Finished installing it on my 2019 duke 125 (with your help) and another TH-camr. Thanks so much! The connectors were so simple. I don't know what I was afraid of, probably removing the tank as their is so many electrics around that area, oh well, done and dusted. No fault codes after 30 miles as of yet.
Well done. I've not heard of many fault codes with the Evo, as you found out, it's quite easy. Easily worst part is removing the tank - for a naked bike it's got a lot of fairing attached! Skäl David
@@MotoMirius my only regret is putting the tap connector on the outside of the frame, (don't ask why) I just had a lapse in judgement so it looks a bit weird, I'm gonna correct it tomorrow and just feed the green wire through the inside of the frame hopefully not having to remove the tank.
@@callumboothroyd3766 These things happen when you do things for the first time - too many new things to concentrate on at once. No big deal because as you say, you just change it.
@@MotoMirius what would you recommend? Should I remove the entire tank again or just try to route it under the tank to the tap? Really cannot be arsed to take the entire tank off again 🤣
Once again, thank you so much for doing this video! The way you explained everything down to how to remove each plug was an absolute lifesaver. Please keep the duke-related maintenance vids coming!!
Thank you for this video! I would have never gotten it done with out it. I may have gotten it but it would have taken lots longer. Finding all the connections was rough on me. I am color blind. The instructions dont say left side or right side. I found them all. I was able to run the main wiring harness under the rear as you wanted to. I just clipped the fuse and touched them all under. Way cleaner and out of the way.
Thanks for the video. Most annoying part was definitely trying to tuck the wires neatly away especially at the front left side of the bike. Looking forward to trying the bike out when the weather warms up.
I got this installed on my Duke 890 R and it took more work than I thought but also very plug and play. The biggest thing was locating the blue connector but once I started the bike up it immediately ran better it was crazy
I’m sorry, but you keep saying about a cat delete causing issues with mapping (gen2). The lambda sensor pre cat is in charge of fueling, so doing a cat delete won’t effect anything except making the engine rev more freely. All modern ecu can adapt fuel trims to roughly 20% decrease or increase.
In the higher rev range, yes this is true. But in the lower rev ranges used in urban areas where emissions controls are much tighter, this isn't the case. Cat removal allows greater air flow but the ECU caps the fuel increase.
Hello again David ive just bought a 22 plate duke 125 till i get my big boy license, it has a fuel slip on exhaust and a normal air filter black top box ,the air filter is green , is that a standard KTM filter? If i was to change the air filter box and install a de-cat pipe and keep the the bottom pre silencer and use the rapid bike easy module is it worth it and will the piggy back unit help with this , and do you know the settings to use for the piggy back unit ? Thank Christ for people like yourself doing these videos, its much appreciated mate. 😊
Thanks and you are very welcome. Stock air filter is green. I would suggest that you look at the FuelX Lite (NOT Pro) instead of the Easy - Dimsport appear to be replacing the Easy range with a new autotune box but haven't yet got round to the KTM, but PowerTRONIC are offering a similar unit so you don't have to worry about gettting settings wrong.
Hi watched your videos and think you are a very hands on fellow who have pride in what you do. However can you help me out with something? Can you disconnect your tilt sensor and see if your bike can still starts? Thanks
Thanks. It might take me a while to get to that one. Primary culprit for sensor related starting issues appears to be the side stand switch - guessing as to why you are asking - context always helps.
Indeed Dave. One wire at a time. No cutting cats open for me, too much stuff in there I don’t want to be breathing. You can buy replacement pipes easy enough. Skäl. David
It simply means that you let the bike run on idle, without touching it for ten minutes (15 if you have a gen 1 (pre 2017) bike. Some argue it should be upright in a stand, but that isn't clear. At ten minutes idleing, the ECU resets to the factory default settings. Personally, unless instructed to do by a professional or it is part of the throttle body replacement, I see no reason to do this as you will lose the localised settings that your ECU has made.
Hi! Kind of late, but I'm also installing a rapid bike evo on my ktm duke 390 (2018) and i had one question ( probably a dumb one): after you disconnect the cables from the stock ECU you just leave them there right? Meaning that you don't have to take them out or the stock ECU ( since the evo is a plug in ECU) correct? Great vid and thank you very much!
Hi. That's great video, explaining step by step. Cheers for that since I'am installing RapidBike Racing at the moment. I own KTM Duke 390 2017, You think stock ECU reset is needed after instalation? How long it should take? I've read about it, and someone written it should be on cold engine, without touching anything, with kick stand up, 15-16min and then switch off the bike. But You're saing about bit more than 10 min. I am confused now. How it should be done then? 10-11min or 15-16? Cheers
Thanks, always appreciated. Gen 1 pre 2017 15 mins, 2017 on 10 mins. There is some discussion if the bike should be upright or not - depends how literally you interpret the manual. I don't advise a reset in this example - your bike has spent it's time modifying its map to your local conditions and it's best attempt at your existing mods. If you reset it and the EVO will need to relearn everything about your location as well as the mods you have done. If you just plug the Racing unit in, it will just need to tweak the modified maps which will give you a much safer and quicker result.
@@MotoMirius Thank You for the advice. I will try to ride few hundred km first and will see how it will run. Wish You the best and will keep watching Your vid's. Cheers
Are there different models of piggyback for say the 125 duke & 390 thinking of getting one but if it won't go on the 390 from the 125 I'll just get the 390 model great vid thank you
Thanks for the detailed video. I’ve got the Rapid Bike evo exclusive and will be attempting the install on my 2019 duke 390 in the next couple of weeks. I have a couple of questions. I saw another install video on a 2018 Gen2 125 duke and he had an additional rapid bike “adapter” for his bike. I’m assuming there’s no adapter for a gen 2 2019 duke 390? I didn’t see you use one in your video. My second question is on the green tap connector that you used. Sorry if this seems like a dumb question 🙄, but it sounded like you did not need to cut or splice the green/yellow wire? It looked like you just needed to position the green/yellow wire over the tap and screw that gray head down and the connection is made? I understand how the right side or pink side is connected, I’ve just never used that type of tap and I want to make sure I do my install correctly. Thanks!
There are no adapters for the Evo. He might have a plug in for one of the add ons like a quickshifter, but I'm guessing. Yes, wire taps just screw onto the wire - I dislike them because long term they will cause issues but do to allow a plug and play fitment for the unit without making the connection properly. Good luck with the install! Skäl David
Moto Mirius I’ve changed out my turn signals for the LED type. I also replaced the ktm two prong relay with the ktm three prong relay so the signals wouldn’t blink at a rapid pace and my TFT screen would show the blinking turn signal. Do you think the install of that three prong relay for my LED lights will have an effect on my Rapid Bike install? I have kept the stock parts just in case.
hello, great video, I have a ktm duke 125 and I removed the catalyst. Except that now the gas emissions are too much, it is almost impossible to drive with that stink. Which ECU should I use to reduce gas emissions? Thanks
I have a video on how to choose an ECU, but if that is all you have done then I'd recommend either the RapidBike Easy or the BoosterPlug - assuming you have a 2017 on bike.
@@MotoMirius yes I have a 2018 duke. If I put a rapid bike easy, having removed the catalyst, would it be enough to bring back the normal and not lean carburation or would a rapid bike Evo be needed? Would anything change on pollution instead? In addition, if you do not put an ECU, having removed the catalyst, the engine in the worst case could even explode? sorry for too many questions, but i'm a little confused about the matter 😅
@@Antogre I prefer RapidBike becuase it is proper ECU and reads the sensors. To have a proper adjustment you need to upgrade to an Evo but the Easy is normally enough to bring your bike back to normal running. To do the job properly you need to put the bike on a dyno and have a custom map made - but this is a bit much for most people as it is quite expensive. From what you say your bike is running very rich (you can smell the unburnt fuel), not lean at all (which is the dangerous and expensive risk but also where the power is). Rich running will not cause your bike to explode - lean running will blow up your engine.
@@MotoMirius ok, but if i put the de-cat and take out the db killer, more air passes and the carburetion is leaner right? Because I only made these two changes, my question is if the rapid bike easy is enough to get the engine back to normal having only made these two changes and what's more, is it dangerous to ride it with these two changes or not? Thanks
@@Antogre My rule of thumb is that if you just want to make a small change to the bike you use a basic piggyback. If you want to start playing with the bike then you need to understand what you are doing and upgrade to proper replacement piggyback units. Personally I wouldn't use a basic piggyback of you make more than one adjustment. Which piggyback will depend on what you are trying to do - BUT if you want to avoid all risk of blowing up your engine then you either leave it stock or you put it on a dyno and get a personal map made. Anything other than this carries some risk. Personally I am very happy with the autotune on RapidBike Evo - but it does run a little rich when cold.
Hey David, first of all thank you for all the videos, it really helps out a bunch for self servicing moto amateurs like me. I have gen 1 390 Duke from 2015, but have the cat and muffler all in one piece, so I can't fit a slip on. I would need to run new pipes before the cat. Do you think it would be safe enough not to blow up my engine? Cheers
Thanks, there are slip ons available for you bike which replace the all in one silencer with a more conventional setup - for example Ixil and black widow. It's safer if you add a basic piggback.
@@MotoMirius Thanks for the response, so if i do things in Black Widow style it shouldn't be downright unsafe for the engine, taking into consideration what You said in the video that Gen 1 ECUs can adapt to small changes to an extent, but piggyback will make it safe to be sure, right?
Yes. Boosterplug is the most basic of all the piggybacks and has almost no interaction with the bikes ECU. It's only real function is to smooth out low revs. If you want an overview of piggybacks for this bike then I suggest this video th-cam.com/video/gFFVAkRvAoA/w-d-xo.html Skäl David
@@MotoMirius Oh, okay thanks. I have one more question, if I change the middle eksost pipe in my Duke 125.. should i buy this.. or is it okay. People are telling me that i can destroy my bike if i change. Is it true

