"Ben & Jerry’s said in a lawsuit filed Wednesday that parent company Unilever has silenced its attempts to express support for Palestinian refugees and threatened to dismantle its board and sue its members over the issue.
The lawsuit is the latest sign of the long-simmering tensions between Ben & Jerry’s and consumer products maker Unilever. A rift erupted between the two in 2021 after Ben & Jerry’s said it would stop selling its products in the Israeli-occupied West Bank because it was inconsistent with its values, a move that led some investors to divest Unilever shares.
The ice cream maker then sued Unilever for selling its business in Israel to its licensee there, which allowed marketing in the West Bank and Israel to continue. That lawsuit was settled in 2022."

They always call you an antisemite but never a liar…
*Bravo, Ben & Jerry's!* 👍👍
They are totally right to support Palestinians.
@@JosueMartinez-ww1vj no they're reckless idiots who want Jews to die
I have seen way too many posts from men coming on to Anna in a very creepy and inappropriate way, and I have had it!!!!! From now in when I see them I am calling these creeps out. It’s disgusting. She is happily married. She is a whole human being. Your posts are disrespectful. Stop!
Comment sections. I'd bet they didn't sent these messages in the TYT chat
Even as a man, they really got the hots for Anna given her physiques. The thirstiness is kinda funny.
Reading these comments I see we have a lot of people who are strangely loyal to Unilever
I love Ben & Jerry’s❤ Great job guys!!🥰
Mab Ben&Jerries is the only ice cream worth supporting. From a labour , political , quality and taste standpoint
Unilever wants ben and jerrys to sell ice cream, not put out political statements.
We want our government to govern for us, not use it towards accomplishing a political Zionist goal.
Perhaps Unilever should not shove their politics down the throat of Ben & Jerry's...
After all, it's not Unilever who makes the ice cream.
Antisemite spotted.
@@bohemianwriter1Unilever initiate unsolicited political commentary to its customers?
Why do you defend war mongerers?
Makes me wanna buy more Ben 'N Jerry's because they support human rights.
Makes me want to run to the store now and buy some Ben & Jerry’s!!!!
Try Langeles instead.
@ never heard of them
Calling hamas supporters a pro peace movement is a hoot 😂
And so it is the same to Call the zionist and IDF the most moral war makers, DB
I'm a progressive Jew, a blue dot in a red state, Tennessee, and no, that is not antisemitic.
We just care about human life. It doesn't matter who it is. It doesn't matter where they live. We just need to let the world and our government know that we care about these people. That's it.
Not even their Arab brothers let them live on the land that was meant for Palestine.
They don't think it's anti-Semitic, but they know other groups will say it. Like every other corporation they want absolutely nothing to do this topic. As the owner of the brand, they have a right to control the brand messaging.
It doesn't matter what side it's on, whether it's anti-semitic or not--it's that political statements have financial repercussions and the board has a fiduciary duty to shareholders. That's all.
When i was young, before Ben and Jerry's were big or sold their company, I lived near one of their original locations/dairy farms. During a visit I fed one of their cows which then licked my entire face in one swipe. I'm glad that at least the creators of one company that added a core memory to my life turned out to be good folks.
Right on!! Good people standing up 🤙🏽
Unilever is selling off all its ice cream brands by the end of 2025.
I adore this coverage Anna and Cenk. Thank you….more of this!
It's a sad day when an Ice Cream Company has a better foreign policy then your government.
I would love for the Daily Wire to make their own ice cream and call it “Ben and Jeremy’s”
Who are they to force Palestinians into my country
What is your country exactly?
I looked up the head of ice cream Peter ter Kulve and he looks pretty fit, doesn’t make sense
Maybe it’s not a good idea to sell your firm to a huge conglomerate, if you have any values that you hold dear. Try instead selling the controlling interest to the workers who built it.
I don’t remember the name of the company, but some years ago the two founders - who put certain commitments in the corporate charter - took on a third partner.
Despite the explicit terms in that contract, it was like the case of the Dodge brothers versus Ford: the minority shareholder’s profit interest took priority over the other values.
(In the Ford case, Henry basically cited patriotism as justification for raising wages, even though he could have argued that the measure would be to the advantage of the other shareholders who were in competition with the Dodges’ own enterprise.)
Ben & Jerry's is perhaps the only brand which should get a free pass to be insufferably woke. It was founded by a pair of hippies and strident activism was always a core part of their ethos.
Its not absurd, ITS EVIL.
I smell "controlled opposition".
Just because of this I'm getting Ben & Jerry's today 🤤
Did Ben and Jerry’s bother to ask the British people about Palestinian refugees?? I watch their news a lot and the people of that country don’t see to want that.. That country is a tender box as is.
