its called 1/2 inch hardware cloth. Also, the hardware cloth will need to extend underground and out to keep predators from the 3 piece and a biscuit buffet. 😊

I have a garden and chickens and I'm so excited for your chickens to arrive! I love that the run is semi-hidden! So secret. You will need seating near them so you can be with your flock. I would highly suggest changing the chicken wire to hardware cloth and the ceiling needs covering too. Chicken wire is to keep chickens in but hardware cloth keeps predators out. I have an automatic programmable chicken door I got from temu that's been awesome for a year. With ventilation I added fans on timers in the summer inside the coop. All your ventilation needs hardware cloth screens.

So darling! Can't wait to see what critters you bring in. Love your rock walkway. My experience with mine is that chickens will dig out the dirt around them looking for bugs, so sometimes I have to reset them and push dirt back around them. Chickens are so relaxing and addictive to watch. They are such characters and another interesting thing is the different sounds they make- one that makes me think of R2D2. I currently have a big rooster that sounds like the chicken version of Jimmy Stewart when he crows. I'll be curious to see what other fowl you get! New to your channel, but I'm definitely hooked!

It's super cute. As a long time chicken owner I gotta warn you. Every predator you mentioned can easily dig under your cup and thr tree behind there will just make it really easy for them to get over in there. I know you said your gonna do a top but I felt certain you would work around the tree and not take it down. Just food for thought.

I would say for your top, use hardware cloth and not chicken wire - chicken wire is too flexible and will not hold a predator's weight. Also, same for the tree - surround the tree with some wood and hardware cloth to keep your chickens safe

I agree with laying boxes accessible from the outside. The entire inside will be lined with poop after a short time and it would be tedious to always change your shoes. Much simpler to be able to have a quick check for eggs.

I absolutely love what you have done with the coop. I am sure you're going to put something around the base to prevent the critters from digging and crawling in, or else you will be losing your hens to Critters. Just when I thought my coop was totally safe, a large snake went right through one of those holes and got all my baby chicks. Living in the city, we had never seen a snake until we got our hens. The next day, I had workers put what they called hard wire (little squares)all over my chicken wire. Never knew snakes could stretch themselves so skinny to slide in. No more issues after that. Good luck.

Very cute and super charming. My husband and i have raised chickens for a good part of 20 years. Weve also dabbled with peafowl ( guineas, peacock etc) , ducks, turkeys you name it. It seens like you are one to do youre research so im not going to say a bunch about birds but i will say starting with babies can be very fun and rewarding but also more work as far as keeping them warm for a while even when you think they would be fine without the heat. Oh and peacocks cant be around chickens when they are young. Something about they are prone to getting sick if introduced to chickens too early. I cant remember exactly but they also arent suppose to have their feet touch ground until they are of a certain age. Peacocks that is. They were hard for me to raise and ended up after i got them good and grown they escaped and flew off. 500$ flew off. Anyways enjoy your precious coop and i cant wait to see who gets to live there.
