@@nausadalam2855 It is about team achievement. Football is a team game after all. And Sneijder was more successful in Champions League and the World Cup whilst Messi was confined to La Liga. And on top of that, Sneijder's Inter knocked out Messi's Barca 😉 Sneijder assisting in the first leg 😉😉
Ballon d'or - Point based criteria (10min read) A very interesting proposition for winning the ballon d'or. Since it's an individual award we should consider individual performance. Since an individual's aim and responsibility is to win trophies for their club or nation, we should consider trophies as well. Alright, so this is how points would be awarded for players from different positions, / Attacker = (goals + assists)/2 Midfielder = (goals + assists) Defender = (goals + assists)*1.5 + (no. of clean sheets)/4 Goal keeper = (no. of clean sheets)/1.5 / (The reason why I chose to divide the no. of clean sheets by 1.5 instead of 2 for gk is that, if we divide the number by 2 then it's very hard for a goalkeeper to compete with players from other positions, at the same time I simply can't consider no. of clean sheets alone because as the defense can also be a factor for keeping clean sheets) (The reason why goals + assists is multiplied by 1.5 instead of 2 for defenders is that they also have another criteria to gain points which is no. of clean sheets, and why no. of clean sheets is divided by 4 is that having a clean sheet is also dependent on his fellow defenders and gk) Note : stats are considered for all official matches both with club and country, qualifiers are not considered. Let's be realistic, since the game revolves around goals it's only logical to consider goals and assists stats. Also it won't be realistic to calculate other stats like, tackles made for defenders, key passes made by midfielders. That's why only no. of clean sheets is considered which is a result of all these defensive actions and also a goal scored by a defender is given more value than an attacker or midfielder. Similarly a goal scored or assisted by a midfielder is given more value than an attacker. Also, when considering titles won, big trophies must be given significance, namely the UCL, league title and major international trophy. The points are given as follows, / UCL, World cup - 10 Other international trophies - 8 (Nations league and finalissima trophies worth 6 points, since they are not full fledged tournaments in Europe) League title - 6 Other domestic titles, tournaments - 2 each. / This way, we can longer say that a player is disabled because of his nationality. For example it's hard for Lewandowski to win a trophy with poland, which is 8 points. But he can compensate that by scoring or assisting 16 times. (16/2=8 points) Note : In case of a tie in points, the player who has won the most individual awards should be considered the winner (for example, the golden boot, player of the season, best player, gk of the tournament, etc..) Now there's a question of whether to consider a season or calendar year performance. In my opinion I would consider based on a season. It's only logical to do so, because all league and tournament in football is played over a season and not calendar year. Let's see the most controversial Ballon d'or wins in recent years. / 2021 : Stats of 2020/21 season is considered. Messi - 67 goals + assist, which is 67/2 = 33.5 points. Trophies : Copa America(8), Copa del Rey(2). Points = 8+2=10. Total points = 43.5. Lewandowski - 76 goals + assist, which is 76/2 = 38 points. Trophies : Bundesliga(6), CWC(2), supercup(2). Points = 10. Total points = 48. Jorginho only gets 29 points, majority of which due to trophies. He loses in individual goal contributions. Yes he's a dmf, but every assist or penalty he converts is twice as valuable as Lewandowski or Messi's. Still he had very low numbers or Lewandowski had very impressive numbers. Lewandowski 48 - Messi 43.5 If you consider CWC as previous season's trophy, still Lewandowski gets 46 points and just beats Messi. Even though Messi had an advantage playing for Argentina and winning Copa America, Lewandowski's impressive individual stats won it for him. 2019 : Alisson - 39.3 ( won copa America, UCL and clean sheets) if he had 8 more clean sheets or won any other titles, he would've won the award. So there's no gk bias. Van Dijk - 37.5 points (If he had won the nations league then he would've had a chance, but Messi's numbers were too good to give him the edge even though he only won the league) Messi - 43.5 points. If you use the same calculations : Messi would've deserved to win it in 2010. (Iniesta actually had poor stats for barca that season and missed games due to injury, he contributed for the WC mainly. Only in 2009 Iniesta had his best performances for barca) Ronaldo would've won it in 2018 (Modric had significantly less goals contributions that season) But very interestingly in 2018, Ronaldo and Messi both comes very close. Ronaldo 44 and Messi 42 points. Clearly deserved 1st and 2nd place, Unlike in real ranking where Messi was placed 5th. Ronaldo would've lost it in 2013 : Ronaldo = 75 goals+assist = 37.5 points. Ribery = 44 goals+assist = 22 points. But Ribery won UCL (10), Bundesliga (6), CWC, German cup and uefa supercup (6 points) So in total Ribery had, 22+10+6+6 = 44 points. / Now, there could be a lot of fine tuning done to these criteria (like every goal in a final or WC has extra point) if time, money and technology is spent into this. After all it won't even be a big effort for France football or any other organization to make this system using advanced metrics as in modern football every stats are recorded with ease. I know changes won't happen any time sooner. But it's just a fantasized look on how would things work if the world was fair! I would love if you made a video on this and let the fans know, there could actually be a logical and statistical way to find the best player each season.