And can i take the cat off ?? at same time and also change end can ?? Just send me a list so i can google all of it here please Much obliged mate cheers karl 👍
Hi Karl. If you don’t want to mess about with maps then I’d recommend RapidBike. Check out the video for decat. If you decat you might be happy with stock end can. Depends on what you are looking to achieve. Any decat pipe works. Next video up from me is debaffle if stock end can. Personally I find decat with no baffle too loud. Skäl. David
Moto Mirius is it only safe to de- cat David when a box up grade is fitted ? Top end power i am looking for so i guess the 50 tooth sprocket is a good start ?
I wouldn't risk a decat without additional fuelling. If you were only decatting a simple device would do, but if you want power, you might as well go straight to a full box. Depends what you mean by top end power? A 50 tooth sprocket works mostly at the lower revs, if you want to increase speed you'd need a smaller rear sprocket. The best place to start is with the front sprocket - one tooth either way doesn't require a new chain.
Moto Mirius Thanks David , i will stay in touch if i may as getting info here is rather vague and the thai's are out there depth with anything like this Always good to speak with someone back in uk who knows there stuff and i can understand them cheers mate 👍👍
Sure, no problem. Getting a clearer idea of what you want will give the most guidance. I'm more in the stunt camp of power because most of my riding on the Duke is low speed, heavy car traffic, but most people wanting power are mostly interested in going fast - which puts them more into the RC30 camp👍
Great video congratulations! I'm looking for a KTM duke end of 2018 model stock at the moment with 20.000km! Is that a generation 1 or 2 bike? Would be worth it investment in one of this rapid bike module? Can you expect lower consumption results also? Thanks 🙏👍
Gen 2 is from 2017 to 2021/2022 maybe 2023. My answer is it depends on what you want from it - I can't answer that for you. Typically a piggyback won't improve your fuel consumption because it corrects the too lean running that is necessary to meet emissions standards.
Just bought the bike and I find it a bit clunky at low speeds, just looking at booster plug to smoother the bike when driving at low revs, avoiding more the use of the clutch looking for a better feeling when driving in town... Do you think it's a good investment? Thanks once again ❤😅 looking for a cheaper option for now in the market so solve this "problem"
Hey boss great vid!!! I bought A 2015 RC 390 and the guy had done KNN filter+box upgrade and he had the rapid bike Evo with two maps on it does that improve the torque or horsepower? And can I also add a power commander to it?
You can only have one piggyback, so you either stick with the Evo or go with the PC. Improvements to torque or horsepower will depend on the maps that are loaded not so much on which piggyback you are using - although they can offer different options. If you want to know more about tuning the RC then I'd recommend using the RC390 forum as there is lots on there. Skäl David
Hi I have just installed this on my duke 125 . I don’t like the wire you have to live tap . If this came undone would you know by a warning or could this do any damage if it came off. Also wot does that wire do😂. Many thanks Chris
I don't like the live tap either, but if you've installed it correctly, and it's hard to get wrong, it won't be coming off. Almost certainly you'd get a check engine light if it did. From memory the wire goes to the TPS so probably to the pressure sensor.

