Edmond Moses, a 32-year-old taxi driver from New Market Street, Cummingsburg, who was set on fire by his ex-girlfriend six weeks ago, has succumbed to his injuries. Moses passed away this morning at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
Relatives disclosed that Moses, who had been hospitalized since the incident, underwent nine surgeries in an attempt to save his life. "He fought to live even after 9 surgeries, " a relative stated.
The tragic incident occurred on May 22 when Melissa David, the 26-year-old ex-girlfriend of Moses, admitted to setting him on fire after dousing him with thinners. The two had previously been in a relationship and had a child together. Despite their separation, they continued to live in the same building but in separate apartments.
On the day of the incident, Moses had raised an alarm after losing his wallet containing $18,000. David returned the wallet empty, and when Moses inquired about the missing money, an argument ensued. During the altercation, David set Moses on fire.
A relative recounted the harrowing event: "He was sitting there about to call the police after an argument and threats. Before he knew it, she splashed [thinners on him] and lit him up. "
Following the incident, David was charged with attempted murder and remanded to prison. With Moses' passing, the case is expected to see further legal developments as authorities continue their investigation. Join this channel to get access to perks:
