Last week my class did a poetry project where we had to pick, memorize and recite a poem of our choice. Knowing this is BASED off of a poem I asked if I can use it and he said yes. Surprisingly what the class didn't know that I was going to sing it, and I got an A+ on it.
Its so funny to see reactions popping up to this 8 years later. I'm actually in college now doing opera and computer science, so its funny to reflect on that middle school project. Thank you for the kind words fellas.
I'm so glad the makers of Stronghold Europe included all these fantastic songs from the later games that I doubt I would have heard otherwise. Bloody gorgeous
Sing with me lads! There were three men came out of the West Their fortunes for to try And these three men made a solemn vow John Barleycorn must die They've ploughed, they've sown, they've harrowed him in Threw clods upon his head And these three men made a solemn vow John Barleycorn was dead They've let him lie for a very long time Till the rains from heaven did fall And little Sir John sprung up his head And so amazed them all They've let him stand till midsummer's day Till he looked both pale and wan And little Sir John's grown a long, long beard And so become a man They've hired men with the scythes so sharp To cut him off at the knee They've rolled him and tied him by the way Serving him most barbarously They've hired men with the sharp pitchforks Who pricked him to the heart And the loader he has served him worse than that For he's bound him to the cart They've wheeled him around and around the field Till they came unto a barn And there they made a solemn oath On poor John Barleycorn They've hired men with the crab-tree sticks To cut him skin from bone And the miller he has served him worse than that For he's ground him between two stones And little Sir John and the nut-brown bowl And he's brandy in the glass And little Sir John and the nut-brown bowl Proved the strongest man at last The huntsman, he can't hunt the fox Nor so loudly to blow his horn And the tinker he can't mend kettle nor pot Without a little Barleycorn
This song's been with me for three years now. It wields a calm adventurous theme that I've grown fond of over those years. It's been with me for almost every book I wrote. Let's hope it stays for the next.
@@eggardkingofthemountain1592I think it goes to show that I've always had my roots in medieval/dark fantasy, even way back when. Grew up with a lot of cool stuff ❤
When I was playing Stronghold 3, this music appeared. I liked it very much, and tried to find it in my folder from Stronghold 3...But there wasn't this song.I searched everywhere to find it, and now i found it, through luck. Thanks very much to the uploader for this great song.
@Lord Bailey You see, we'd go our separate ways and all'd be good if You haven't said this one sentence: '' it sucks and they never completed''. This, this is simply not true. The game's not perfect, yeah. But it is still a damn good game. It doesn't matter that it didn't live up to the expectations of people, people who were expecting a Crusader or a new ''1''. By itself, it's a fine game, all the way through. THAT is the truth, my stranger friend.
They've hired men with crabtree sticks, to cut him skin from bone. And the miller's served him worse than that, he's ground him between two stones. And little Sir John and the nut-brown bowl, his brandy in the glass. And little Sir John and the nut-brown bowl, proved the strongest man at last. The huntsman he can't hunt the fox, nor so loudly blow his horn. And the tinker he can't mend kettle nor pot, without a little barleycorn. (x2)
And little sir John's grown a long long beard, and so become a man. They've hired men with scythes so sharp, to cut him off at the knee. They've rolled him, tied him by the waist, serving him most barbarously. They've hired men with sharp pitchforks, who've pricked him through the heart. And the loader's served him worse than that, for he's bound him to the cart. They wheeled him round and round a field, until they came unto a barn. And there they made a solemn oath, on poor John Barleycorn.
There were three men, came out of the west. Their fortunes for to try These three men made a solemn wow: John Barleycorn should die. They've ploughed, they've sown, they've harrowed him in. Threw clods upon his head. And these three men made a solemn wow, John Barleycorn is dead. They've let him for a very long time, till the rains from heaven did fall. And little sir John sprung up his head, and so amazed them all. They've let him stand until midsommers day, till he looked both pale and wan.
@BustedKeyboard It's a metaphor: The John barleycorn of the song is in fact the barley used to make beer. In this song they tell all the different stage of barley usage in alcohol making as if it was a real person. Hope it was clear.
I really enjoyed the game, although it was hardly worth 50$, there should have been more variety, the stronger soldiers were extremely slow (Although this was on purpose to force players to plan defensive positions) and there were a lot of unimplemented features. It needs an update to fix those broken features, like the ladders, siege towers, barbican and moat.
I agree, it's fun but only worth about half that. And since it seems so unpopular, maybe less than that, I still enjoy it, it's not as good as the previous but it's alright.
@ShamanStarseed k will all soundtrack to Traditional, Arranged/Produced by: Robert Euvino in sub and tom as this one to guitar/voice credits. thx for adding this do as it fast as possible
Is there some place we can purchase this recording and the one of Tom of Bedlam? I love these versions but I cannot find them anywhere, save in the game files and on youtube.
This song is not about just about making beer, john barleycorn or the corn king would be someone selected by the village to be sacrificed and then dismembered and buiried under the fields to ensure a good harvest.
i wish the options of this games was as variable as in for example legends, they could've made so much more out of this game. it was really fun for me, but short and no multiplayer as far as im concern
@hoodle101 sure it wasnt. but for what it is, there is older titles of the same series which did a better job than this. You could also put on auto selling in legends btw

I truely love this song. Poetry at its best. I'll drink to this song. To John Barleycorn!
Ha ha, I was only vaguely listening to this song and it sounded horrifyingly tragic, and then I realized it was a metaphor. Good stuff.
nice to see you here abel

John Barleycorn is not a person, not really.
What is really happening is the cultivation, harvesting and brewing process to make beer.
No shit.
Hank l indeed!
Thanks Captain
What a beautiful music, goddammit !! Simple beautiful
Also the music kicks ass.
Roses are red, Violets are blue, the music is epic, the game should be too. :/
Is it not?

I though the story was pretty good even though it really was the weakest Stronghold.

That is twaddle.
It's a 1624 song rewritten in the 1700's about making booze.
It's an allegory.