Hello all, shortly after I installed the Rapidbike Evo Exclusive on my 2017 Duke 390, I got an engine warning light. Code reader says it is P2101 - Powertrain - Throttle Actuator Control Motor Circuit Range/Performance. The bike seems to run fine though. Thoughts, advice? Thanks. I have contacted the team at Rapidbike, but being the long weekend, they may not be there.
When you plug in an autotune unit, you may get an engine light at first which will normally go away once you start riding the bike and the unit adapts. A lot depends on how far the stock ECU has adapted from the stock settings. I recently had an engine light after changing the battery and the ECU's reset, but it went away once I started riding - some people find that just a shortr run is enough, sometimes it can take say 100 miles. So long as you've correctly connected all the cables, it shouldn't be an issue - but just like the initial run in when the bike was new, ride the bike gently until it goes off.
I chose RapidBike because it is not based on loaded maps. Like the OEM ECU, it creates an optimal map by using the bike sensors - but unlike the OEM ECU it is not restricted by emissions legislation. If you run maps and add something which changes the configuration, you need to alter the maps, with this, it alters itself.
Hi. I am on a big trouble having a Kawasaki Z 250 SL, which is a mono too like your bike, and I would like install the Rapid bike EVO. But here in Italy my model is really rare, and the mechanics don’t know much about what would be better for my bike!!! Hello thanks so much for your videos I have a K&N air filter decat pipe and race can (Chinese) I’ve just ordered a rapid bike easy after watching your video what should I put the left dial to and the right one (fuel) to? Thanks again :))
Thanks. I don't have an Easy, so I've not needed to. Start with the dials on the recommended settings - you will have to experiment to get the settings right - this is one reason I use an Evo - it makes the adjustments itself.
@@Lucas-vu2cr hi thanks I contacted easy bike in Italy I told them I had a k&n air filter arrow de cat and a race can no baffles and the said setting Number 5 and fuel number 2 and it’s so smooth now what a difference. :) thanks again to you and Dave, Ps. Hello David. Thx you for your work and your great videos . i got a question about i got duke 390 2020 and i remove the muffler and now the bikes files like its lose power, i'm on a budget i was looking for the rapid bike easy you think this will help? and i didn't know about the 15m reset should i try it? the bike is stock (except the muffler removal) and i got 4.5k km
It depends a lot on what you mean by 'remove the muffler' - that could describe a lot of different things on this bike. Typically, if you've made a significant change in the exhaust which is beyond removing the baffle or replacing the stock slip on with a quality non super loud item like the Akrapovic, then yes, you can experience a loss of power because the bike will run even leaner than it normally does, so a piggyback like the Easy will help overcome this. The ten minute reset (15 only applies to pre 2017 bikes and RC) won't really change anything. All it does is put the ECU back to stock settings removing any learning it did, but all that does is change the starting point for the new learning - the end point remains the same and if the end point is beyond where the stock map is allowed to reach it doesn't change anything.
@@MotoMirius hey thx you for the great respon.! i drill out the silencer from the stock exhaust ( i follow the other video u made ) so your advice is ? what sould i do?
@@panagiotissimatos if you have removed the baffle and nothing else, then you don't need to do anything. You shouldn't get any power loss from just this. But, depending on where you are it could happen, so if it concerns you then add a basic piggyback
Bear in mind that mods may invalidate your warranty. If the dealer does them then they could make themselves liable - so many dealers don't want to do them.
I've only once had a code and that was recently after I changed the battery which likely reset the bike ECU at which point I had a straight through exhaust with modded airbox, so quite far from stock. But it went away after a couple of short rides, and no issues since.
Non sono sicuro che si traduca bene. Nulla rimuove il limite di velocità nella sesta marcia. Le unità possono aumentare il limite di giri in ogni marcia.
Oh okay I’ve got the 125 duke anyway. No upgrades as of yet and will probably be only getting small upgrades if I do... but do you think the Evo will improve the bike when on tick over as it isn’t the most steady being a single cylinder? My duke is 8 months old. Cheers 🤙🏻
They do boxes for the 125s too. Singles aren't steady at tick over - simple physics. You can smooth them over with bigger counterweights but you lose the acceleration so few manufacturers do - certainly not KTM for whom Ready To Race means something. You can mask it by increasing the amount of fuel, but the solution is to learn to appreciate the nature of a single and not try and ride it at low revs.
Moto Mirius oh yeah I agree! my duke does feel like it prefers to be ridden hard instead of being at low revs! I’m just curious that if I was to get a box for the bike that it may help it at all in terms of smoothness above anything else? I do love my little 125 duke either way 🤙🏻
@@THEUNKNOWNSTUMP It will improve low running smoothness. It's ironic that people will pay extra to buy Harlys over metric cruisers to achieve that low rev lumpy running. With singles it's a common question especially amongst newer riders to want to get rid of it. My advice remains the same whenever I'm asked - it's supposed to be like that, learn to appreciate the nature of the bike and develop your riding to match, don't try and change the bike. When I'm riding the only time the bike drops below 4,000 revs is when I'm waiting at junctions.
Hi.... i am really interested in making this upgrade.... so i am wondering are you still using it? Any cons? Any issues with cold weather? My ktm rc390 2019 has issues on cold start it always starts at second time and never at first as us to in the summer... of course this only when its overnight cold... quite interested on your experience... my bike only has a slip on gpr... however i have the decat ready to place on the bike once i have something to avoid running lean....
Hi, it works well, I've no issues with it. It does run a little rich I think, but that is what I would expect from an autotune - it would always sit on the safe side of the optimal tune. It's cold here at the moment but we are locked down so I'm not riding, however no real issues with starting in the cold. Sometimes it takes more than one go, just important to remember not to touch the throttle. Skäl David

