The fact this finally gets posted. I was getting eager always seeing that 20 second clip of Pyrros snatching on another vid. Glad to see the full session is over 2HRs long. Now I can play these while I’m training.
Great footage! Thank you for the upload!!! Pyrros was at his best in that competition. According to his post match statements he was prepared for 185 snatch (lifted 190 in training) and at least 215 in cj (220 in training). Had he performed good in the snatch, we would still have WR lifts from that night...
There's 2 things I particularly love about this footage. 1. The training hall isn't full of people filming, like you see today. And the cameraman is staying away from the athletes, and zooming in on them. I love this. I can't imagine being an athlete and getting cameras shoved in my face while I'm training. 2. You can see they're actually training, and not doing things just for show - for instagram. This is a true training session, with the athletes focused on what they're doing and not anything else. Love it. I wish I could train in such an atmosphere.
It sure was a different era. Where were all these peoplr then ? Nowhere to be seen ! I took 6 weeks off on a volunteer basis to get this footage and into the training halls. It was captured with a 5kg video camera that had to be carried in its own dedicated bag. Glad you appreciate the footage.
It is literally unbelievable to be watching it , isn't it. Theres about 2 other guys with this footage who were recording with me, but Im guessing they could not be arsed to digitise it and post it.
I must say, of all the lifters he was the most perfect and impressive to watch. His technique flawless, his lifting so effortless. In command and control of the weight as if he were a hydraulic machine , exacting the perfect force and not an ounce wasted. Truly was impressive to watch.
Am I the only one who has never seen Idalberto Arranda do the actual oly lifts? Lol. I think ive only seen him squat humongous amounts of weight until this vid came out.
1:03:44 I see what happened to Kakhi. I think he tore his quad. So he got through the snatch, did 185kg, and clean and jerked 220kg on a bad leg during competition. He kept it a secret the whole time.
@@olympic_weightlift4u632 Well, I do recall that he had taken extensive photos for his publication. I also recall the link was up to purchase in 2000-2001, but then taken down.

No worries man. Had afew tech issues. I hope you appreciate the trouble someone went to to carry around a very bulky video camera in the Year 2000 to get this footage, the attempt to take footage without disturbing the athletes and then digitising and uploading it for you to watch free of charge.
@@emilio556 When I was looking for such footage I was buying it from IronMind. Very expensive. If people respect the footage it will continue to be posted. There are some wankers who rip it off and pass it off as their own, on their own social media without due credit - and this discourages me and others from posting more. It has to be respected that someone gave up their time and walked around with a bulky video camera a long time ago to get this footage !
thanks for this footage, no fancy stuff, mics, cameras, my god, im 29 years old, but god damn i love these videos.
And above all - no BS extended commentary of annoying meaningless drivel from a US based 'expert' on olympic lifting.
@@lubby447 hmm who could you possibly be referring to 😂

How Am I 10 months late for this gem of a video? This deserves an immense Thank You!

All the clangs and bangs of the weight are music to my ears.
This is gold right here
Thanks for uploading!
Thanks a lot! Legendary material.

So cool !! 😍😍
Wow. So Good
Kaki snatching a world record! 😲I guess straps made the difference for him!

Have you been sitting on this footage for 22 years? 😀

It certainly was a dramatic moment in the competition.
Even bigger snatch: 190!
Is the quality this bad i do not remember it like this
What are you asking ? Quality of what ? What is bad quality ?
Please put 1996 footage also
Randall Strossen at Iron Mind has it but will make you pay for it.
@@lubby447 no They have only 1994 or 95. They don’t have1996 Olympic Games. I don’t think so.

Who is the athlete on 1:07 ??? He's jerk may be the best I've ever seen.
Victor Mitrou, Greece
Disrespectful spectators should get booted and life bans from WL venues!
thanks for video
1:07:40 really sucks the 77kg Qatar(Bulgarian) lifters got pulled out last minute from the competition. Oh well.
1:46:00 that is so easy!!!
Who's the legend at 23:18? 😀
Pretty sure his name is Rube Howes or something similar, Aust masters legend
