I like how we are going back to homes that are decorated one object at a time. A design that will last the test of time.
I agree! That’s what makes a home feel unique.
I feel fortunate in being very comfortable in doing what I like whether it’s a current trend or not. We hung velvet mustard colored drapes long before they were a trend and I loved them. After we had hardwood floors installed (what we liked not what everyone was doing) the dining room light was to be something more modern and in style. Nope. Decided I liked what we already had. Never had painted furniture or anything gray. Just didn’t really like for our house. Lots of homes with lots of styles are beautiful. We all need to be true to ourselves and make our homes for ourselves. Love your home as it looks very family oriented and welcoming.
I agree with you! It’s so fun to celebrate the variety of styles.
I never really follow trends but love greens, blues, rusts and browns. Love the idea of classic furniture having a moment again , especially liking that young people are appreciating it. Subscribed as I like your approach.
That’s a beautiful color palette! Happy to have you here.
Classic furniture has been coming back for awhile, only now the younger generation has discovered the appeal which makes acquiring it harder for those that have always appreciated it!
Exactly!
I think as we have gone through period of being more at home due to COVID that many have felt overwhelmed by the “stuff” in their homes. I am amazed at the number of TH-camrs that continually purge and still buy the latest items. I have always enjoyed making our home OURS. And not a magazine spread. Social media has had a big influence on keeping up with others and feeling of FOMO. I also think that as we age we are recalling our childhood homes, and that they were not necessarily picture perfect but hopefully we’re welcoming to the family and others. What goes around comes around, it just cycles again.
It's so important to make your home feel like you! I totally agree with the way this all influences trends!
I buy what makes my home feel homey. It could be a thrifted treasure, antique, shabby, farmhouse, or colorful. Most of my decor has traveled with me throughout my forty-seven years of marriage. I usually repaint and repurpose an item when I get the itch for something new. I enjoy changing the look with a coat of paint and wallpaper. I'm comfortable after being an empty nester for two years.
It's so fun to find new life for old pieces!
You have nailed how the older generation is sick of mass produced home decor. In the last several years I have started to fill my home with antiques and artisan pieces. This was a great, informative video. Thank you for sharing!
I love hearing that you’re embracing more unique pieces in your home!
Hi Sarah! Just appreciate your online space so much- you keep it real and applicable to the average person. Good luck with your 2025 goals!!! I’m setting a few myself (haven’t done so in a hot minute), but the most important is the “word” I’m concentrating on for 2025-and that’s “consistency “. I’m focusing on the application of that word in all aspects of my life, so wish me luck!
Good luck with your plan to set the intention of consistency. That is something I be always had great difficulty with. Will take vitamins 3 weeks then stop , same with lots of things. Have lived with depression for years so attribute lack of consistency to that. I find it easier if items on my daily to do lists, motivates me more.
You can do it! Consistency is such an amazing skill in so many areas of life.
So we are updating our whole home this year, one room at a time. No walls being added or taken down, more like a facelift. New flooring throughout the entire house, ceilings, two bathrooms down to the studs (I lied, we are adding a couple half walls) anyway, my question for you is this…..you mentioned a couple of times “if it fits the style of your home”, I feel confused by that. Would that only apply if you have say a Spanish style exterior or something like that??
@@debraburgess2764 totally get it--I am also improving my use of the daily to do lists. I used to think it took too much time to make a list...now I'm finding, the time is well spent!
@@GraceInMySpace absolutely-I've never tried this before but I'm taking it month by month!
Thank you for the MOTHER LODE of ideas!
You are so welcome!
Absolutely loved this video at last some stand by ideas & inspiration not to mention basic design that never dates thank you for saying the things I was thinking 👏👏
I’m so glad you found the video helpful!
Well done video. I usually don’t care for trend videos, but you put together a very well explained video.
I’m glad you liked it! I try to make trends feel approachable for everyone.
Great video…informative and enjoyed all the examples…also love the information on Tidbits planners…they are beautiful…always enjoy your videos.
Thank you so much!
I’ve never really been into trends so much I like vintage curated cozy feel with character. We are currently remodeling slowly and I am incorporating elements from 1920’s-30’s that I have loved forever. I found an old cast iron high back drain board sink and a kitchen hutch that predates the Hoosiers. I m going for a more unfitted kitchen and will be building a long table that will also be used as the island. I’m also adding wainscot and different panelings on the walls throughout to add much needed character in this boring build.
That’s an amazing and very unique approach to decorating! I love it.
Eclectic homes ❤
My home is a wonderful mix of things I love and that make me happy. That will always be my trend. I have modern and eclectic as well as wood and metal, marble and velvet. Everything goes and it looks fabulous. We are doing a new build and are doing our fireplace wall with a light stone and over grout. Quartz on our countertops and backsplash, no grout to clean will be nice.
I love that you're thinking about the details that make your home liveable!
My grandparents had dark Old World wood furniture, I loved it and have that look in my living room, but we just did a master bath and bedroom remodel, I went with light more modern furniture to have something different in our private space. The bedroom walls were dark with dark furniture that I got tired of, now it’s light and airy.
That sounds so beautiful!
LOVED this video. Great suggestions and ideas!
Thanks so much! I’m glad you found it helpful!
Brown is my favorite color.
I really don’t like over two patterns, three at the most, in a room at one time. I prefer more classic and vintage pieces of furniture with a pop of modern sometimes. Very interesting video. 😊
Sounds like you have beautiful style!
As usual, a really nice video! The change in volume from voice over to on screen was very distracting and something I thought was worth mentioning. But I very much enjoyed the content!