Hi Bryan. This is a question I’ve considered and the answer is that I’m not sure. If someone doesn’t follow the video properly then it is likely cause considerable damage to the engine. But I’m not going to rule it out so maybe. Thanks for the suggestion as it’s good to know what people want to see. Skäl. David
Hi David! I installed a RB Evo on my 2018 390 Duke and used the suggested settings for the two adjusters (O2 sensor and Fueling I assume) but got an error message after about 20km of riding... What numbers did you set those two adjusters to? Regards!
No buddy . If I supply more air the ECU natural compensate ..U wasting money if I don't modify the whole thing!! or buy a bigger Cc bike. Make sense ☺️.
The ECU can only supply extra fuel up to the point that the emissions restriction kicks in. Welcome to the modern world. I have bigger cc bikes. Modifying bikes never makes money sense.
No one is sure - it's a question if the software is compatible and given its a CANBUS system it's not just a matter of connecting wires, so I would say it's unlikely.
Which piggyback are you looking for? Mine is the Dimsport RapdBike Evo Exclusive - unless you are also in the UK there isn't much point in me giving you a link. Skäl David
Will this work even at high elevation I live between7 thousand and 8 thousand feet would like to do a complete exhaust modification and air box lid from coober what kind of horsepower gains canister see?
Power is a very different conversation, and it's a complicated one. Given the added complexity of your altitude, chances are you'll need a custom map. I'm not going to suggest what sort of power you will gain, but if you improve the air flow through with those changes you are likely also to need to increase the fuel flow. HP is a very poor indicator of the changes to the bikes performance, and the setup you will should be driven by what areas of the bike you want to improve given how you will be running it - an HP monster which is setup for high speed across the desert will have a very different setup to a canyon carver. Skäl David
I have one more question, if I have only change the middle eksost pipe on my Duke 125 2018.. should i buy this.. or is it okay without. People are telling me that i can destroy my bike if i dont buy a boosterplug. Is it true
If you have only changed the mid pipe you might be OK without any changes. Yes, you could fit a boosterplug, it would give a margin of safety. But the question only you can answer is whether this is the only change you will make. If you make other changes then it may not make sense to have to then also change from boosterplug to something else. I would in any case recommend RapidBike Easy over Boosterplug.
What do you recommend I buy in terms of piggy back controls? I have a rc390 2015 with a full exhaust, k&n air filter and air box modifications. Would a power commander 5 be enough with a good map or would it be completely necessary to have the bike on the dyno? I only use it on the track but am a novice rider so I'm not looking at breaking any records ahaha. Thanks
I would probably go with the Power Commander. I recommend that you go to the rc390 forum and do some reading up there and see which is the best map. Don’t be afraid to ask there for advice as the RC is a bit different to the Duke in the tuning department. Skäl. David
My duke 390 2017 came with a power commander 5 but has horrible closed loop lean stutter.. higher rpms are great though. Would you happen to know if I could add something like an easy in conjunction with the power commander and just increase the closed loop fuel mix with the easy then let the pc 5 take over at higher rpm's/open loop?!
You need a proper map for the PC - get a dyno session with a good operator and this should go away. If that is not feasible, you could remove the PC and replace with a FuelX Lite (not Pro). I suspect (or I would hope it does) the PC uses the lambda sensor which you are going to need anyway.
@@MotoMirius ahh I see thanks for that Yeah! I got this bike in need of a little tlc but it came with the power commander and no information about what had been stored on it. I fixed the bike all up while waiting on completing mod 2 fitting a decat slip on and airbox lid. yesterday was my first go on it and the power high up was great but low down it stalled a few times and pops and jitters. I've used power commander 5 on a raptor 700 with auto tune in the past so wasn't sure if it went in the lambda as on that system I had to weild my own bung in the header. I think as you say a dyno session will have to be booked and even though the PC can't access the low rpm fuel maps playing with ignition in the closed loop area can smooth it all out. Thanks

