    Here's the five steps (summarized):
    1 Find what you're passionate about
    2 Mastering your craft (with projects (free or paid), with the idea that you will be the best in the world)
    3 Finding your voice (a fine-tuning of your passion)
    4 Building your platform (putting out content, attracting people, building a tribe, creating a space online for connecting with others)
    5 Serving your tribe (conglomeration/climax of all the above)

    I tend to flip-flop between hobby-mode and potential-career-mode -- in the latter I tend to start looking into studying things that aren't that interesting. I suppose I'm not interested so much in coding as software engineering though I have no get an engineers credentials. I find myself drawn to game programming (and have made arcade games, mods for games, and started a 3d engine and city builder), but am intrigued by scientific computing and systems programming (neither of which I've studied or done, yet) -- but most work seems to be for web-programming which I don't find interesting. It doesn't help that I'm not a businessman and no good at sales. I'd love to be an indie game developer, especially for semi-casual games that not hardcore but more complex than "casual" (I don't see those much, most is one extreme or the other), but it seems I'd have to support myself some other way than by freelancing if I were to ever get there (and I'm not sure I'd ever support myself that way as a day job). I do need to learn more languages, and especially relearn C++, which I got rusty and behind on during hard times after which I switched to Java -- only really being proficient in one language isn't very pro, especially one that doesn't fit all my interests that well, but algorithms and architecture are just more fun than languages. I really do have a lot still to learn. Interesting thoughts, though.

    Hey! greetings from Venezuela!, and thanks for that. I'm subscribed! I would like to work programming with Java EE, I have a bit of experience programming, I worked 2 years programming with COBOL, and have like 4 months of experience programming in Java. By any chance, do you happen to have experience with Java EE, if so would you mind giving an advice to a beginner?

    thank you SIR ..This is infact a great video..I am Electrical Engineer but i love to code and I want to lunch an organization that can help students in selecting their Final Year Projects and Research.I want to develop such a platform which will help the needy students in full-filling their project.My aim is that an organization that will ask the students to submit their proposals and then all the innovative ideas will be selected and then students who are doing these projects will be provided a professional environment and guidance under the flag of which they will have to complete their project and research.Then this organization will provide this idea to industries and then the students who have worked on this idea will be given 50% revenue generated from their idea.

      Hey bro , i am not into Android Development but I looked for the same, first of all from what I researched you should learn Java. There is a tons of resources online about Java. Once you know the insides and outsides of Java you should consider moving to Android Development. Hope this helped, happy coding.

    So much waffling. So little value.

    • @john.morris
      @john.morris  8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +kaneshirojames the video or the comment?

    • @unev
      @unev 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The comment is, obviously, short. John, don't take it on your chin, we respect what you do, but your video has 8.5k views not 8.5kk, probably there's a tangible reason behind it. Good luck.

    • @john.morris
      @john.morris  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      But see... that's kind of my point. You mention views, but anybody who actually knows anything about TH-cam knows that watch time is far more important than views. And, this video is in the top 15% of all 292 of my videos for watch time. Not to mention the majority of comments are overwhelmingly positive. And dodo bird's original comment talks about "so little value"... and yet he offers nothing constructive in his comment. Thus my reply. So, meh...

    • @unev
      @unev 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I see the grounds of your meh. It's definitely harder to keep the audience involved for more than 10 minutes. Maybe it's just two of us... could be the case. But to my taste the video isn't saturated enough. Right now it has a flavor of a hail-fellow talk, it sounds as if some of the main points of the video are being shaped in the process of the video. I think your content would only win if divided in smaller chunks. But again, I can't tell what your goal is, maybe further refactoring doesn't yield any tangible result. From my (the consumer's) pov you have precious ore I have interest in, but an extra mile is required to turn it into a gem. Everything said - with do respect.

    • @john.morris
      @john.morris  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure. That could be true. You'll notice, though, the video is creeping up on 3 years old now. So most of what you've said I've heard before and dealt with. You may try some of the newer videos... might be more what you're thinking.