Excellent video! Thank you!!
You are welcome!
Im a maximalist and I don’t use loud colors. My home is cozy, comfortable and inviting
Love that!! I haven’t seen many spaces that are neutral maximalist. I’d love a tour 😁😉😉
My parents were thrifters, so am I. I probably spend a guilty amount of time thrifting 😂❤
It’s so fun to do!
Love this! Thank you! 😊
You’re welcome!
I’m in my sixties and yes trends lasted ten or so years , we started housekeeping in 1982 but we were poor so we bought used things so 1970s mobile home , orange shag carpet and green appliances 😅and auction furniture.
I bet you have some fun stories from that time! 😅
I really like this video. I have never followed trends. I have always used thrifted and vintage items. I love the warm colors, was never a white fan.
I bet you have some amazing pieces in your home!
I love the color trend. After years of seeing white on white ( which I love) I’m ready to see some color again. I love to fill my home with thrifted items. I have a 1920’s Tudor cottage
That's such a beautiful style! I bet you have some amazing pieces!
The browns will probably look wonderful in your home. 😊
Fantastic video Sarah.
Thanks so much!
the most influential aspect of interior design trends is they dictate what is available to consumers at the shops. Unless you have access to thrift/vintage items, the trending colours are what is available for each season.
The perfect reason to expand your options with second hand! 😁
Wow, so many great trends to consider
There are!
I really want to jump on the sauna trend. I was surprised to see it make this list.
I’ve heard amazing things from people who have one!
Not a fan of mixing patterns as it seems busy to my eyes however I'm definitely happy about classic shapes & fabrics coming back
I understand, everyone has their own style! I love that you’ve identified what will work for yours and what won’t!
I really enjoyed this video, I’ve always wanted my home to feel welcoming for not only family, but guests too! I don’t see the point in having a house where everyone is too scared to sit down or move just in case they wrinkle the settee 😂. My thoughts are in spaces where I welcome people in to my home, I want that space to feel peaceful and inoffensive lol, in private spaces like your bedroom, use them if you want to be a bit more daring with colour etc. I always remember as a girl going in to my aunties house and her lounge walls were bright pink and bright red, if you love that then that’s fine but I always felt stressed visiting her because I found the colour pallet so overwhelming 🤷♀️, as I grew got married and had a family of my own, my thoughts were always that, I didn’t want a home that people dreaded visiting, like I did my aunties house 🤷♀️, so I like my home comfy, cosy and homey but still interesting 😊 (sorry that was a really long comment 🤦🏼♀️😂)
I love that sentiment!
Here's a trend for everyone: Just so what you like and don't give in to pressure to update and waste money 😊
Just watched this on my tv - The videography is just luscious. Very well done!
BTW, I think you meant "immersive," not "emersive."
Yep I sure did 😆
@ - I feel like I spend a lot of time collecting my own spelling and grammar in comments and I never seem to get every last one. Not to mention how "helpful" voice dictation and spellcheck can be! 🤣
Love all of your knowledge! Are you an interior designer ?
Thank you so much! I’m not by trade. I’ve just worked in the industry for many years.
Informative.
I’m glad you found it helpful!
Any advice for a basic builder grade home? The home doesn't have a style to lean into? I have a pretty eclectic style (leans somewhat cottagey/traditional but I've got modern elements thrown in too). I'd love to add more character to my home but wonder if faux wood beams or wall moulding is just weird in a builder grade home. That said, I definitely put beadboard and a peg rail in my kiddos bathroom. Thanks for all of your thoughts in the video!
I think those are just the things to add in order to get the character you’re looking for. There are lots of options for wall moulding that add character while remaining modern too!
❤❤
Hi Sarah, Happy New Year! Silly question: what kind of candles are those I see in your background? The red ones that look like tapers, but they stand on their own?
I ❤ them and like that I don’t need a holder.
I think they are out of stock but this is the source! rstyle.me/+eCxcgW0o7JeqvrF2B1YICw
The i in sisal is a long sound, like I.
Interesting! In all of my years of working with interior designers in the space I’ve never heard anyone pronounce it that way.
@GraceInMySpace , google it. I did after I heard you pronounce it sissal, because I'm not always correct either.
The only way I’ve ever heard sisal pronounced is with a long I.
@@GraceInMySpace google it.
Love your home! May I ask what color green paint you used in your bedroom.
Thank you so much! It’s called Nightrain from Benjamin Moore
Trends let me know what will probably be available in the marketplace.
I won't waste time searching for what won't be in stores & online.❤❤
I gave a small brand new house. Wallpaper is a mainstay in Britain but if I have it in multiple rooms, would that be too gimmicky?
I think the more character you add to a new home the better better if it fits your personality!
Hi I want to paint a wall in my hallway a accent wall in Terra cotta do you have any recommendations of color I live in Arizona
I don’t know of any specific colors off the top of my head, but your best bet is to go and grab 4 to 5 samples and sample it directly in your hallway. Your lighting and the other colors in your home will directly impact how the color looks in your space. That’s the easiest way to find one you love!
Isbthe wallpaper in your video still available?
Yes! They are from Sandberg wallpaper.
People are putting cold plunges in their homes? You said it multiple times and I’ve never heard that before. Saunas, spas, yes and I’m surprised you didn’t mention steam showers. In what part of the world do you live?
America ☺️ cold plunges are definitely a big spike in home trends!
Where is the arched mirror in your bedroom from?!
Here you go! rstyle.me/+LI1tajZo5lLl67gGo8JtYg
Hopefully the white everything is over.