Completely agree. I've been saying for years that there should be a Goalkeeper, Defender, Midfielder, and Attacker award. It's why I felt bad for Modric when the Messi & Ronaldo fans went after him after he won. It wasn't about Modric per say, but I was happy that FINALLY they had recognized a non-scoring player. It still pains me to know that Pirlo never won the award. That alone should tell you all you need to know.
I heard a pundit suggest that the ballon dor should be a one per person award. I think this is a great idea as this gives more opportunities for players to win and maybe increase the chances of having mids and defenders win more. It’s not perfect but I like the idea and it seems the most realistic.
I think there's a reason why people, including me, don't really pay attention to the Ballon d'Or too much, just sheerly due to the mainstream/face-value feel of winning the trophy, even if it has its own history and pedigree. I agree that there should be more specific trophies instead of the all-round one we see with the Ballon d'Or, like you said.
I think they should make it something like this: An award for best overall player An award for the best offensive player An award for the best defensive player And voting should be done by media(33.3%) players (33.3%) coaches (33.3%)
I like the idea of the different positional awards but just opens up more problems with the different types of each positions- wing backs, fullbacks and centre backs are all very different as are defensive or attacking midfielders. What about people that play multiple positions? Are wingers counted as midfielders or forwards? The main problem I can see is club allegiances leading to tactical voting. Great videos, thank you Raymar
Some are proud for liking the video before even watching it . I mean u r judging something u didn't even see. Constructive criticism is better than blindly liking stuff.
Ballon D'or 2020 was cancelled because it's a French award and there was no French league this season. Many other leqgues were cancelled as well so they thought it wasn't fair and cancelled the award entirely. And keep uploading consistently Raymar. You're doin great 👍
even before the covid cancellations, they and we all knew it's Lewy's loss. thankfully the season resumes and achieved winning the treble only solidifies Lewy's chances which is, of course not a popular decision to make for the bias boys at bDor. but if PSG won the champion's league i think, they might push for it to be reopened.
French farmers had a chance to win Balon d’Or based on theirs performance in “league farmers” when Lewa was winning every possible trophy that season with Munich being the best player of his team!? Explain more!
FIFA Player of the Year vs Ballon d'Or selections 1994 - Romario vs Stoichkov 1996 - Ronaldo vs Sammer 2000 - Zidane vs Figo 2001 - Figo vs Owen 2003 - Zidane vs Nedved 2004 - Ronaldinho vs Shevchenko it's so ridiculous how anybody can take the Ballon d'Or seriously when they see these selections vs the FIFA Player of the Year selections...The FPOTY or Now FIFA's Best should be seen as the TRUE award since it has always been more accurate and far less biased...I truly wish going forward people see FIFA's Best award as the one with the most prestige.
It's crazy when you have top notch players who had never won it! Another sad thing is the fact that it only selects from top clubs. So a best player from a small club will never win Ballon D'Or - in this instance am talking about someone like Jay Jay Okocha who I believe should have won...let alone Thierry Henry.
I really like the idea of having a golden glove award for goalkeepers and a golden stop award for the best defender.. you are so right.. each of these positions plays such an important part of the game.
There should be awards for every respective position. Goalkeepers already have their onw "Bes Goalkeeper of the World" award. There should be golden defender, golden midfielder and golden striker award instead of the ballon d'or
Narratives can be factors in voting for awards. You mentioned the Zidane and Figo race, and the Modric/Ronaldo race. A few examples I can offer from the NBA is Russell Westbrook winning over James Harden, and Lebron James contending for the award alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo.