Some say it can't, some say it has to be on the sidestand. It depends how you read the manual. I say that if it needs the sidestand down, then there would be a special mention of that in the manual - because once the bike is on a main stand many mechanics will put the sidestand up. There is no direct mention of it needing to be on the side stand so I say it doesn't need to be. Skäl David

Stock ECU is not unplugged. A piggyback is connected to the stock ECU. Having fitted the RB Evo you can buy a dongle that replaces the RB Evo so the bike just runs on the stock ECU. So you can change between them if say you need to do emissions tests or take the bike to a dealer for a software update.
@@mohdaznanhamzah And that is why you buy the dongle. Unplug RB ECU from harness, plug in dongle now you have stock bike. When you get it back from dealer, unplug dongle, plug RB ECU back in and you are good to go
Is it recommended to install a/this ecu when I debaffle my stock exhaust? I am also planning to buy a new airfilter, I am aware that I will need an Ecu when I installed that. Could you tell me if I am wrong or not? Thanks in advance.
You don’t typically need an ECU with a debaffle but yes recommended if you intend to do more but an air filter will not make much power difference on a gen 2 Duke so unlikely to need an ECU.
Hi I’ve got a 2017 pc5 with auto tuner I’ve worked with power commander for the basic mapping. I keep getting a O2 sensor error code. So I put it on a dyno and had it tuned perfect All my mapping is perfect air and fuel. The bike rides great !!!!! Power commander say that there’s noting wrong as does the shop I took it to. I’ve also replaced both O2 sensor the 1 for the bike and the 1 for the auto tuner The auto tuner is on and running good But the fault code keeps coming back. Do you have any suggestions as to what Could be going on?? Thank u
I'm assuming you've cleared the code and these are new codes. Unplug the PC and see if the code comes back on the stock ECU mapping. If it clears then the fault is either the PC or the map. Select the stock map on the PC and see if the error returns - if it doesn't then the PC is ok and the issue is in your new map.
Coober is map based rather than self learning. Unlike the other map based products like PowerTRONIC and Power Commander it is locked down and you cannot update the maps without sending it back to Coober. Coober only have a fixed set of maps but Coober do take over the KTM warranty should their ECU cause damage to the engine. Aside from that, they do much the same thing but in a different way. RB have additional options which Coober don’t which are more race oriented such as quickshifter. Skäl. David
im looking to change my rc 200 front sprocket from 14t to 15t ,i have one but too big to fit in the place,so any idea which motorcycle sprocket would fit without any changes cus it has 520 pitch
Normally people are ok with increasing one tooth on the front. But you do need one which will fit the RC, you can’t just buy any 520 sprocket. A simple internet search should give you a supplier but make sure it is listed as fitting your year of RC200 as otherwise it may not fit. Good luck. Skäl. David
Not if its stock. There are some who think that they have bought a Honda and complain of the engine being jerky, and buy a piggyback to smooth the engine. But I don't think it's necessary and if KTM thought it necessary they would have reprogrammed the ECU - they designed a fast accelerating small single engine that is designed to be ridden hard, not to be toddled along at low revs.
I don't have a gen 1 so I can't advise where the wire is on that model, but from memory the tap is on the air temp sensor so you should be able to spot the sensor on the gen 1 airbox.
@@MotoMirius i believe i tapped into the right one as my module didnt come with instructions the bike died a few times after install one of the time required me top bump it but since i have had no problems.
Only cat delete? - that is the biggest single change you can make. You might get away without a piggyback, not sure I'd risk it - engines are very expensive to rebuild. Skäl David

