Good for you Maddie for not backing down and standing up for yourself. It's a shame that a female can't go into a car dealership and buy what she wants without getting the run around. pro tip when buying a car: try not to tell them how you're paying, or how much of a down payment you wanna make until the end, when you agree on a price. At that point, they can't add a bunch of fees

cash is king when buying a car and offering a cash in hand "bonus" to find a great deal doesn't hurt either. The manager makes his sale and the salesperson has been incentivized to keep going.

Hey Maddie! I would recommend a Honda or Toyota if you’re looking for something reliable! For mid-size I’d do a Toyota RAV-4 or Honda CR-V. Honda has a certified pre-owned program. Also, I would absolutely not get a loan through the dealership if getting a loan. Get a loan through a credit union for the best possible interest rate!

As a 19 year old girl, if you can afford to pay outright/with cash I would for sure do that. I just bought a used Ford from the dealership and instead of financing and paying interest I just decided to pay for it in full so I wouldn’t have to worry about payments and interest. I would also recommend more reliable cars. I owned an Audi before and it was so unreliable and ALWAYS needed work. Buying from a dealership is good because most of the time they have warranties but be careful because some will rush you into buying or rip you off. Remember you can always try to negotiate with them! ❤️

@@Mscookiemonstahh1 I agree! I feel that you don’t just get a car that’s already had ho much paid on it for you? From your kid.. YES it’s in your name, cool.. But you didn’t have the 15,000$ down and then 2-3 years paying on it. I believe she said her mom helped with 5,000$ from an older car she had, to put towards a down payment.. I know everyone has different opinions, and I’m not trying to debate on who is right or wrong. What could have been done different, etc.. But she was a minor from the get go. Idc if she was making $250,000 a year, or $50,000 a year.. I would still have steered her in the right direction.. alot of dealerships will put someone in a brand new car (that year usually) they don’t want to give certain people ‘older cars’ I don’t believe Maddies mom had the best credit like everyone is claiming.. The Jeep Sam has, is in his name. And I’m sure just as expensive as Maddies. As well as they have a mortgage payment right now too. So, that is another reason why it was put in the mother’s name. They have a lot of debt to income ratio. Very expensive vehicles/loans etc. Anyway all that to say, I don’t think it’s right that she just take it and leave it at that.. Yes it would do some damage to have it repod. But she also has been paying a good amount, every single month, for 3 years.. She didn’t start getting late on payments until recently. & As they’ve said, it wasn’t an every month thing (not saying it’s okay) but Maddie paying on that car for 36 months, helped her moms credit and ‘reliability’ I just feel something should be figured out between the two. Yes I get her mom has to make the payments now, and I’m sure she can’t afford to pay the payment. And a payment to Maddie each month either.. I feel that’s a big chunk to lose out on. & I do agree others, I’m sure she cares more about the relationship with her parents.. BUT that’s how certain things have gotten to the points they have.. Maddie having good money at a young age, paying and helping and showering people it’s gifts& things we don’t even know about. But I can imagine a I’ve been Maddie, with my mom.. & it leads to more depression & hurt.. You never feel good enough..

Also pretend your dressing for a job interview and they will treat you better. I'm sorry about it but the patriarchy still runs the car industry. because they look down on people who wear jeans and t shirts. also the banks WON'T finance a vehicle more than 10 years old. Yes it's frustrating but it's nothing you can't handle. trust me I asked them to Finance a 2006 Chrysler 300 touring edition and NO banks wanted to finance me. It's not you, it's the CAR. if you don't pay it off the bank has to have collateral. that being the vehicle.

@@jennifermichelle5020 Maddie's main problem was that someone in her family got her her dream car on their credit and then took it away without allowing Maddie to legally acquire said vehicle. They took her for a ride. She paid more than $15,000 on a Jeep that she would never legally own, they allowed her to believe it was hers. it was never hers, nor would it ever be hers. She said herself that in all the payments she made - it didn't affect the principal balance on the loan abd it was only paying interest. That Jeep was nice while it lasted, I hope she had good memories with it, but at this point Maddie I think it's in your best interest to find a car in your price range that you can afford and that will not drown you in debt. $15,000-$20,000 for a family sedan or a small compact SUV for a woman your age with a daughter in tow is more than enough and right now is all you could ever need.

Maddie is a mature young woman and the amount she was making in payments on that Jeep was way more than she could afford, she said herself that some of the payments were late and there were a couple times she thought it was going to be repossessed. No 17-19 year old mother needs to live a stressed out life in fear that her vehicle is going to be taken away at any point.

Salesmen are all paid differently depending on the dealership. A lot of time they are paid on margin. So if they pay $2000 for a car and sell it for $10,000, their commission is on the difference of $8k. Cheaper cars don’t necessarily mean they’re getting less commission. Some dealerships pay a flat rate commission no matter what the price is.
Also, it’s true about banks liking newer less used cars. The car is collateral for the bank. If you miss payments and they repossess it, the bank can make their money back by selling the car. If you have an old car and add more miles to it, it’s less likely that the bank will be able to make the full loan amount back. You can also buy newer and do a long 7 year note bc the bank knows it will hold value. A car with 150k miles wouldn’t last 7 years, so they’re likely to offer only shorter loan terms.
Basically, old cars are higher risk for the bank to do loans on. Hope this helps!

Don't forget to look at the cars car fax! Most dealerships will have them available. It's important to see that the car was regularly serviced by the previous owners, you would be surprised how many people go YEARS without getting their car serviced which means problems in the long run. Also you're able to see if the car was frequently driven. Remember low milage doesnt always necessarily mean a good thing it could mean that the car was sitting in the garage for a year and the car fax will show you how many milage was put on it and what year. It'll also show you if the car has been in any reported accidents and if it's a salvage. I suggest trying to get a car with a clean title
My husband purchased a 2012 Prius plug in with 68k miles for 13k and honestly we looked through a lot of prius plug ins and had to pass up on them because we didn't like the way their car fax looked. The one we ended up getting showed that it was driven the average amount of miles a year and that it was REGULARLY serviced. good luck :) if you feel someone is being too pushy dont be afraid to just walk away.

If they ignore it… That’s the quickest way to set me off get in my car and drive away.
