TO PUT THE GATE TOGETHER: there are two pieces. On both pieces there is an end with the bars sticking out and an end that is more flush. The two sticking out sides face each other. If you look closely at the photo in the instructions you will see this. Under each end is a hole where the joining piece will slide in. It's hard to explain typing, but I hope it gets you on the right path. Also, if you bought an extension, put those on first and then measure the width you need your after.
One of the other problems I ran into with this gate is that the hardware to install into a 2x4 behind drywall is not included. This was a surprise given that it's clearly installed into drywall on the package and says that the hardware is included.
Gate installation kit instructions are absolutely horrendous to follow as are the instructions for this product as well. I found several errors in the instructions in terms of designating the appropriate pieces for the unit. KidCo should seriously reconsider the design of its "instructions."
Agreed. The instructions are pretty horrible. The trickiest part here is putting the 2 pieces of the gate together, but you show NOTHING about how to do it. Oh! And can you please actually label the hinge and door pieces -- seems obvious now, but only after consulting a few folks to decipher the lame illustrations. Not to mention you labeled the screws incorrectly: step #5 is NOT screw f & g; it's m & i. There's no other way they can work. So far this gate is HORRIBLE.

The graphics really should be on the same page as the instructions. I also came here looking for a video on how to put the two pieces together.

Do NOT buy this unless you're comfortable assembling things with terrible instructions. These make IKEA look like child's play
