The uncertainty principle litterally tells us it's impossible to know the exact location of particles, including the protons and electrons in an atom. The further you get from the approximate location the lower the chance. And the chance of for example a proton being outside of a nucleus is extremely small, but never zero. So given INFINITE time the atoms will go through every possible rearrangement. Entropy always increases, 2nd law of thermodynamics, but not over infinite time when you take quantum mechanics into account. For example, that atoms have an infinitesimally small chance to all randomly quantum tunnel into a single spot and fuse into a single huge atom. It's stupidly unlikely but infinite time is infinite and thus it would happen

If you set those particles to randomly organize and reorganize itself over an infinite amount of time, the patterns will repeat, maybe not in the same order but will repeat, but given enough time a pattern will emerge of those patterns.

      That's not what he meant. It's a very theoretical concept regarding how a closed system dissipates energy if a set of particles are introduced into the system without the influence of outside forces. So the whole point of keeping an apple in the system is to understand what changes might occur if let's say the system hits a point of equilibrium. Basically all the energy stored in the atoms the apple is made of, materialises to its basic components that it's only governed by the fundamental forces in quantum mechanics. Strong nuclear force is one thing that's hard to influence as it's highly suspended on a subatomic scale. And splitting this force is what's called a fission reaction used in the first atomic bombs and currently used in thermonuclear reactors. Fission however, is substantially a likelier scenario given a substantially large time scale. And if you've heard of the uncertainty principle and the Schrodinger's cat theory, subatomic particles tend to have a state of indifference when observed. It happens because observation affects its state we are trying to capture it in, hence an uncertainty develops where we can measure only certain variables like velocity and position at a given time but not simultaneously because the state keeps changing. It's extremely complicated tbh and I've had my fair share of physics lectures when I did my engineering, but I still don't completely understand it because the calculations require some PhD level maths.

      What is entropy?

    • @onree6229
      @onree6229 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      @@Sam-uq5gt What I've been told is that entropy is a property of a substance to have a bit of disorder. I typically understand entropy in terms of a gas. In gases, the particles that make up the gas are not in a uniform shape and do not travel ideally. Instead, depending on the volume and temperature of the gas, each and every particles moves at different speeds and travels in different directions. The property for this disorder is entropy. I don't know how Entropy would work with a liquid or solid, but it's a weird way of saying "you can't predict how each and every particle is going to interact with one another"

    • @Fuckyoubloodymoron
      @Fuckyoubloodymoron ปีที่แล้ว +17

      @@onree6229 I don't believe that is what entropy means.
      Without looking it up, I think I recall that physical systems move towards more order over time.
      So in your example, the energy would distribute more evenly as time passes until all particles have the same speed.

    • @wolffy91
      @wolffy91 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      @@Fuckyoubloodymoron Their definition was more or less sufficient. You're almost there. Physical systems do indeed move towards order over time -- but it is *because* of entropy, not because this is an entropic state.
      Entropy, in the case of thermodynamics, is the difficult-to-properly-account-for losses of energy, leading to a system's inability to convert energy into mechanical work. Entropy creates uncertainty in the system -- and so entropy is the chaos. But, because of these losses of energy over time, everything eventually stops moving -- and as it stops moving, the system reaches order.

    • @Jwine95
      @Jwine95 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      @@zarvix3555 It's a little more complex than that, he's proposing an infinite time later. Which his assement would be correct if there wasn't entropy, and falls in a weird quazi statistic interpretation. For example if the universe is truly infinite, and since there is only a finite amount of combinations of forces and particles that can exist (astronomically high but still finite) eventually you'll start to see duplicate combinations. There mighte be another *you* out there somewhere IF the universe is infinite. Same logic applies here, across an infinite time scale the atoms in that apple will take every combination that is possible.

      The universe is also ever growing, it gets less dense as a result. Combine these two and the universe is slowly gonna thinn out into basically nothingness and some uninteresting objects. The heat death.
