Incredible Pitch Meeting. The concept for Wednesday just doesn't line up with the way the Addams Family operates as characters or as a show. Call it something else, give her a different name, and it's a lot more logical. It seems like so many shows now just use recognizable names to pique peoples' interest but don't do anything to be like the source of the names. Almost like they just want money...
This was a breath of fresh air. This one was one of the best. You should most certainly do a top ten, also you should do a subscriber based voting to see where your opinions differ? Personally the dark knight and she-hulk pitches are two of the best in my opinion. What pitch had the disembodied ghost head?
Yeah it felt a little repetitive after 5 episodes for me and I stopped, well I planned on taking a break but never got the urge to finish it lol. The pitch meeting was really good lmao. I love the ending part about the dance that goes viral on TikTok lol.
Grew up with the movies and have Always loved them! Wednesday was always my favorite so I had to just not think to hard while watching this show to enjoy it! LOL it was fun to watch with the boys though! This Pitch was Amazing!! The part about Goodie being and Addams really needed to be addressed 🤣 and omg I was Dying at the Plants vs Zombies thing about the monster hahahaha spot on!!!
I couldn't watch it at all, I drop it before finishing episode 1. After listening to Ryan's, I'm glad that I didn't miss much. Like he said, missing the point of the whole character and IP to appeal to the usual Netflix only demografic now, teen girls. About the pitch meeting itself, even without knowing everything that he talks about like in most, I think this is one of the funiest, right up there with Coraline.
If you watch Chilling Adventures of Sabrina you could see the many many similarities between them. So if the Addams family are not like this (I don't know the source material) I think that's where most of their inspiration come from.
I honestly couldn't get into it. It just didn't feel like it was THE Addams family. I might try watching it again at some point, but going in excited for a new Addams family series was obviously not what would get me to enjoy the series. If I try watching it again it will have to be me consciously making an effort to separate this series from The Addams Family in my mind.
Hi, I love your videos! Can you do a reaction on songs by bill wurtz? (For example: "I'm best friends with my own front door", "outside", "La de da de da de da de day oh", "i just did a bad thing", and some others.) Thank you!
Yeah, I found the show to be okay as well. I mean, the story was pretty okay, especially compared to all the crazy stuff that's been coming out lately. But, when I tried to binge it, I couldn't get through more than three episodes in a day. It gets kind of tedious, it didn't really grip me and keep my attention for long. But, not at all a bad show to watch. Some of the acting is amazing, the costuming is great, the setting and environment is just gorgeous! All in all, I'd say a pretty decent show.
A potential solution to the Goodie Addams plot hole is that the Addams family inbred with each other. If true that would explain a lot and would be very consistent with their brand.
I loved the show and yet still can not argue with any of his critic points, that is the power of ryan george he manages to make fun of a show without insulting the fans of it
I still really liked the show. I know he is trying to be funny, and damn it if he isn't. Wednesday does and will always care about family and friends. That is why she cares here. Everything else she is cynical about. I think they did right in that, because it stops her from being a one note character. We see a bit of growth and change while keeping the same kind of girl.
The show is fine, I have not watched anything related to Addams family until I watched the show, I figured out the Hyde is Tyler in episode 3 cause he was pretty much doing nothing but just be there so him being the Hyde is not a huge reveal for me. All and all the show is not great but it's entertaining
People can kill me for saying so, but next time you want to watch wednesday, pay close attention to the series of events that occur. I did, and got far more than what I bargained for. It is not only a gold mine for terrible writing (even though there are definitely some good things about the show) but it is also a monument to the mary sue-pocalypse that has been sweeping through the movie industry lately. Bite me.
Tim Burton + Wednesday Addams seems like a *perfect* combination. When I watched the show I forgot he even directed it. It didn’t seem like a Tim Burton project or like an Addams family project. Hopefully season 2 is better because I still want to see what I went in expecting. Jenna Ortega’s performance is what kept me interested, she played the character well and it was entertaining to watch.
