Thank you for this reaction, this one is very personal for me. John was a dear friend and fellow airman assigned to a special mission unit. There is quite a bit more to this story most are unaware of and I urge you to seek it out. You can start by looking for an interview with Dan Schilling, who wrote the book, "Alone At Dawn" about John in cooperation with John's sister.
"No man is ever truly dead, so long as his name is spoken." You have helped with his remembrance. 'Til Valhalla Chappie.

I’m sorry for your loss! And seeing this viral video years ago I had SO many questions and knew there must be something much more to the story so I began looking up all I could finding an old documentary that talked to the AC-130 crew, some of the QRF and I believe the Team Leader and it only left me with more questions. I wasn’t there and can’t judge but I had to wonder why the USAF Combat Controller aggressively led the assault selflessly while the SEAL team seemed to really hold back, I understand suppressive fire and bounding but what I saw was John selflessly taking the initiative to get to Niel and put down the enemy firing on his team. I also feel upset that the Team Leader called for uncontrolled air strikes of 105 with John in bunker 1 but most of all you can see the team leader doesn’t get within 10-15 of John after he was hit so did he just make the call he was KIA without checking him ?? Seems TERRIBLE to me that he counted him KIA without being able to check and worse calling down 105 not knowing? I read that the MQ-9 was one of the first weaponized drones used and had 4 hellfires , couldn’t these have been used somehow to assist John in his final stand and help protect the inbound QRF Chinook? Why was this classified SO long? Becasue it made the SEALs look bad? Or becasue it took rediculously long to award John the Medal Of Honor with actual drone footage of THE most heroic actions I have EVER SEEN!!!!???? I read Hillary Clinton was an opposistiom force agaisnt him receiving the MOH???
My dad is a Vietnam Veteran and an Amputee losing his leg and when he saw this , aside from getting emotional he was upset and had a lot of questions also saying “The SEAL Team seemed to quickly abandon the Air Force Attachment really easily and the call for fire he just couldn’t understand, injured teamate or not.
I can’t make any judgements , I wasn’t there, but having done a lot of research I can’t ignore the obvious questions I feel whether it’s my business or not. I lost a very close friend of mine that was a Kiowa Pilot in Afghanistan served 6 deployments and 2 weeks after leaving the military for his wife and getting a job with the Division of Wildlife as a helicopter pilot he was tasked with a job by the state that put him in danger at night in canyons that had ridge crossing high power lines spanning valleys and given a flight pattern that we’ve found out had no mention of the power line he hit over 265 feet off the valley floor that killed him and a biologist. Surviving hell in Afghanistan and many close calls , AK rounds into his helicopter , and then leaves for his wife’s sanity and 2 damn weeks in a government pilot job he’s put into a task without everything /hazards being clearly known and he made 2 requests to RTB as it was dusk and unfamiliar mountain range but told to finish the task at hand and the state washed their hands of it immidately and talked to the FAA investigators suggesting he was not paying enough attention being used to combat operations and going DWR saying he must have beem too relaxed being out of the military and didnt take his new jobs risks as seriously as he should have . then theyve fought his wifes benefit claims every step of the way trying to get out of it putting him at fault. it all feels so f&cking wrong and it is and was and Johns situation seems like some things werent good but im so incredibly the book was wrote and this video was released amd by a combat controller that gets it. i wish hed do anothwr video going into the prior events as well.
Rest in True Peace Kohn Chapman!

I'm glad someone else suggested they look into the story some more and why it took so long for him to receive the medal. It's interesting, upsetting and.. disturbing. I'm incredibly glad he was finally recognized though. If Dan and John's sister hadn't bothered talking about it and just let it go.. who knows if he'd ever been recognized at all.

@@Mega-y5dHi. I read your text a few times and no, it wasn't confusing. It is like you are so excited to get it all out and can't say it fast enough, and I love it. I salute you for following your father and becoming a savior, if you will, to the American people. Your mindset is set to a 'save and not die' momentum. I can imagine the stress, no, stress isn't a 'big' enough word for what you and all combat soldiers face. Immence stress. hmm. Maybe. But what you DO is beyond words. YOU SAVE. I believe your watch holds a soul. No, I am not some hippie beatnik gypsy, but I do believe that you have your own guardian angel. I believe that your friend seeing that bug was God intervening in that moment for some reason or another. You, yourself has been saved, you have a purpose, a divine purpose. To continue to SAVE. Facing a bullet or several bullets is something my mind cannot even imagine, but you do. If it wasn't for YOU and your friends, I wouldn't be sitting here, in Colorado, looking up at Pikes Peak and drinking this coffee. I can't believe I am 'talking' with an actual savior who was in Afghanistan. Just knowing what you do, what you stand for and believe in, my heart swells with love and gratitude for you. Thank you. Thank you so, so much. You don't realize how much America loves you. You and your family, as well as all soldiers are in my prayers. I pray for your safety, protection, calmness of mind and spirit and that God continues to hold you in His Hands. Keep that watch close.