Hi there just watched your video.ive gone for the rapid bike easy.all plugged in and my engine light is on.its got a decat exhaust on and a k&n airfilter on.ive set the ratio to 5 -2 on the dials.any help I would appreciate it
The issue with the Easy is that you are getting cheaper because it doesn't autotune - so you have to manually set the trimmers - if they are not set correctly then the light comes on. From memory -2 is fuel ratio so you are adding less fuel than stock?
I've not heard of any error messages with the Evo - because it is a full ECU, messages are common on the Easy because you have to make the adjustments manually. My experience is that the EVO runs a little rich - which is exactly what I would expect from an auto tune unit because it's safer to program them to run rich than lean. Skäl David
Hello there I have ktm duke 390 2022 I just installed rapid bike evo exclusive. Does yours ride feel smooth sometime and sometime feels vibrate , been 2days now been riding it . Let me know as I wanna know if am only one experiencing this oh by the way my bike fully stock . Thank
It can happen while the maps adjust on first install. It should go away once the maps adjust, I recommend riding gently in this period - I had it recently after a battery change reset the ECU's.
Thanks motomiris for getting back and your right about ride it gently as I try that since today all ride nice and I can blast it aswell ride alot smoother , vibration still there but not as bad. Thanks again 😊
@@MotoMirius It is the RB Easy... I know you fitted the Evo. There are two settings: 1 for the 02 censor type and 2 for the fuel. RB did a preset on the module before sending it to me. I called them and they are as surprised as I am. They have to contact Italy to try and get to the bottom of this but a possible faulty module is not ruled out.... according to RB the settings will not be the cause of the engine light coming on. Regards!
Nah. Heard this before. First do an idle reset - your ECU may have already made a compensation that the Easy is now overdoing. 10 plus minutes on idle. I understand it can take a couple of good rides for the light to go out. Then set I think fuel to 2 and try again.
The idle reset sets the ECU back to the base map. It may or may not turn off the light straight away. Disconnect the RBE of course. Once the light is off reconnect the RBE. If the light comes on adjust the settings on the RBE and continue to ride. This is a well known setup issue but once the light goes off all should be well.
Common going into first from neutral. Check clutch adjustment. If the clutch hasn’t released or is sticking the engine will be applying force as you change gear. But there are other possible causes. Impossible to be sure over the internet. Skäl. David
Hello buddy… I have a gen 2 duke 125 2020, I am going to cat delete & change to a K&N air filter & a slip on eventually, I’m going to need at rapid evo?
You should be considering at least a basic piggyback. My rule of thumb is that one change is probably OK, once you do more than that, the risks increase.
@@nxteplxyz5510 It doesn't matter what the oil level is cold. You measure it with it with the engine at operating temperature and not running. It should be between the lines - in practice this is not exact because the bike will never be dead upright on exactly flat ground.
Hello.. What brand of aftermarket clutch’s need brake lever would you recommend I obviosuly need to re connect my clutch sensor or totally remove this either way? Thanks
Not so easy to find no. I think you can buy the FuelX for just fuel control. You have to be a little careful too because year is not always the same as the build - KTM seem to sell older models into some countries and of course the current 390 was launched in India a year before the rest of the world. They don't sell the 200 here so I don't have much information on it.
Hi, I've got a rc125 2019 my gears start to getting little bit stiff two weeks ago and I lost +/- 10 miles of speed. Do you know what it could be? I think that it might be a clutch plates or clutch cable
Hi, a 2019 bike should not have clutch issues but the cable might need adjusting. I'm assuming you mean that the gear lever is still, not that the clutch lever is stiff. You can troubleshoot by seeing what happens with the bike stationary with the engine off. Pull the clutch lever in and with your other hand change gear - sometimes you also need to spin the rear wheel. Put the bike in gear and try to roll it with the clutch lever in and out. If you can push it in gear then the clutch releases and should not make the gear change stiff. Losing speed is likely either a slipping clutch or an engine issue. You can tell a slipping clutch because the engine will rev quickly at max torque without an increase in speed. It's almost impossible to diagnose this sort of issue remotely because there will always be a key fact which you aren't aware of or don't mention. Good luck.
Hi, arrow can with baffle in and cat should be fine - I like the Akrapovic unit because it was developed on the Akra dyno especially for this bike and working directly with KTM. But unless ultimate power is your goal, there is no reason not to go with Arrow - and Arrow have a long history of dirt bike/ thumper exhausts so I would be happy with that choice on my bike.
I contacted rapidbike asking about evo tuner and they gave me a very vague answer about using their evo tuner for 202 duke 390 open airbox, de-cat and better muffler: "My tuning bike is for better and faster precision tuning, we can not guarantee a good results tuning with narrow band stock oem sensor when tbe air box is removed. Yaman Turan" Im really confused. Seems like this tuner will not work?
It depends what you told them. Their answer suggests they think you have removed the airbox - open airbox is not the same as a filtered airbox lid modification - companies like this are not necessarily experts in every modification on every bike, so they may not be familiar with every trending performance modification. My Tuning Bike is an add on module they sell for this tuning box, and it is reasonable that there is a point at which the basic module needs assistance once the modifications get too extreme. That's a lot of money to be spending on a product when the support team seems uninterested in even explaining what they sell. It's really disappointing. Perhaps their usa support doesn't even understand the english language? That seems more likely. I appreciate your reply. Can you answer my questions?
@@jamesmelter5914 I appreciate what you are saying because they did not answer your questions as well as I think they could have done. RapidBike are an Italian company so language can be an issue. They are recommending my tuning bike instead of just the Evo in response to the question you asked because, and I think it is likely that they are right, that the Evo doesn't have the capability on its own to do what you are asking for - decat, open silencer (one interpretation of your question) and open airbox (no air filter). That is a lot of airflow through the engine and one that is a race day type configuration, hence why they are pointing you at a more race oriented solution. My tuning bike seems to add more fuel than the standard EVO map and they are saying that this would apply for you (you may need a bigger injector too). I haven't yet taken this step but I'm close to doing so, but I'm not quite clear how the EVO and my tuning bike interact. YouTune takes it one step further in giving you some manual control as well as adding some toys such as launch control (assuming this works on the EVO as well as Racing). Hope that helps a little with what I see happening here - I suspect a little miscommunication may have happened on both sides.
@@MotoMirius I think you are both misunderstanding me. I want to de-cat, add a vented airbox cover (still have air filter) and a secondary muffler either with db killer removed or a slip on. What tuning device can I use to resume proper air and fuel adjustments for that?
@@jamesmelter5914 We aren't misunderstanding you, we are answering the question you asked. You said you had a new bike. Do you want to keep the warranty? If the answer is yes, buy Coober, it's the only choice. If the answer is no, watch my video on choosing a piggyback to give you some context.
Lol. No problem. This seems quite common. My understanding is that Dimsport start the auto tune with the engine running rich to avoid engine damage from running too lean. You can probably smell it, I could on mine, and then the map works it back leaner. That rich running seems to trip the engine light for some people. Those who’ve reported it say that they might get it a couple of times then it goes away as the tune gets more accurate. Skäl. David
It’s actually ten minutes on the gen 2 bikes or 15 on the gen 1. I can’t see the idle reset changing the RapidBike unit. Auto tune means just that. No manual intervention. You’d need the Racing module to make manual adjustments.
It's not unusual and one reason I use autotune. There is a good dyno I can use less than an hour away, but to do a proper job you need to choose a piggyback they have the software an experience with to retune.
@@markmitchell8448 That depends. The only advantage of the Evo is that you can put it on a different bike and get it reprogrammed, But I suspect by the time you've bought a new harness as well there isn't much in it.
Hey i have a 2019 duke 125 with a cat delete and a slip on. I have been thinking about getting the rapid bike easy but I don't know if it will be enough to fix it running lean. On the other hand, I don't have 350/450 euros to spend on a Piggyback. Do you think the RB easy will do the trick? If not do you have any other suggestions?
Engine rebuilds cost more than piggybacks and if you want to modify your bike for more power or sound then you do so aware of the risks. Unfortunately the way to accurately answer your question is to fit the Easy then spend 400 Euro on dyno time. I wouldn't recommend a cat delete without running anything if your slip on is louder than stock, and even then I'd still recommend something. Chances are that if you live somewhere close to sea level without it being overly hot then the Easy will be OK, but there are no guarantees. If you plan on doing more to the bike then you'd be better off just saving up and getting a proper piggyback (and running it stock until you do).