I'm a Brit. Very very few people want Palestinians here.
B&J should go independent.
Unilever is selling off all its ice cream brands by the end of 2025.
Go ben jerry i life time costumer
Unilever..Have you ever heard of "FREEDOM OF SPEECH"..??
Individual citizens have free speech, not corporations.
@@Spyrit2011 - Citizens United ruled that corporations are people. I know it's idiotic, but that's what the Supreme Court dished out.
I love those old crazy hippies!
Can you answer me that all I see is how bad Hamas is for Oct 7th, yet I don’t see anyone talk about how Israel has treated the Palestinians for decades unaliving & locking up children as well as adults. If that was my people I’d 100% be apart of resistance & I question any man that wouldn’t.
Ben and Jerry's activism is condescending and tiresome. Hopefully this is the end of the age of corporate preaching.
Usually I'd agree with you. But strident political activism has been a core part of their brand since the 1970s, so they're the one company I'm willing to give a free pass to be insufferably woke.
Daily Wire will be selling ice cream soon
Geez... I invested into Unilever after digging into Ben & Jerry's because I liked them as a company. What now? Should I sell it all off while I'm ahead?
They are not the only company in the market you can make use of your money in better places
Would love to tell people I'm the Head of Ice Cream when they ask what I do 🤣
Ben& Jerry's has a special contract with Unilever so they are supposed to be allowed to do this, at least that was my understanding of the deal with their buy in. They were very smart about it. They won't budge on quality, or their politics.
Did Ben and Jerry's ever give their land back to the Nulhegans tribe?
i used to scoop ice cream at ben n jerry's in key west; its gone now... the couple who owned it was sooo chill! they were jewish .... / i used to be catholic, and if anyone wore a peace sign , they were told to remove it! i know that catholics find peace to be offensive as well
Its only a good idea to alienate half of your customer base if all your competitors are doing likewise.
Which half are they alienating?
@@jonathanhacon1does it really matter which half?
Just remember BLACKROCK........
Anna, would you please talk to me about how we should support the Palestinians, but I remember the response of the Palestinians to 9/11… I think it would actually be intellectually honest if you show that and respond to it by convincing some of us Americans why we should forget that and support them..
wtf, how do they think they have a right to defy ownership? They literally own the company. This would be like Twitter suing elon musk.
Ice cream should not be supporting terrorists
Cenk "They want to squelch on it".
I think he meant "welch on the deal"
As always, the elephant in the room is capitalism. What is capitalism? Its defining characteristic is NOT free markets for final goods and services. It is the labor market: the renting of human beings as if they were things, in order to use them to produce final goods and services, of which the surplus (well, the monetary value of it) goes to the employer. The employer acts as a despot in the workplace. Zero democracy there. Even though everyone working there is responsible for the costs incurred and the value created, only the employer has the legal rights and responsibilities. And the employer completes against other employers for market share and critical resources, leading to the anarchic development of the system over time. War is one of the results. At its core, it is a lack of democracy in the workplace, where all economic value is created.
Perfect analysis
It’s a corpocracy where these robber barons threaten anyone that wants to challenge their abusive practices
Its nice to see one corporation standing up for peace all the while our elected officials are aiding and abetting peace.
The problem with your argument is that the last thing Palestinians want is peace. Imagine the UK voting in ISIS. That'd be peace they were after?
Its a company....they're not a force for good, they're pushing fattening processed food
I mean if we really look at what's going on in this country these days we're butting heads left and right a lot of companies are doing this, corporate people are arguing left and right I truly believe that if things keep progressing with the way they're going we're going back to the days of the mob, I mean back then if the Italians in the unions you know anybody was bad-mouthing them they just show up and people go bye-bye, they disappear off the face of the planet I mean people are getting really angry lately, I don't think Ben & Jerry's is going to go this route but they make a lot of money and they're involved in a lot of things especially New England, that's a massive company, supposed to be family friendly but what do I know lol if I were the people responsible for the operations of Ben & Jerry I would be very careful if I were them.
LOL. Who do they think runs their parent company and the legal system?
funny, word "peace" is banned in Russia too now
Yeah so is war. Nice try
Maybe Tolstoy is banned
Businesses should just stay out of politics.
Well, then, so should idiot commenters on TH-cam.
Brilliant. Citizen's United would like a word.
It’s impossible to stay out of politics bc everything is political. Even silence is a political statement. Silence is an endorsement of the status quo.
They should just come out with Oct 7 flavour.
