    New transfers Doucoure, James Rodriguez and Allan boosted more confidence in the team. When the EPL kicked off Everton showed of their *fine class*. James Rodriguez works amazingly with his team mates and attacking duo DCL (Dominic Calvert Lewin) and Richarlison are able to understand each other and know what to do at the right time. Jordan Pickfords's rapid reactions is needed when defence Is weak or 1 on 1 position. Generally he is an amazing GK!
    I'm pretty sure Statman Dave will have something pretty different to mine and will be better too ❤

    They have a great side under ancelloti whose a world class manager, but I dont think they have the depth to break into the top 4, especially if a key player like james gets injured.

    • @numsig
      @numsig 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We have all sorts of cover for James. Whilst James is exceptional, the "difference" in our form from last year is down to the central midfield axis of Allan and Doucoure. Iwobi, Bernard, Gordon, Siggy and even Gomes can all provide cover for the creativity of James should he miss games. Gbamin returning means we'll have 3 strong mids in the centre too....therefore the only player whose injury can derail Everton is DCL - especially if it were to happen now whilst Richarlison is suspended, or to also get an injury. Talk of Everton's lack of squad depth is mostly misplaced.
      Everton have no European football, a top manager, some top level players, a deep squad (bar striker) and DCL generally rarely gets injured. Make no mistake, we're not Champions League contenders only, we're title contenders - although largely thanks to the effects of the pandemic on fans and fixture list. If we can get to January - where we can strengthen the depth further - still close to the top, we'll take some stopping!

    • @henrycohen7318
      @henrycohen7318 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@numsig come one man you those players are no where near the creative levels of james, with him and digne dcl will get no quality service, and even with those players yoy will likely struggle to make europa league, let alone challenge for the title. While its true you have no european football, If richarlison dcl or james gets injured the drop off is huge. Not to mention the shakiness of pickford and mina at the back who will leak goals all season long.

      Only DCL cannot be effectively replaced if Richarlison is also unavailable. Everywhere else we have high quality cover.....Bernard, Iwobi, Gordon, Siggy can all provide creative attacking midfield cover without a disastrous drop off in quality....all those players and Gomes, Davies were our only choices to play central midfield last season, which none are suited for...... that is a massive difference. Allan and Doucoure (and the return of Gbamin) effectively adds up to about 5-6 new players rather than 2/3 as it frees all those guys to play where they are supposed to play. Saying Everton lack squad depth is an quick and easy thing to say....just so long as you don't stop to actually think about it!!

      @@StatmanDave - You can give examples like this with almost any team, especially when playing against inferior opponents. In the same way you can get clips or footage of a poor player looking like Lionel Messi.
      The point I speak to is how we play "typically" and that is NOT like Liverpool.
      Before this season Liverpool had a workaholic 3 man midfield, and bar Thiago that's what it still is. We don't. We tend to play one of the three who is a ball player, be it Gomes or Gylfi. Doucoure is a box to box midfielder, only Allan is anything like a Liverpool type midfielder, even then his role is different at Everton. Also they defend from the front, we don't. They press high because they have the pace of Van Djjk, and Gomez and Trent and Robertson are not slouches, from there the three in midfield are higher up the pitch and they are then narrow with that front three also narrow. They get their width from the fullbacks on the ball, but essentially when they lose the ball in attack with any if the front three they tend to do so narrow and they then have 6 players that are in that final third in the gegenpress. Mane is one of the best pressing attackers in the world and so is Firmino, Salah isn't too bad either. So to escape the counter press is exceptionally difficult, all those players high and narrow. In fact when Liverpool have failed like they did against Aston Villa, it was because Liverpool did nit have an effective counterpress and by that I mean good pressure on the ball. It gave the player on the ball time and space to find runners - hence why the high line got exposed regardless of Van Dijk or the talent/pace in that back four. This shows how key the front three are for Liverpool in the gegenpress and how key Mane is who starts the press (he was missing that night). Liverpool or in fact any team cannot get away with a high line and no pressure on the ball, it is a recipe for disaster. In short Liverpool's best defenders are the front 3 and the midfield in condensing the space. Of course they score a lot if goals from this too by winning the ball back very high up the pitch, where it is often the case that a goal may be scored in one pass, one dribble etc. One of the rare things in this style of play is crossfield passes switching the play. Liverpool do it, just as Pep's Barca did it, but it is relatively rare because it's very unhelpful to the counter-press if you misplace the crossfield pass - harder to get your players around that area high/condensed to win the ball back.
      Now let's look at Everton:
      Everton do NOT play this way lol.
      I have already spoke a little too the character if our midfield. We also have many more ball players - Bernard, Iwobi, Davies, Delph etc.
      Who do we have who can press? Allan? Not really, he tends to marshall in front of the back four. Doucoure is flexible enough, but he does not press because he is the right sided midfielder who covers for James on the right and he has to cover for him when he drifts inside, covering Coleman on the right. Richarlison has the legs, he often instigates a press, but we do not operate a press in general because he is one player and we don't have the team and the tactics are not assigned this way. A counter-press is a team ethic, it requires all the right players coming together in unison, it is not Everton's philosophy, not Ancelotti's philosophy, he is a different types of manager and tactician.
      Speaking of the counter-press or gegenpress, it also requires players to be in position, in some ways a little ridgedly and this again speaks to the type of player, the assets they have.
      James Rodriguez is not a player that can play this way, he does not have the legs, he is not defensive minded, he does not have the instincts for this. Also we play him off the right, but he rarely stays there, rather he drifts into the middle, almost to the number 10 position, or at least that of inside right - you can't have this to play the way Liverpool do and that you speak to. Also one if hus best assets is the crossfield pass/switch of play. James is often either switching play crossfield from right to left to find Digne or Richarlison, if not he is drifting infield - both go against any notion of a counter-press, as does he as a player, as do many of our players.
      As I said, this is not helpful for the system you claim Everton play. Also Calvert Lewin, he has been given explicit instruction by Ancelotti to play within the width of the box and to make less runs outside the penalty area or via the channels and he has listened. The result of this and hard work has been more goals, but as a result he is much more of a poacher in the box. Ancelotti has given him the example of Inzaghi - nothing like the role occupied by Firmino at Liverpool.
      Lastly, take a look at Everton after they have gone a goal up this season in almost any if our games. Some say we switch off and let teams back-in. It's actually happening too often for it to be coincidence, it isn't coincidence. When Everton go a goal up, we very often drop back into a deep double block and look to hit on the counter. This is the exact opposite of gegenpress/counter-press. We get our players back into position deep and we say come on, break us down and we have Richarlison and Calvert Lewin looking to break. Unlike last season we have the passers in the side able to find them on the counter to devastating effect, be it James, Doucoure, Gomes, Gylfi, Allan etc - all of them can find a pass.
      ^ That is how we have played most games this season, never mind clips!!!
      This is also the way Ancelotti played at Napoli. Go and look at how he beat Liverpool with Napoli, it looks a lot like Everton this season.
      With all that I am done. If you think we play like Liverpool still, fine.
      Please excuse the odd letter typos: I have thumbs the size of boats and wrote this from a small virtual keyboard on a phone.

    I wasn’t expecting this much from Don Carlo, he tends to take a great team and make them the best rather than extremely average and make them top 4 challengers. Like how his play style is so simple and just suits his players