I share most of your opinions and I did watch the whole show. I didn't like it at all. It is very generic and has nothing remarkable about it, beside the dance scene. I know the show is its own thing, but lacks a lot of the Addams Family's vibe that would have make me enjoy the show more. At least the lead character definitely was the best character of the show, because everybody else was just boring or uninteresting. I liked Jenna Ortega as Wednesday, but I didn't like that the show portrayed Wednesday as a cocky attention seeker that always was annoyed or angry; Christina Ricci's more indifferent, darker and serene tone was way better in the movies. Also, the show was so predictable that by the second episode, I was already sure who the monster was and that Christina Ricci's character was involved somehow; they writers were pathetically desperate trying to frame the school director and the painter boyfriend as the villains. And like you said, the show doesn't feel like a Tim Burton's project; it feels more like if a random Netflix producer made the whole show and then asked Burton to put his name in the credits. In conclusion, I was completely disappointed. I wasn't going to give the show a chance because Netflix, but I let myself get fooled by how popular the show seems to be. I thought I was going to be positively surprised like I was when I gave Squid Game a chance, but no. I should have listen to my instincts this time lol
Me personally, I like the show. Jenna Ortega is a good Wednesday, but yeah Pitch Meeting pretty much confirmed my suspicion that a lot of the core concepts of Wednesday and the entire Addams family is contradicted with the story and how they would react. However, it was still an interesting series to watch which encourages me to know what happens next.
I'd really love the show if only it had nothing to do with the Addams Family, the fact that Wednesday Addams of all people is trying to actively stop terrible things from happening kinda ruins it for me personally. 😂
Possibly my favourite PM! Wish the series wasn’t a Tim Burton project. [DISCLAIMER: excuse me while I get on my soapbox about a topic I’m passionate about. for anyone in the comments who loves Tim Burton, think of this as feeding the algorithm which apparently loves longer comments for ‘engagement’. not trying to start a fight because taste is a personal thing] I actively *loathe* Tim Burton & all of his directorial choices: He literally ignores the concepts/stories behind the characters (i.e., Ed Wood was portrayed as ‘cross-dressing = haha’ when the real story was so much more interesting, his version of Willie Wonka had none of the humanity and depth of Gene Wilder’s portrayal, he took out all of the layers/grandiosity that makes Sweeney Todd magical onstage), reducing them to caricatures. His male leads are notoriously self-inserts to a gratuitous degree. He doesn’t give actors space for grounded, nuanced characterisations, preferring they do schtick. His style is best described as “Disney goth”- he aims for the aesthetic with none of the core complexity and introspection of the actual Goth subculture. (Yes, I’m an old punk/goth, so this is more than a little irritating and reductive) His take on women in his work is… less than nuanced. His comments about why he doesn’t have a lot of POC in his work is, to put it as generously as possible, insensitive. He has a history of taking undue credit. *cough* Nightmare Before Christmas He makes good actors give bad performances!! This infuriates me. (…noooo, really? couldn’t tell by this long-@ss rant💀) The only things I’ve ever seen Helena Bonham Carter be bad in were *his* films. His use of Johnny Depp as his muse saw him go from an actor who gave intriguing performances to a caricature artist who seems incapable of doing anything more subtle than a cartoon. AAAAAND FINALLY, *inhales* Because he likes the goth aesthetic, he frequently picks topics to which I feel a deep appreciation/attachment. He then goes on to destroy everything important about them. I have so very frequently seen that there is a work coming out based on something niche that I love (Ed Wood, Miss Peregrine, Margaret Keane, et-freaking-cetera) only to have my soul broken by seeing his name. The heart and soul of the Addams Family is their unwavering support and unconditional love for one another. That is what makes them revolutionary in a world where couples/families are portrayed as ‘humorously’ disagreeing due to still-lingering stereotypes about people’s roles within the dynamics. They are the funhouse mirror into which you want to escape because they model healthy relationships. No matter what their individual quirks are, they unconditionally accept each other for who they are. (Even in the original, the comics, which is arguably the darkest version) To have Wednesday and Morticia at odds because it furthers the story that he wanted to tell proves that literally anyone else could have told a better Addams Family story. tl;dr, I’m not a Tim Burton fan.
The fact that he actually left and they both came back the following Wednesday is hilarious! 🤣
