    As someone in a very LCOL state that just got a job offer in the Bay, your videos have been hugely helpful. Thank you!

    I have lived in The Bay Area for 44 years, including the Northbay, East Bay, and 17 years in SF (I was born here) including the last 12 years.
    While I can agree with some of your “pros”, I think that you significantly down-played the “cons”. I think that if you are really being honest (and I understand that as a realtor you need to maintain positivity), there are more cons including some that are significant. The cost of living and housing was glossed over. This is a real problem in many parts of The Bay. Additionally, the crime has become rampant (and not just here in SF), which is making many residents consider other parts of the state or country. Lastly, the homelessness is at epidemic levels in many Bay Area cities. This ties into both the cost of housing issue as well as crime.
    I was born here. I raised my kids here. I have my friends and some family here. However, I no longer can look at the beauty of our area without also seeing what it has sadly become.

    I have lived here all 64 years of my life and I have seen many changes. I have generations of family members who have lived and died here. All my family and friends are here. It's gotten to the point where I may never be able to buy a home here and I'm close to retirement. I'm sad to say that I may have to leave the area and my family.

      Hi Wanda, this makes me sad. I hope you're able to figure it all out!

    Walnut Creek and Alamo are legit. Anything that hugs Mount Diablo is good. Oakland, San Leandro and Richmond are terrible.

    Hi Jen, I've lived here my entire life, 55 years, and feel very fortunate to call the BA my home! If you work hard, you can afford a home, most people expect things to just be handed to them.. it doesn't work that way people! There are areas that are messed up, mostly Oakland because the mayor's have always catered to the homeless, same with SF, but there's so many nice areas in the BA you can live and work... Costs is all relative, salaries are very good here, so you can afford a home, who do think are buying these homes here? Yes, people who actually work for a living... weather is great, beaches are nice, a few short hours to Tahoe, Yosemite, Big Sur, Napa.... don't like? Move, you won't be missed.......

    can you make videos about the safety about neighborhoods in SF

    • @JenCogenHomes
      @JenCogenHomes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the video suggestion! in the meantime, Trulia.com has Neighborhood Guides with a "Crime and Safety" section that you might want to check out. For example, the Mission: www.trulia.com/n/ca/san-francisco/mission/81557/

      Anytime you climb a hill, you will find a good neighborhood. Stay away from the Tenderloin, Dogpatch, Hunter's Point and 6th and misson.

    I will be moving to the Bay area hopefully soon and will be making about 100,000/ year how much of that money will go to housing? I do have a travel trailer also which may make it cheaper. Will I be okay with that income I am single?

    • @JenCogenHomes
      @JenCogenHomes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Congrats! If you plan on renting, you should look at Craigslist and apartments.com to see rental prices in the area you are thinking of living in. Prices really vary depending on the location, and what type of rental. If you are thinking of buying, your credit, down payment, and debts will play a huge role in what you can afford.

    • @TazawaTanks
      @TazawaTanks 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you are renting, you will be okay in some parts of the Bay Area. Forget SF or the Peninsula though if you plan on living alone. $100K is not enough to live in your own home in these two areas.
      As far as purchasing a home…good luck. Unless you have at least a few hundred thousand available as a down, you most likely won’t have much success. I would think that with a $100K salary, you’d probably want to stay below $400K on a mortgage (maybe less). The median home price in the Bay Area is $1.3M. Let’s say that you found something small and affordable somewhere. Or, maybe even Contra Costa County where this video creator lives. The median home prices there is $760K . This means that you’d probably want/need to come in with close to $300K down (or more depending on what you purchase) to be able to afford a home there on your salary alone.

    What I love most about the Bay Area is the natural beauty. I always enjoyed my bus commute run from Larkspur to the Financial District. I think going over the hills through the Waldo Tunnel, is the prettiest metropolitan highway ever. I think you should do a video in the microclimates here, Pacifica and Antioch, for example, are like two different states in terms of weather.

    • @JenCogenHomes
      @JenCogenHomes  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is so much natural beauty here, you're right! The microclimate video is a great idea. There are so many, often within the same city! Thanks for watching and leaving such nice comments.

      You are going to need to do research. 45k salary is required in cities like Minneapolis where you can have health insurance & stable housing.
      45k doesn’t include grocery stores, landscaping jobs or Starbucks. You’re going to need to find a blue collar position ~good pay or get a degree.
      Otherwise stay tfo

    San Fran is full of homeless people, closed stores, crime big time, empty streets and stores, so is Oakland except worse. Alameda is good except very expensive for what you get.
