- The fantastic voyage of Jefferson Starship rose from the remains of the legendary Jefferson Airplane. Charter members Grace Slick and Paul Kantner join co-lead singer Mickey Thomas, guitarist Craig Chaquico and the rest of the band in rousing renditions of Airplane and Starship greatest hits for The Definitive Concert.

"Ride The Tiger" is power rock at its peak. Craig Chaquico's wizardry on the fretboard, and Starship Captain Paul Kantner & Band keep it rolling.
The remnants of Jefferson Airplane in their last gasp of greatness.
I was surprised to read that Jefferson Starship was originally Paul Kantner's side project, if I remember correctly. It wasn't originally meant to replace Jefferson Airplane, but eventually it did.
I don't remember the details, but at some point, Jefferson Airplane reemerged independently of Starship. Signe Anderson was one of the musicians who returned.
Actually the "Jefferson Starship" that played on Blows Against the Empire bore no resemblance to the one that was formed in 1974. Originally the Dragon Fly album was going to be credited to just Paul and Grace but it was decided to credit it to Paul, Grace and Jefferson Starship, which was composed of most of the musicians who joined the pair on tour in 1973 when it became apparent that Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady were making Hot Tuna a priority. That album also featured a guest appearance by Marty Balin, who hadn't recorded with Paul and Grace since 1970, on the song Caroline.
This band will go down in history as one of the greatest of all time! Chuck's Law
Hardly a last grasp.
Well the 1989 reunion of the original or actually the second lineup minus Spencer Dryden was pretty good, and Paul's 90s lineup had it's moments.
❤ this song. Glad to see & hear a good concert rendition.
they opened up a free concert in GG Park 1975 with this song. wow...
Damn! That would have been something to see. I didn’t make it there until 1990.
Didn't know what year this show was from until Paul stuck 1983 into the lyrics. This was near the end of his run in the band -- nice to see they still played one of his signature songs live. RIP.
I like the live band. This reminds me of a hot summer where we drove hay around in a truck.
The same awesome guitarist , the lead, is the one that played on the original, I believe, hell yeah, he's playing here
Craig Chaquico. Dude is way underrated.
@@CodeBleu724Craig is part of a golden generation of American guitarists along with Neal Schon, Steve Lukather, Randy Rhodes and, of course, Eddie Van Halen.
I was just singing this song in my head! Love I can pull up the live version.
I'm so on it... riding the tiger!
Crazy epic song
Обожаю эту группу!!!❤
Saw them at the Elliot Hall of Music Purdue. Great show. Missed Papa John though. His fiddle really SANG on this album…..

The Phantoms are landed for good
Paul Kantner shown on this one
This must have been just before he left.
@@MisterMikeTexashe was there into the early 80’s and I don’t remember seeing the date for this performance. But Paul is paramount to their sound. Paul and Grace together is fucking heavenly.
@@PHDWhom It got real poppy after Kantner left. Including "We Built This City" and "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us". But I like both those songs also. Mickey Thomas is a good singer, though I'm sure many have cursed him for the band's moving more toward arena rock and pop.
USAF Fly Overs
The audience is totally lame. I’d have loved to see this concert !
З цією тіткою хоч під воду❤
What happened to the end? They were a great band.
Phatom of the Bay
Several years ago I saw Jefferson Starship in Point Park, Pittsburgh, PA. In some ways the show was great, but sadly, in some ways it sucked.
I don't know who was in charge of sound, or what they were drinking, but there was a terrible buzz on the PA through most of the set.
Paul played guitar well, but his vocal chords sounded pretty damaged. On break, I saw him smoking a cigarette. If I remember correctly, didn't he die of lung or throat cancer shortly thereafter? Sad. 💔

The the ending with cut short. What a ripoff!
Fine Pistols @ Checkpoint Charlie
Crawl California
Still eminently listenable at this stage, for sure! but boy do I hate how feckless pop-boy Thomas wrecked this band.