Notre sure if people realize but the only other ben and jerry's plant outside of the US is in Israel, which would cause problems for Unilever's bottom line. I hope this gets figured out because me job is dependent on ben and jerry's staying in operation.
In Sweden there's a new suggestion that immigrants have to aknowledge Israels right to exist in order to qualify for citizenship.
Not check for antisemitism which we of course dont want in this country, no Israel specifically.
Sweden still hasn’t woken up. Just say no more!
Sweden went from being one of the safest countries in Europe to being one of the least safe in just a generation. Due to its immigration policies. Its trying to stymie that direction of travel but may likely be too late. You can verify this with a Google search.
Can I eat Ben and Jerry's ice cream now or not?
1:07 A threat to "dismember"...
Unilever is European, far too based for a hippie company like B&J.
Unilever ceo and board member are all Jewish.
Not very based to crush freedom of speech. You must hate freedom
You can afford Ben n Jerry?

Me too, theirs and mcconnells
Well, Ben & Jerry's wouldn't be in this situation if it didn't sell out to Unilever for the money grubbing in the first place.
Get in to bed with other people and things get complicated...
They didn't want to sell out.
The shareholders did it.
But even still, they chose to be woke.
@@AquarianNomadic "Didn't want to sell out..."
It doesn't matter because they *_did_* sell out... Ben & Jerry's now answers to the shareholders of Unilever. And if the shareholders feel B&J activism on *any* topic position hurts profits or the brand, well, too bad for B&J.
Well, Ben & Jerry sold their brand to the corporation in 2000. If they wanted to keep control of what they say for the brand, they shouldn't have sold out.
They were bought, that's not the same thing
@@marioozzie If they want to be the owners again, I'm sure the corporation is willing to sell the brand back if the price is right.
Talk about censorship……
Why can’t Corporations stay out of issues that are considered or related to controversial things. Corporations don’t have minds of their own- they shouldn’t be taking any stance. If executives want to push their views, do it personally- stop using the Company.
There’s a term for it in marketing textbooks: “cause marketing”. It’s a way to differentiate your product by selling an idea that by buying your brand, you’re making the world better. The actual benefit to the world is often minimal or temporary. It’s appealing to people because it takes no effort vs. doing something real such as volunteering. It usually doesn’t cost the company very much. See also: slacktivism & virtue signalling.
Ben & Jerry. Get over yourselves. You make ice cream.
Someone has to point out obvious warcrimes, and none of your politicians or news seem capable of pointing out that Palestinians have been massacred. Thank god someone is trying at least
Your name is Joey Boboey. Get over yourself you have a clown name.
Boycott Unilever..
Unilever has always been EVIL, some examples... How ethical is Unilever?
Our research highlights several ethical issues with Unilever, including boycott calls over its continued operations in Russia, criticism for use of “highly-polluting” plastic packaging, and allegations of sexual abuse in its Kenyan supply chains.
Nah, even if its for a good cause business need to stay out. For 1 business with good intentions 900 business use all these movements that they have no stakes on and dont fully understand to manipulate people for profits. A lot of the times its just an advertisement opportunity to them. Instead of using the company the people complaining can go support privately as individuals.
squelch = button on an angrc10 - you "welsh" on a deal
That’s laughable considering Ben And Jerry’s sells their products in Israel.
Not really. There are a lot of Israelis that oppose this conflict.. This will probably be the end for Netanyahu.
Anna you’re looking really beautiful these days, and I think it’s thanks to Ben Shapiro who slipped you a little red pill :-)

Unilever executives don’t want their ice cream brand to be BudLight-ed and I don’t blame them. When sales drop, real people get hurt with hours cut and layoffs. I notice B&J never takes on the cause of lowering prices to help poor people afford their products.
Bet Palestine doesn’t have Ben and Jerry’s..
Ben & Jerry's no longer wanted its ice cream to be sold in parts of Palestine illegally occupied by Israelis including the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
YES peace was controversial on October 8th!!!
🍨🍦🐙
Yes Ana, publicly calling for Hamas to remain in power is controversial.
Trash comprehension skills.
If you're just going to make up stuff like that, then you can make it as controversial as you like.
Elon Musk taking sexual advantage of Donald Trump every day for the past month is controversial.
Peace does not necessarily imply that Hamas will remain in power. Peace will allow a general election to be held, which might remove Hamas from power. Peace is a better bet at removing Hamas, than Netanyahu's genocidal war, which is only strengthening Hamas' hold on Gaza. Israelis should listen to the former head of Shin Bet - Ami Ayalon. If the people elect Hamas, then that is their democratic choice, which must be accepted and respected. You can only make peace by negotiating with your enemies.