Thanks Dave good explaining of what could be very confusing processfor new home machanic

Great explanation, simple enough just take ur time. Hope it was worth while, did u cut the cat open & re weld or bought a straight through?
Indeed Dave. One wire at a time. No cutting cats open for me, too much stuff in there I don’t want to be breathing. You can buy replacement pipes easy enough. Skäl. David
Yo!
I found your video very helpful, thanks!
Whats that tape you used on the cable splice?
Glad it helped. It's a self amalgamating electrical tape used for wrapping wiring.
Hi David, I didn't quite understand the 10min rule, could you explain it again?
Yes, ECU remains in place and the bike won't work if you fiddle with it. And thanks, well done with the install.
Cheers
Good video! I am assuming the EVO will work fine with the 2021 Duke 125 as well?
Thanks. I have no reason to think that it won’t. You may need to wait till they confirm it does as they may need to tweak for the Euro5.
Are there different models of piggyback for say the 125 duke & 390 thinking of getting one but if it won't go on the 390 from the 125 I'll just get the 390 model great vid thank you
Thanks Mark. The 125 has a different ECU so yes, a proper piggyback will be different. The most basic such as boosterplug might be the same.
@@Antogre My rule of thumb is that if you just want to make a small change to the bike you use a basic piggyback. @@MotoMirius Thanks for the response, so if i do things in Black Widow style it shouldn't be downright unsafe for the engine, taking into consideration what You said in the video that Gen 1 ECUs can adapt to small changes to an extent, but piggyback will make it safe to be sure, right?

Sure, no problem. Getting a clearer idea of what you want will give the most guidance. Gen 2 is from 2017 to 2021/2022 maybe 2023. My answer is it depends on what you want from it - I can't answer that for you. Typically a piggyback won't improve your fuel consumption because it corrects the too lean running that is necessary to meet emissions standards.

You can only have one piggyback, so you either stick with the Evo or go with the PC. Improvements to torque or horsepower will depend on the maps that are loaded not so much on which piggyback you are using - although they can offer different options.

I have a 2023 rc390 that I am installing the readybike evo on but I can not find the white 12v supply connectors not sure where it is I looked next to the 6 pin connector and still can’t find it any thoughts?
Can you just disconnect the o2sensor so that the ecu uses the open loop map which is richer?
You can. But the O2 sensor is there for a reason so you do so at your own risk. As I always say - piggybacks are cheaper than engine rebuilds
Great video!! Simplex and nice info

1st generation and 2nd generation .from when to which year..
First gen up to 2016, gen 2 2017-2020, BS6 2020 onwards. Gen 2 was the change to the body style seen in this video
Thank you
Hey, my question is did you play a map on it there or just connected it and if so, what kind of map do you have on it?
I chose RapidBike because it is not based on loaded maps. Like the OEM ECU, it creates an optimal map by using the bike sensors - but unlike the OEM ECU it is not restricted by emissions legislation. If you run maps and add something which changes the configuration, you need to alter the maps, with this, it alters itself.

Did you ever have any fail codes? Or did it run smoothly without it as long as du have had it on?
I've only once had a code and that was recently after I changed the battery which likely reset the bike ECU at which point I had a straight through exhaust with modded airbox, so quite far from stock. But it went away after a couple of short rides, and no issues since.

