Update: I visited Hyundai Service Center and the guy there checked and yes it's the same issue as mentioned in this video. The oil pressure sensor. Put the new sensor on and everything goes back to normal, no oil warning light. Cost: 13+21 USD approx. Sensor+ labor
Hey! We have this similar issue with our 2015 Hyundai Elantra. The oil light flickers when the vehicle is slowing down, and eventually close after that the engine shuts off. The car starts up just fine, and resumes the whole process. We took the advice and bought a new oil pressure sensor. There was a lot of oil leakage when we replaced the sensor. However, we are still having the same issue. Any recommendations?
Common questions here, did you clean the connector, did you check the oil level? And I say this because in my other video the dipstick will make a brown stain that tricks you into thinking its full but its not. The next thing you can do is to rent for free an oil pressure gauge from autozone, screw it into the hole where the pressure switch was and check the actual pressure..almost like taking a blood pressure test on the engine..2nd, how old is the oil, might need an oil and filter change if its dirty. Hopefully its not a bad engine for which they are known for. Good luck
@@alyoungcudamy 2015 engine light just came on yesterday evening. I took it to O’Reillys and they scanned my car. Turns out it was the oil pressure sensor. However, I literally had my oil changed yesterday morning. They also replaced the oil filter, ac filter and air carbon filter. Also had my inspection done and it passed. I drove it home. No problems. I drove it out a little further yesterday evening, engine light pops on as soon as I park my car. That’s when I took it to O’Reillys. Left my car at my dads because I was scared to drive it home. I have taken exceptional care of my car. Barely hit 89k on it. No issues prior. My dad texts me about 30 minutes ago to let me know he moved it and the engine light is off. Is this normal? He’s going to take it to get checked out tomorrow after he gets out of work. I hate car issues. They always freak me out. 😮💨
@@bloggerbriii ok, the car was normal before the parts change, I would physically look at the engine oil level to make sure they put enough oil in it, second, the engine air filter, when they changed that, they could of left something unplugged, left the rubber hose loose and didn't tighten the clamp, some cars have an electrical sensor with a plug and they might of left that off or loose, the air filter cover could of not been put back on properly and its not closed right. Sometimes you need to double check the shops work..its amazing right? So did you change the oil pressure sensor?
@@alyoungcuda I’ll screenshot and share this with my dad. He’s a bit older and can’t do all that himself. And I won’t let him even if he could because this Texas heat is a bit much here lately. Should I have him grab a sensor and take it into the shop when he goes to get it serviced tomorrow?
Can't tell the exact problem but when was the oil and filter changed last? Do you do your oil changes at the regular intervals and does the engine run rough? Any check engine lights on?
@alyoungcuda I keep the oil changed. Looks normal, engine runs very good for about 20 to 30 minutes, then it dies and when I restart the car it struggles very bad driving. Eventually the engine shuts off again. The oil light flashes but never stays solid
Great Work Bud ! Thanks for the video . I'm having the same problem with my elantra 2015 . its around 1 am in the morning, and the oil lamp started flickering on and off , at times it doesnr come on, then after a while it flickers on and off. Twice in a span of 5 hours driving, the car stalled and i had to start it again , and I thought maybe the oil pump is dying on me. Lol. Pretty freaked me out! But After watching your great video , im quite positive that it might be the switch which is giving up on me. I'll get another switch and replace it to see if it fixes the problem. Thanks again !
@@alyoungcuda just a quick update. So after leaving the above comment last night, I decided to head straight home , but as I was driving, the oil lamp flashing got worse , and I decided to pull into a gas station and do some inspection. So I did a visual inspection of the oil pressure switch , took the connector off and it looked OK, no leakage at all. Then when I decided to check the oil level , it was low ! This is quite strange bcoz I've driven only about 5,000km now , since I did my last oil change . I'm just wondering what happened to that oil, bcoz the car has no leakage . Nwayz long story short, I topped my oil with about 500ml that I bought at the gas station , and to my surprise, the lamp stopped flashing completely after driving around for about 5 km . This morning I woke up and drove for about 120km , and the light didn't come back on ! 🙂🙂 So youre very right , better to check the oil level before thinking about replacing the switch. I just did an oil chnage on my 2017 last night and it was on the full mark and once i started driving it for work the oil pressure lamp keeps blinking on and off and stays mostly on and now the oil level is half way down on the dipstick. 😐 should i check this sensor then? Or just add oil?
1/2 down the mark is still in the good mark, check the sensor connector for oil from a leak, then change the oil pressure sensor , clean the connector with a spray of brake cleaner and allow to dry 5 minutes
Yes and definitely check the oil level..those dipsticks stains brown it it looks like they are full but it's empty..look for actual wet oil..its on my other video about this problem..a Quick glance and it will fool you..
Yes, I have previously when they've to that issue. I just did an oil change, because the oil light came on. I have found that on my wife's Elantra and my other Hyundai, I take a wire wheel to the dipstick so that the brown stain goes away. But be careful to make sure it's cleaned before putting it back in.
I’m having the same issue with a flickering oil light. Oil is fine, battery is fine, but my car completely shut off while I was driving it. My check engine light isn’t on either, and the dealership can’t get me in until June… any suggestions?
Its the oil pressure switch that sends a signal to the computer that there is no oil so it shuts down the engine to prevent damage..now are you sure there is oil in the engine..on a similar model the customer looked at the oil dipstick and she said it was full but in reality it only had 1/2 a quart of oil..the car uses about 4 to 5 quarts..The dipstick can show a false positive..I will attach the video

