Dude i really enjoy your videos. Your viewpoints and notes are for the most part on point (coming from a New Zealand American I guess you are 😜) Keep up the good work. My view on the no 10 spot. It's pollard/SFM then Jordan Hendriks and maybe libbok if one of those 3 are injured. Cheers mate
I think I agree with your #10 assessment. So curious how it will play out for the rest of the World Cup cycle and who will stake the claim as the best pivot. Thanks for the kind words and for watching the vids 🙏🏼
Great channel Julian. Think we need to start towards the end of next year settle on a first choice team, and get them to play together more often like NZ of 2011/2015. Keep up the great work from Cape Town.
Thanks for a comprehensive and objective overview Julian. I just hope the Wallabies can put up decent competition next year. I rate Andy Farrel very highly as a coach, so the Lions will be hard to beat. Totally agree with your observations about the ABs - it's been a long tour for them - five tests vs SA's three... By the way, I'm SA born but a 110% AB supporter!
That’s awesome! I’ve been to SA many times and always blown away by the All Blacks support. 😊 let’s hope Joe Schmidt can work some magic with the Wallabies so it isn’t just a total whitewash. Lions are looking ominous at the moment!
Yay. Thank you! That is so nice to hear. Yes, I reckon that’s a great combo. Williams is my fave SA #9. I think Pollard backing up a young gun in coming years makes a lot of sense but he’s still THE clutch player.
I am not surprised the Boks put up a bigger score. Putting in huge scores on a team the way the AB's do is not really in their make-up. The full-on fluid running high scoring game requires extremely fluent and accurate ball handling skills, team interplay and cohesiveness. South African teams historically tend to emphasize aggressive defence, physicality, tactical kicking, simplicity and speed. As soon as the Boks push the their limits in terms of open play they move out of their comfort zone make too many mistakes.
Sacha and Pollard going through to 2027 world cup for me. I think Manie and Hendriks will be backup in case of injury. Manie still struggling to deal with pressure imo and I see no reason to push Hendriks when you have Pollard and Sacha.
Sacha & Pollard same big inside centre players that can kick 80-90% that can run through weak teams .Sacha unknown which allowed him the freedom to play just like Pollard when he started as a young unknown player.Manie still playing very conservative .Just like DM he can attack the opposition defensive line but we haven't seen it cause kicking for poles is considered first priority for flyhalf in SA
Our biggest risk at 9 and 10 is we didn’t pick consistently in these positions in 2024. This might work against the players. Pollard is still the king at 10 but I’m concerned about his age. Sasha will probably be second at the moment but he can be over confident. Look at how the Irish turnover that led to the drop goal came about. He also gave the ball to the New Zealanders in Cape Town towards the end of the game. Hendrikse will get his chances. But id say he is our 3rd best. Mannie has had his chances. I feel he didn’t prove his critics wrong. So he is 4th at the moment. At 9 we are in trouble. I am worried that no one seems to be taking their chances. I’m even thinking, where is Hershel Jantjies at this stage. Hendrikse is not giving us much. He looks slow and clumsy at times. Very predictable. You know he is either going to pass or kick an up and under. Reinach is 34. He played vs. Australia (replaced at 52) and New Zealand in Johannesburg (replaced at 42), Argentina in Santiago del Estero (replaced at 54) and came on as a sub in Mbombela. He had enough chances but disappointedly, I can’t say he grabbed them. Williams is our impact player. When he and Kwagga come one, the games change. He performed well last week at Twickeham and I hoped he’d be picked this week vs Wales, he was dropped. Faf is also getting old. Maybe we need to give Morné more chances.
SA top team. French #2. 3/4 AB and Irish a toss up. England were very smooth in the last game. Can’t wait for the 2025 season. Can’t see the Boks being toppled from the Top spot yet.
When do France and South Africa play each other again, if they were to play this week, I'd have France by 3 points, a big forward pack, mobile and highly underrated while the backs, with DuPont leading, are a class act with pace out wide, they are more than a match for the current World Cup holders...
Right? After this tour that seems like the most mouth watering match up in international rugby. Seems like the northern tour one year from now would be the soonest for that game.
