Raag which literally translates to colouring; is a melodic framework for improvisation. Each raag is considered to have the ability to ‘colour your mind’; and affect your emotions. Every raag has its time of day and a feeling associated with it.
Yaman is considered to be one of the most fundamental raag of Indian classical music; it is thus often of the first raag taught to students.
