    Awesome man I got my 40 efi one well before the 5000 came out. Took mine home put it in the water and had nothing in the handle after about twenty minutes of running around with it. Turned out to be the handle plug in to the main harness was never connected good enough. I got mine from legacy marine out of Smithland Kentucky, owner was great help with this problem got it fixed and never had a bit of trouble from that ever again. Then I noticed oil between the transmission case and back of the block. So I called Keith at mudbuddy, they wanted pictures to determine what it was and I had to take it back to dealer and they called me and said that there was a little nick in the crankshaft the ruined the seal, polished it out and no problems since. I have 43 hours on mine and I don't cut it no slack. Can hear valves are getting close to needing adjusted again. I keep an eye on them pretty close. Great job I hope you haven't had any more problems work yours since. God bless and keep running shallow.

    I just worked on one for a customer I am actually a 35 year boat mechanic along with pwc atvs too. That's not ECU I have figured out his ECU is bad as well no spark and lift fuel pump don't run. I don't work on these or lawn mowers either My issue with these are its a lawn engine made into a boat motor. Me I would have a Yamaha outboard with a jet drive myself known rock solid dependable engines! I don't want to trust a Briggs and Stratton lawn engine to get me there and back.

    Thinking about buying a 50 horse mud buddy. I have just about changed my mind. Too many problems

      Tbh I haven't had a single issue sense the ECU went out. I think its like anything else...there is going to be gremlins no matter what just have to work them out.

    Does the 10 hour maintenance not come from mud buddy?

    I'd open up that hole where the spark plug wire comes through the front cover. Causes bad wear and then you get to replace 2 coils.

      Thanks for the heads up! I'll definitely do that.

    10 HOURS! Geeze! MY 35 had the gears and belt wear out at 12 hours. Then at 15 the oil pressure switch went bad and stranded me.

      Damn! That sucks. When you get stranded in these things there arent to many people that can come bail you out. lol

    Any chance you did a video on the 10 hour maintenance schedule?

    • @mcave1920
      @mcave1920  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No I havent...I need to get in there and do a video on the valve lashing. Everything else is pretty self explanatory.

    I think I'm having the same issue you had, how did you check if your getting fuel? My boat will crank but won't turn over, battery is good, has 6.7 hours on it. Ran fine, then went out today and wouldn't run.

      Is there fuel in your fuel filter? Take the football apart on your steering handle and make sure nothing came loose where the dead man switch is. Check out my ECU video...if your spark plugs aren't working and you are getting fuel to the engine its prolly an ECU problem or something electrical. You can call Micah at mudbuddy and he will help you troubleshoot but these motors are pretty simple, Fuel, Air, Spark.

    Are you running a Raptor 1 or 2 on your HDR?

    • @mcave1920
      @mcave1920  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tbh I didn't know that there was a Raptor 2. I bought this boat from Sunrise Marine in Searcy, Arkansas. This is the prop that comes standard on the HDR 5000 EFI.

      @@mcave1920 I gotcha. I have a Sport V w/40efi. Had a 55 Mag with a Raptor 1, had great acceleration, but cracked the block. Went to stock 40 efi (MB gave me a great deal-went to Utah to replace new block).
      My friend has a 55Mag HDR, keeps it under 4000 rpm's. Just saying 'cuz I don't want you to get DRAMA during duck season....ask Micah what the chamber/piston pressure is for a 5000 HDR. For my 40efi is 160, 55 Mag is close to 200. I know you love your duck boat as much as mine, and just cutting down on those rpm's sure makes the motor last. I am.going to a Big Blade/Raptor 2 for my 2 props. Currently have Hammer/Raptor 1. Good luck in Arkansas this season.👍

      @@jonclark9757 Thanks for the heads up! I typically wont run my motor over 38-3900 RPMs. I'll talk to Micah and get the specs for the 5000. Typically how long have yall seen these motors lasting? I actually live and hunt on the Texas South East Coast.

    • @jonclark9757

      @@mcave1920 my friends motor was purchased in 2013. He had it upgraded to HDR in 2018. So, it has lasted him for a good. Of time. I would say he has around 250 hours on his motor. Mud buddy has turned it up annually, if he is in the Utah region. Where we heart in California, there is restrictions on mud motors for say dealing with emission standards. So, he does have individuals work on it, but it's based on where he hunts in Oregon.

      @@jonclark9757 Awesome! I'm hoping I can make mine last for a good while. These motors aren't cheap! lol