@JulianShawofficial absolutely brother, the two are similar in that they both pack the power and the passion, although contrasting issues are what sparked my initial interest, in 1980 I think , NZ toured France and Serge Blanco was thier fullback lynchpin and he carved us up badly, the guile and the speed of there play was sublime, they had flair and flamboyance and they also became unpredictable, that aspect the All Blacks know very well, around about the same time South Africa was going through apartheid and a lot of us kiwis in 1981 probably never knew the outcome when the Boks arrived on our shores, protests, flour bombs, cancellations, we just wanted to watch rugby, I for one wasn't even sure where South Africa was, only that Africa had hot deserts and wild animals 🇳🇿🇳🇿🇲🇫🇿🇦🇲🇫🇿🇦🇳🇿🇳🇿 happy days...
Boks were innacurate all year and still won. Lost 2 games by 1 point in the last minute of both games. Rassie will keep rotating next year then settle on combinations a couple years out. Will probably find him resting his big boys to get them to 2027. Jayden Hendrikse at 9 isn't the answer. Just passes and doesn't attack the gainkine hence we didn't blow out Wales further as ot was all predictable from the base of rucks. Great year nevertheless.
Good point England have - “fallen short of potential the most”! Conversely, Pumas and Wallabies exceeded expectations. Boks and ABs delivered pretty much per expectations overall?
"Plucky" mm? Scotland are top 5 now and could dismantle any team with their attack, it may be depth they lack whereas Australia just look done. England vs Japan, both teams achieved 6 clean breaks, it's just that England's finishing was that much sharper. Great content as usual, thanks Julian
I think Mannie is showing signs of fixing his kicking for goal. He will need that fixed as it looks like the pressure for the no 10 is getting heated. Sfm is the generational tallent but Tassie will make them all fight for it. We need 3 deep in each of the 15 starters preferably 4 deep.
I am a South African, and you make sense when talking about the 10s..a core focus group is needed to invest time in…Especially Jordan and Sacha..they need time in order to get to a Manie and maybe Pollard level for 2027 WC…investing game minutes into players that will not be used in the 2027 WC would be wasteful..I’ll invest in Sacha over Manie and Jordan.
I suspect Rassie will get more focused going forward. Seems his agenda was growing the talent pool this year and it’s hard to fault him when the Bokke are still winning 👏🏼
Top 10 is Sacha...and will be the one to lead us into the future at 10...backed by Hendrickse. Pollard only has a couple of years left...but will provide invaluable to mentoring the two youngsters.
I tend to think Pollard can make it to 2027 but I think he may be better on the bench to steer the Bokke home at that point. Sasha looks the goods to me and even if there are some rough edges, he appears to have the most upside.

Definitely impressive to win with such heavy rotation. But a more settled team would have yielded better results. I don’t think that’s what Rassie is looking for right now though.
The All Blacks have become a great at home team! But seem a little mediocre overseas??? I think this team is learning that curve being a psychological fired up performers when away from home. I think that Rassie should only focus on Pollard and Hendrikse for this world cup. Manie is brilliant but only in moments and the springboks really function better with a steady ship at 10. Hendrikse is better suited for that role and is showing great signs of confidence and improvement. Mngomezulu can be an injury backup and utility back.

Waited All Weekend for this...
Yay!
scotland made aus look pedestrean. scottish can turn it up
Yes. They actually played really well against SA too but there was just a gulf in class when it came to finishing opportunities.
Not exactly a challenging series for the Springboks. They should have played France and Ireland.
Yes. It’s true that they had an easier schedule than NZ and Aus.
All black on holiday already 😂
The only mistake you make is the mistake of doing absolutely nothing. When you don't contribute at all, that's the real mistake in all truth.
If Razor dont revamp Get new 10 to add to D mac, 12 and 13 , not Barrette or Havili, we will sing same storry, the ALL BLACKS WERE TO EMOTIONAL AGAINST ITALY. I WISH NORTHERN CLUB CAN BUY BARRETTES AND HAVILI
Agree. 10, 12 & 13 Razors biggest problem
Razor working on Mo’unga eligibility. Would certainly be a game changer if NZ switches up their rules.
@@JulianShawofficial but I think AB NOT EVEN YET TESTED DOMESTIC. GIVE LAM PROCTOR LOVE ETC OTHER LOCAL GUYS A CHANCE. @@RexJebamoneyit is and there are wow guys availible from domestic
What happened to the Aussies? Well....their flash in the pan of form is now over and they're back to being as crap as they always were. LOL
They can look good one weekend and then super rough the next. Consistency remains their Achilles heel.
@@JulianShawofficial Sadly in the last couple of years their poor matches have heavily outnumbered the good. World rugby needs a strong Wallaby side...it's a poorer place without it.