It was aldready many years back as european goalkeeper of the year then iffhs best goalkeeper then to lev yashin award on his 90th birthday but it is still not considered as level of ballon d or becsuse alisson was 7th in the ballon d or ranking even after winning it
The Balon Dor list all credibility for me when Beckham didn't get it in 1999 after winning a fucking treble. Seriously. He didn't get it after winning a treble.
Ballon d'or is not technical. It's about who have the most influential commercial success of the year. It's basically who is the poster boy for the year
@@chetanmagar1197 Not saying Ronaldo didnt deserve it. But Ribery had good numbers too. He is not even the same type of winger for Bayern as Ronaldo was for Real. That being said, Ribery was instrumental in Bayern's first Treble. I could understand if it was just a UCL title, but he had a treble to back great stats. I would argue Robben was better than Ribery, but either way. There is a good argument against it.
If the Balondor was given to the best individual performer of the year then Messi should have 8 Balondors, Ronaldo should have 4 and Luis Suarez should have 1 also.

Its not that Ronaldo didn't win, because honestly if Messi won I wouldn't have complained or heck even Mbappe or Griezman would've been better, its that's somehow out of all the possible choices, MODRIC was the winner, like what!? Seriously what argument is there, Champions League? Cristiano Ronaldo won that and played better that season while carrying them to the final. Overall stats? Messi deserved that. World Cup Winners? Griezman and Mbappe who both had 4 goals each in the world cup and both had really good seasons. Just how?
Couldn't agree more! Rewards for all the positions (GK, DF, MF, FW), plus one for the best player (MVP). And all that by universal pre-set evaluation standards
Couldn't agree more. An individual award in a team sport given by journalist only brings unnecesary discussion and pointless rivalry between football fans

Even in 2018 Messi has more goals, more assists, won pichichi, European golden boot, best playmaker of the year, but you fanboy think Ronaldo should won.. Lmao.. Stop pretend like a priest when you're a more fanboy inside..
Ill destry your argument without getting into the messi ronaldo award. The ballon dor is given to the most effective player over a year. In 2017 ronaldo scored 16 goals in 11 UCL games. Aswel as scoring 1 in the spanish supercup. Messi scored 3 goals in 10 UCL games, scored a pen in the supercup. And created less chances than neymar throughout the season. So yesh ron deserved it
The true problem with it and other awards similar is the criteria. "What does is it mean to be the best?" A question that the Ballon Dor never answers. For the golden boot easy most goals, playmaker of the year easy most assists, golden glove that's child's play most clean sheets. People talk a lot about journalist biases but little about coach and player bias. Just two examples are Messi and Ronaldo. Messi has voted for Ronaldo in his top 3 players in the world just 2 times and Ronaldo has never placed Messi there since he began voting. Instead both their lists are filled with International and Club teammates. In 2012 Messi scored 91 goals, he was unreal and surely at the very least was one of the top 3 players in the world right?...well no. Ronaldo, this ain't Ronaldo hate he's just the most famous example, and many other players and coaches still couldn't find space for him in their top 3 that year. I think some even left him out of their top 5!? If that didn't warrant an investigation on the abuse of cocaine in the footballing world I don't know what would😂. This isn't just Messi and Ronaldo with bias it's all over football. Of course journalism bias also comes in and the popularity of the player and a player doing well in a handful of games, usually the knockout rounds of UCL and world cup, erasing the memories of the entire year. We are lucky that these mistakes and biases are largely covered up by the time all the votes are cast, but if the Ballon Dor had a clear criteria on what actually constitutes the best player such biases could be almost eradicated because it would be clear who should win and anyone who voted otherwise was clearly too biased. You can't argue with a golden boot winner because they scored the most goals so of course they deserved it, but this doesn't happen with the Ballon Dor and it leaves the door open for people to vote based on nothing but bias. Placing rules over voters could help keep them accountable for who they choose because now they're restricted and are no longer free to let their bias in. Biases will most likely still affect winners but rankings will at least be better and more consistent.

The reason as to why neither iniesta and xavi won the ballondor is that xavi had a slightly above average season and andres iniesta was injured for majority of the year except the World Cup. Messi was left mostly un-injured so he had the highest performance and won the ballon’dor
2000,2001,2003, and 2018 have to be the worst Ballond'or decisions ever
2010 should've went to Wesley Sneijder
a. babatunde Why? Messi had both more goals and assist.