Its been like this for a year and I have just been switching the oil every 500miles to prevent the light and any damage. do you have any solutions or idea what this could be?

Update: I visited Hyundai Service Center and the guy there checked and yes it's the same issue as mentioned in this video. The oil pressure sensor. Put the new sensor on and everything goes back to normal, no oil warning light.
Cost: 13+21 USD approx. Sensor+ labor
@@KashifNawaz85 good price on that...
So you dont have to drain the oil before doing this it looks like?
No draining, very little if any oil drops out
No, we didn’t buy the sensor yesterday because I wasn’t aware they sold that at O’Reillys. The guy scanning the car never mentioned it either. Should I have him grab a sensor and take it into the shop when he goes to get it serviced tomorrow?
@@bloggerbriii yes, change out the sensor, its a common problem with these engines as you can see..
I have a 2015 model, the oil light keeps coming on then the engine dies... struggles to restart. So what is the exact problem?
Can't tell the exact problem but when was the oil and filter changed last? Do you do your oil changes at the regular intervals and does the engine run rough? Any check engine lights on?
@alyoungcuda I keep the oil changed. Looks normal, engine runs very good for about 20 to 30 minutes, then it dies and when I restart the car it struggles very bad driving. Eventually the engine shuts off again. The oil light flashes but never stays solid
@shawnwhite3662 could be this problem on your engine vvt solenoids

Do you have to drain the oil before removing?
Not at all..
Can I send you video of how my car sounds?
Check your oil level..someone had a similar problem and the dipstick was stained and it looked full but it was not..look for an actual wet level...
So youre very right , better to check the oil level before thinking about replacing the switch.
Your video has saved me alot of frustration and money to the parts shop !!!

Did you check the oil level, actually look for a wet mark? See my other video on the oil dipstick stain that makes people think they have oil at the level but don't.

I had my dad check to make sure there was oil in it, and he even filled it up a little bit more just to make sure. However, the oil light is still flickering. I’m going to have him check the oil sensor to see if maybe that’s the problem.

I thought this was a good video until I followed your instructions exactly. I was trying to save my girlfriend a bill when I saw how easy this fix was. That was until i turned the oil pressure switch until it got "nice and tight" as you said. But somehow the engine got a serious crack in it above the oil pressure switch. I could not believe it!! When it was all said and done.... the bill to have a mechanic to replace the upper oil pan - that is where the oil pressure goes into.... the cost to pay someone to fix it was 1350.00 dollars!! Another shop quoted me 2500 dollars!! My girlfriend almost had a nervous breakdown when I told her we might have to replace the engine. Because on many models of cars that would be the whole engine block that would crack. The engine would have to be replaced. All I will say is I thought of subpoena you through TH-cam for really causing the damage to fail to warn about how the engine can get damaged. You really need to have those kind of warnings in your videos. Preferable with Red lettering over your actual videos. Wherever serious damage could occur in these videos you make. You know what Al baby, I think I would have good case in court to sue you.
I'm sorry this happened to you but everyone has a different strength when it comes to tightening any thing.
@alyoungcuda 😮 everything should be snug tight not overtightened 😅, but dang I'm scared to do this now
@@sheeshd977 when you have done enough of them you can feel when it gets tight and the tool you use will also make a difference, people use 3/8 drive, others use 1/2 in drive tools, some use channel lock pliers, mechanics know too loose it leaks, too tight you break it, over tight and you break everything..the old saying goes. If in doubt, send it Out. And of course others never clean the oil in the connector before they reinstall it on the new one. There is a reason why you don't wet a plug on a toaster and then plug it into a wall socket...😆

Its been like this for a year and I have just been switching the oil every 500miles to prevent the light and any damage. do you have any solutions or idea what this could be?
