      I find myself watching it, so I have to concede that it's good. A strong feminist Barbarella would have been a boor though. Her innocence made the conquering of evil and discovery of sexuality fun.

    We have learned over the years that it's OK for the hero to have an occasional doubt, for him to feel a touch of fear. Of course then he has to be brave and do the right thing and win the day, but it's OK if, just for a moment, he wonders if maybe this time he's pushed his luck too far and won't get out of THIS one alive.
    And Jane, it's OK for the hero to have that moment even when the hero is a woman. I feel like we've insisted that men be able to show their feelings, but we've also told women they can't show theirs, and that isn't actually progress.

    I disagree. I like the fact that the character BARBARELLA comes from an evolved planet where guns and weaponry are no longer important and mans consciousness has evolved even when it comes to sex. The character is an innocent, much like Dorothy in the WIZARD OF OZ. It would be a shame to make her a hipster. The "backward evil" planet that she is referring to the people used each other for sex with no feeling at all. This is the antithesis of what BARBARELLA is all about.

    • @mezathome8162
      @mezathome8162 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      but sex isnt evil, she’s innocent but her power is love and intimacy, rather than the dehumanizing pill thing that doesn’t make sense for there isnt really intimacy or positivity in that

    • @ScrapNfight
      @ScrapNfight 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@mezathome8162 But if you'll remember, she said sex become pointless when substitutes for ego support and self esteem were made available. The turn on was on the psychological.

    Barbarella in the original French comic was a lot different than as portrayed in the movie. She was no innocent but rather was an expert freelance professional covert agent who usually (but not always) worked for varies departments of the Earth government, a bit cynical, a little galaxy weary, was a crack shot and used her body and sexuality as a weapon (she was varie experienced in weaponizing sex and only balked at woman on woman encounters). When we first meet her she is trying to forget a serious relationship that went sour by flying off into deep space. And when she invades Sogo, city of night her plan is to subvert the "Great Tyrant" by seducing him, of course when she discovers the Tyrant is a she not a he, that idea gos out the window. At one point to celebrate a victory she chooses a handsome man at random from the crowed and go's to bed with him. Basically she was a space going female James Bond. Redoing the film with her character portrayed that way would be fascinating. Thanks for posting.

    NO! Do not remake Barbarella. This movie was made for Jane Fonda. No actress could be better for the lead character part. I heard they wanted Drew Barrymore back then to take the part. She 's not that good looking and does not have the BOD for it. Thank God they didn't. And that's the bottom line cause Stone Cold said so (from 976-CREOLEMAN)!

      I know how bad films can be hilarious, for me, this just isn't one of them. But whenever I've seen this film mentioned anywhere, it's not described as a so-bad-it's-good film like Battlefield Earth, it seems like people think this is a cool film because it stars a woman and it was made in the 60s.

Battlefield Earth on the other hand, I couldn’t even finish it was so lame and so boring. lol