@@aq8048 Wesley Sneijder won the Treble and World Cup finalist. 0 goals in the World Cup for Messi.
@@a.demifemiflapo5795 messi also won the league was laliga best player Ballondor is about personal achievement not team achievement.

Ballon d'or - Point based criteria (10min read)
A very interesting proposition for winning the ballon d'or.
Since it's an individual award we should consider individual performance.
Since an individual's aim and responsibility is to win trophies for their club or nation, we should consider trophies as well.
Alright, so this is how points would be awarded for players from different positions,
/
Attacker = (goals + assists)/2
Midfielder = (goals + assists)
Defender = (goals + assists)*1.5 + (no. of clean sheets)/4
Goal keeper = (no. of clean sheets)/1.5
/
(The reason why I chose to divide the no. of clean sheets by 1.5 instead of 2 for gk is that, if we divide the number by 2 then it's very hard for a goalkeeper to compete with players from other positions, at the same time I simply can't consider no. of clean sheets alone because as the defense can also be a factor for keeping clean sheets)
(The reason why goals + assists is multiplied by 1.5 instead of 2 for defenders is that they also have another criteria to gain points which is no. of clean sheets, and why no. of clean sheets is divided by 4 is that having a clean sheet is also dependent on his fellow defenders and gk)
Note : stats are considered for all official matches both with club and country, qualifiers are not considered.
The points are given as follows,
/
UCL, World cup - 10
Other international trophies - 8 (Nations league and finalissima trophies worth 6 points, since they are not full fledged tournaments in Europe)
League title - 6
Other domestic titles, tournaments - 2 each.
/
This way, we can longer say that a player is disabled because of his nationality. For example it's hard for Lewandowski to win a trophy with poland, which is 8 points. But he can compensate that by scoring or assisting 16 times. (16/2=8 points)
Note : In case of a tie in points, the player who has won the most individual awards should be considered the winner (for example, the golden boot, player of the season, best player, gk of the tournament, etc..)
Now there's a question of whether to consider a season or calendar year performance.
In my opinion I would consider based on a season. It's only logical to do so, because all league and tournament in football is played over a season and not calendar year.
Let's see the most controversial Ballon d'or wins in recent years.
/
2021 :
Stats of 2020/21 season is considered.
Messi - 67 goals + assist, which is 67/2 = 33.5 points.
Trophies : Copa America(8), Copa del Rey(2).
Points = 8+2=10.
Total points = 43.5.
Lewandowski - 76 goals + assist, which is 76/2 = 38 points.
Trophies : Bundesliga(6), CWC(2), supercup(2).
Points = 10.
Lewandowski 48 - Messi 43.5
If you consider CWC as previous season's trophy, still Lewandowski gets 46 points and just beats Messi.
Even though Messi had an advantage playing for Argentina and winning Copa America, Lewandowski's impressive individual stats won it for him.
2019 :
Alisson - 39.3 ( won copa America, UCL and clean sheets) if he had 8 more clean sheets or won any other titles, he would've won the award. So there's no gk bias.
Van Dijk - 37.5 points (If he had won the nations league then he would've had a chance, but Messi's numbers were too good to give him the edge even though he only won the league)
Messi - 43.5 points.
If you use the same calculations :
Messi would've deserved to win it in 2010. (Iniesta actually had poor stats for barca that season and missed games due to injury, he contributed for the WC mainly. Only in 2009 Iniesta had his best performances for barca)
Ronaldo would've won it in 2018 (Modric had significantly less goals contributions that season)
But very interestingly in 2018, Ronaldo and Messi both comes very close. Ronaldo 44 and Messi 42 points. Clearly deserved 1st and 2nd place, Unlike in real ranking where Messi was placed 5th.
Ronaldo would've lost it in 2013 :
Ronaldo = 75 goals+assist = 37.5 points.
Ribery = 44 goals+assist = 22 points.
But Ribery won UCL (10), Bundesliga (6), CWC, German cup and uefa supercup (6 points)
So in total Ribery had, 22+10+6+6 = 44 points.
/
Now, there could be a lot of fine tuning done to these criteria (like every goal in a final or WC has extra point) if time, money and technology is spent into this.
