Glad you went to Benidorm so I never have to, Gabe. My idea of hell!
What I love about Spain is the great expanse of the interior, places and routes that I first learned of in books like Laurie Lee's "As I Walked out one Midsummer Morning". Lee, in particular, was the great grandfather of your type of travel, walking across Spain in the early 1930s and showing so much of the country to readers. If you haven't read the book, I think you would love it.

Yay, I grew up not far from there. Been living in London past 34 years, though. Really recommend you check out all the old medieval villages about an hour or so inland. Especially the medieval village of Alcalà de la Jovada, and the next-door abandoned Moorish village of L’Atzuvieta. There’s a great (though freezing cold) place where you can go wild swimming near Planes called Barranc de l’Encantà, where supposedly a Moorish princess cast a spell. For stunning views over the reservoir, Castell de Guadalest is also worth a trip (though it can get touristy, though not so much this time of year). Enjoy and have fun!!!

Have you thought of walking one of the Caminos de Santiagos, Gabe (the ancient pilgrimage routes across Spain to the tomb of St James)? The most well-known one is the Camino Frances or French Way, but that is really crowded. My son walked the Camino Primitivo last year from Oviedo to Santiago, and loved it. That route goes over the mountains and is the most physically challenging. There are many hostels en route, most costing just 5-10 Euros, and the camaraderie among walkers is wonderful.

He probably wasn't...if you get the chance try the churros con chocolate for breakfast in any churreria or bar that sells them, they are divine! Also get a Catalana (ham, tomato and oil sandwich), or it's humble but delicious cousin Pan y tomate - toasted bread that you grate the supplied clove of garlic on, then add olive oil and pulped fresh tomato. That guy who tried to sell you something at the restaurant wasn't "musical sock seller"... He said he's "Gitano" which means Gypsy in Spanish. He then said the word flamenco probably because it's one of the most famous things related to Gypsies in Spain, not because what he sells has something to do with music.

  • @kaes7041

The "bull" clearly depicts two motives from Picasso´s Guernica. The mourning woman with the dead child and the enigmatic bull whom some people interpret as a symbol of the brutality of fascism and some as a symbol of the inner strenght of the spanish people to endure even the greatest of horrors. Apparently in 2021 there was an exhibition in Benidorm about the history of Picasso´s Guernica and I think the statue is a remnant commemorating that event.

I think it was "morcilla" (bloodsausage) you ate there.
Benidorm is the retirement home in Spain. Thats why you saw so many elderly people there.
Church of our solace lady in Altea is impressive. Im learning more and more in internet. You are right, those old settings with old castles and churches are nice and is what Europe is all about. One of these days I learned that in the US there is a glimpse of that too. You ever been to the Bishop Castle in Colorado? Pretty impressive that one man alone build it during his lifetime. On the other hand it is a place people obsessed with security shouldnt visit.
You didnt like Estrella Galicia Xd
    Good and safe traveling!

That was beautiful music at the end of your video. I like that you tried the Spanish omelet in that ' slice of cake form/ tortilla' and the Black Pudding Sausage called Morcilla. Some British You Tubers visit Benidorm often and don't eat /try the Spanish food. They are very close-minded. They eat only Fish and Chips and English Breakfasts. Sad that they think their viewers only want to see them eat British food. You probably know to whom I am referring.

Zjis is why they go in May because of the temperature...in peak season is very hot or too hot for many..... if you look closely many are quite mature tourists. Plus the price is much cheaper in off season ( may )

@@GabrielTravelerVideos I wish I could live long term in either Spain, Greece, or anywhere in Europe for that matter. As you know you have to leave every 90 days and then can return 90 days later, so can only live in Europe 180 days in a year. I like the fact that Spain and Greece have towns and cities on the beach that have a temperate climate, not very hot and humid, more like San Diego weather which I like.