Thanks. I bought it from someone who never got round to fitting it. Skäl David

Skäl. David

Thanks

For the gen 1 ecu reset some say it cant be on the sidestand
Some say it can't, some say it has to be on the sidestand. It depends how you read the manual. I say that if it needs the sidestand down, then there would be a special mention of that in the manual - because once the bike is on a main stand many mechanics will put the sidestand up. There is no direct mention of it needing to be on the side stand so I say it doesn't need to be. Skäl David

Hi David, after changed to RB Evo ECU. Can we use the same harness to plug in the stock ECU? I am referring to D390 V2.
Stock ECU is not unplugged. A piggyback is connected to the stock ECU. Having fitted the RB Evo you can buy a dongle that replaces the RB Evo so the bike just runs on the stock ECU.

Is there any difference between the coober ecu and this one, function wise?
Coober is map based rather than self learning. Unlike the other map based products like PowerTRONIC and Power Commander it is locked down and you cannot update the maps without sending it back to Coober. Coober only have a fixed set of maps but Coober do take over the KTM warranty should their ECU cause damage to the engine. Aside from that, they do much the same thing but in a different way. RB have additional options which Coober don’t which are more race oriented such as quickshifter. Skäl. David

Hello I'm looking to get a 2020 ktm 125 duke and I was wondering will I need a piggy back Ecu thank you
Not if its stock.

The issue with the Easy is that you are getting cheaper because it doesn't autotune - so you have to manually set the trimmers - if they are not set correctly then the light comes on. From memory -2 is fuel ratio so you are adding less fuel than stock?
How did the rapid bike evo work did you ever get any error messages
I've not heard of any error messages with the Evo - because it is a full ECU, messages are common on the Easy because you have to make the adjustments manually. It can happen while the maps adjust on first install. It should go away once the maps adjust, I recommend riding gently in this period - I had it recently after a battery change reset the ECU's.
Vibration is normal with a single, typically it will happen when the revs are too low for the gear you are in.

@@MotoMirius Thanks! So I just start the bike and let it idle for 10+ minutes and it should switch the light off... if I understand correctly David?
The idle reset sets the ECU back to the base map. It may or may not turn off the light straight away. Disconnect the RBE of course. Once the light is off reconnect the RBE. If the light comes on adjust the settings on the RBE and continue to ride. This is a well known setup issue but once the light goes off all should be well.

Good luck.
Hi would I be ok with an arrow gp slip on on my 125 duke keeping the cat without a piggyback unit or would you recommend the akrapovic slip on
Hi, arrow can with baffle in and cat should be fine - I like the Akrapovic unit because it was developed on the Akra dyno especially for this bike and working directly with KTM. But unless ultimate power is your goal, there is no reason not to go with Arrow - and Arrow have a long history of dirt bike/ thumper exhausts so I would be happy with that choice on my bike.
Thank you appreciate your advice, love your vidz modifications and information keep up the good work 👍
I contacted rapidbike asking about evo tuner and they gave me a very vague answer about using their evo tuner for 202 duke 390 open airbox, de-cat and better muffler: "My tuning bike is for better and faster precision tuning, we can not guarantee a good results tuning with narrow band stock oem sensor when tbe air box is removed.
Yaman Turan"
Im really confused.
"Good afternoon!
From a video by Moto Miris on TH-cam I believe I need the evo tuner to de-cat my 2020 ktm duke 390, open up the airbox and open up the secondary muffler a bit and ensure the fuel and air is adjusted.
I see the price is $525 for the device. Is that all I need? I don't understand what the options for "Add my tuning bike module" and "Add you tune (discount if purchased together" options are for. I understand the quickshifter add on I think. I just dont know why I need to consider the other stuff.
What are these other options for and do I need them to just de-cat, open airbox and get louder muffler and ensure good air and fuel adjustments?
Thanks,
James

Seems like a pretty uninformed and very vague answer to a potential buyer. They didn't explain the options to purchase it on their website.
Hey so I installed and the bike is running great. Rode for about 3 days then check engine came on. Any suggestions?
Also excuse my name haha
Lol. Skäl. David
Moto Mirius gotcha. I did the 15 min idle and it shut off the engine light. Does that idle reset the stock ECU or the rapidbike ECU
Moto Mirius also do I meed to do anything with the autotune after installing via software, or does it do that itself?
It’s actually ten minutes on the gen 2 bikes or 15 on the gen 1. I can’t see the idle reset changing the RapidBike unit. Auto tune means just that. No manual intervention. You’d need the Racing module to make manual adjustments.
Where I live no one around here does dyno or tunes
It's not unusual and one reason I use autotune. There is a good dyno I can use less than an hour away, but to do a proper job you need to choose a piggyback they have the software an experience with to retune.
Hi David where did you purchase your rapid bike evo?
Hi Mark. I bought it from someone who had never fitted it. Skäl. David
@@MotoMirius no problem thank you for the reply I've found them the evo exclusive for £268 and the evo for £376 is the evo worth the extra 100+
@@MotoMirius okay thanks!
@@MotoMirius Hey I ended up ordering the evo. I have installed it now but to be honest It doesn’t feel any different to how it did before. Is there a way for me to know if it’s actually working and doing it’s job?
You shouldn’t feel any immediate difference. If it wasn’t working the bike probably wouldn’t be running very well.
@@MotoMirius the only thing that I have noticed is that when I start the bike while cold it sort of sputters/misfires once before starting. This didn’t happen before. Is this normal or what could it be?