You didn't mention Wesley Sneijder in the list of those who were robbed.
He didn't deserve it
@Anonymous Alley and? Individually Messi was far better
What about me my fans
Sneijder or Iniesta should have won that time.
@Anonymous Alley Explain me this:
Messi:
Goals 58
Assists 22
Dribbles 4.1 pg
PS% 85.7
Trophies 3
Sneijder:
Goals 6
Assits 16
Dribbles 0.7 pg
PS% 82.6
Trophies 4
I think there's a reason why people, including me, don't really pay attention to the Ballon d'Or too much, just sheerly due to the mainstream/face-value feel of winning the trophy, even if it has its own history and pedigree. I agree that there should be more specific trophies instead of the all-round one we see with the Ballon d'Or, like you said.
I think they should make it something like this:
An award for best overall player
An award for the best offensive player
An award for the best defensive player
And voting should be done by media(33.3%) players (33.3%) coaches (33.3%)
No players or coaches that's not fair
Just have different trophies for different positions
@@jayden6026 well, Players and Coaches know best who performed better than the others.
Ar rOe but they will obviously have a lot of bias
In that case you should call it the people’s award 😂
Even in the NBA we have best defensive player of the year, so I agree with you
I like the idea of the different positional awards but just opens up more problems with the different types of each positions- wing backs, fullbacks and centre backs are all very different as are defensive or attacking midfielders. What about people that play multiple positions? Are wingers counted as midfielders or forwards? The main problem I can see is club allegiances leading to tactical voting. even before the covid cancellations, they and we all knew it's Lewy's loss. thankfully the season resumes and achieved winning the treble only solidifies Lewy's chances which is, of course not a popular decision to make for the bias boys at bDor. but if PSG won the champion's league i think, they might push for it to be reopened.
Apropo Lewandowski & Ballond'or 2020, Ballond'or in general is a joke.
as if someone from the french league or any other cancelled leagues would've had a player to win it. lewondowski was undeniably the best player
French farmers had a chance to win Balon d’Or based on theirs performance in “league farmers” when Lewa was winning every possible trophy that season with Munich being the best player of his team!?

FIFA Player of the Year vs Ballon d'Or selections
1994 - Romario vs Stoichkov
1996 - Ronaldo vs Sammer
2000 - Zidane vs Figo
2001 - Figo vs Owen
2003 - Zidane vs Nedved
2004 - Ronaldinho vs Shevchenko
it's so ridiculous how anybody can take the Ballon d'Or seriously when they see these selections vs the FIFA Player of the Year selections...The FPOTY or Now FIFA's Best should be seen as the TRUE award since it has always been more accurate and far less biased...I truly wish going forward people see FIFA's Best award as the one with the most prestige.
Had Zidane not headbutted twice he would have won it in 2000 and maybe 2006
No; no loss; he wins his dignity and thats better.
2006🤣2000 i agree
It's crazy when you have top notch players who had never won it! Another sad thing is the fact that it only selects from top clubs. So a best player from a small club will never win Ballon D'Or - in this instance am talking about someone like Jay Jay Okocha who I believe should have won...let alone Thierry Henry.
I laughed so hard when he did that twist about the percentage of people who haven't subscribed
OOOOOF, I feel so bad that Lewandowski didn't win the Ballon d'or.
Messi should've won the Ballon d'or in 2016, 2017 and 2018, also. Dominating every conceivable individual metric.
There should be an award for each 4 main position: Goalkeeper, Defender, Midfielder, and Forwards
I dont think there should be and individual for mid and for...cuz sometimes fors play mid and mids play for
Yes; definitely.
When Raymar drops a video, you drop what you doing and click.
I really like the idea of having a golden glove award for goalkeepers and a golden stop award for the best defender.. you are so right.. each of these positions plays such an important part of the game.
There should be awards for every respective position. Goalkeepers already have their onw "Bes Goalkeeper of the World" award. There should be golden defender, golden midfielder and golden striker award instead of the ballon d'or
Ballon dor is biased

Stop pretend like a priest when you're a more fanboy inside..
And you are a Messi fanboy so what’s your point
Who
And don’t forget that Messi won the award for losing 8-2.
So yesh ron deserved it
Ronaldo was easily the best player in 2016 and 2017
The true problem with it and other awards similar is the criteria.
