日光，梵名Su^rya-prabha。又作日曜菩薩、日光遍照菩薩。藥師如來二脅侍之一。身呈赤紅色，左掌安日輪，右手執蔓朱赤花。
“日光菩薩”：這日光菩薩，一般人就以為是太陽，不是的。這是一尊菩薩的名字叫日光菩薩，並不是太陽就是日光菩薩。我們一般不明白佛法的人，以為日光菩薩就是太陽，月光菩薩就是太陰，不是的。 “為受持大悲心陀羅尼者”：日光菩薩為了幫助念《大悲咒》、受持《大悲咒》的人，“說大神咒而擁護之”：說一個大神咒，來擁護誦持《大悲咒》的人。念《大悲咒》已經就有一切護法來擁護，這個咒，又是擁護念《大悲咒》的。這個咒，叫《日光菩薩咒》。
日光月光二菩薩為擁護持誦大悲神咒者（宣化上人在《大悲心陀羅尼經淺釋》中開示：“誦持《大悲咒》的，一定要誦這兩個陀羅尼咒，功力才大。”）
1、日光菩薩為受持大悲心陀羅尼者，說大神咒而擁護之：
‘南無勃陀瞿那迷。南無達摩莫訶低。南無僧伽多夜泥。底哩部畢咄簷納摩。 ’
功德：誦此咒滅一切罪，亦能闢魔及除天災，若誦一遍，禮佛一拜，如是日別三時誦咒禮佛，未來之世所受身處，當得一一相貌端正可喜果報。
2、月光菩薩亦復為諸行人，說陀羅尼咒而擁護之：
‘深低帝屠蘇吒。阿若蜜帝烏都吒。深耆吒。波賴帝。耶彌若吒烏都吒。拘羅帝耆摩吒。沙婆訶。 ’
功德：誦此咒五遍，取五色線作咒索，痛處系，此咒乃是過去四十恒河沙諸佛所說，我今亦說，為諸行人作擁護故、除一切障難故、除一切病痛故、成就一切諸善法故、遠離一切諸怖畏故。
3、此陀羅尼能大利益三界眾生；一切患苦縈身者，以此陀羅尼治之，無有不差者。
4、此大神咒，咒乾枯樹，尚得生枝柯華果，何況有情有識眾生，身有病患治之不差者，必無是處。