It is hard to believe heroism, bravery and a sense of brotherhood on a scale such as this exists, and yet, it does - in him, and in countless others as evidenced in the citations of the various MOH recipients. The Medal of Honor was established in 1861 during the American Civil War. A total of 3,536 of them have been issued to date (26.8.24). Contrary to logical expectation, only 618 (17.47%) have been awarded posthumously.
One would expect to be dead if a 105mm Howitzer round fired from the AC-130 gunship landed within 100 feet (30.48m)of them.

These special operators train to move until you don't have to or quit and die. Its their whole mission you protect your team at ALL costs. Lagging back on a run or a "ruck march" isn't allowed as a rule because the mission ALWAYS comes first, and they train that way. They probably train with "Simunition" so they get a small idea of what its like to get shot but their training gets as close to the real thing as possible, and thats how they do what they did.

This is because you do NOT bunch up under fire so they can't kill more than one of you with a bunch of rounds to the same place. This was NOT a moral failure by the team chief, this was normal tactics used to limit casualties from a single situation.

I wouldn't call this video a downer, yes it is extremely sad and horrific what all that young man endured in order to protect and save his men, but it gives me hope that there are still men out there that will sacrifice their all to protect their men, those who can't protect themselves, and to keep the evil away from our country, his family, and bless us all with the freedom that we have. Not one bit of freedom or breath of free air should be taken for granted. Hundreds have laid down their lives for all of us. There’s a lot of bravery here but I want to highlight someone specifically another Air Force man named Jason Cunningham he was a pararescueman new guy. Jason was on the helicopter that landed with the rangers and began treating wounded on the impact basically. He was shooting, moving wounded to safer positions, shooting some more to go grab another wounded guy take them to cover he did this nonstop even when he himself was wounded. He then realized he was hit and the ranger medic wanted to treat him he refused medical care and continued to fight and take care of his patients. At the end of the battle he was exhausted and bleeding out his eyes were fading and 30 minutes before extract he fell asleep never to wake up again. For his actions he was awarded the Air Force Cross. The team leader also received the Medal of Honor the entire SEAL team had Navy Crosses unknown amount of bronze stars with a V for Valor and Silver Stars for Valor and most men got Purple Hearts which indicates you are wounded. Let’s just say it was hard to not award every man a MoH bc they all fought like enraged animals on Roberts Ridge. God bless them all🇺🇸

In the midst of all this chaos, I'm not saying there aren't other soldiers like John Chapman, but our soldiers are calm and have the best training in the world, and the best equipment! I've seen this footage many times and it effects me the same way, extremely emotional! I hope sometime that you react to the Story Of The Tomb Of The Unknown Soldier and watch a separate video that shows the changing of the guard at the Tomb Of The Unknown Soldier. Also, please watch and hopefully react to the movie Taking Chance, a movie with actor Kevin Bacon that shows the process of a fallen soldier and how they are brought home. The care, respect, reverence, and honor that is shown to our fallen soldiers and their families helps us to better understand their loss and grief and to grieve with them.

Love your reaction. On the lighter side, when my husband and I went to sign the seemingly billions of papers to get our mortgage, they handed me a cheap pen. I told them for as much money as we were paying, I wanted a really nice pen to sign the papers. She obliged.

For the organization I would recommend a scanner/printer combo and using a auto-fill app on the PC. Essentially you scan the papers and click where you sign, it automatically signs, checks and enters information and you save or print it out filled. Typically takes some time to get the motions down fluently but can save a ton of time and hassle with paperwork.

I served in the Army, my MOS or job was 11 Bravo or Infantry (the basic soldiers on the front lines or kicking down doors) and I fought in Iraq from 2004-2005. I remember to this day the first time the poop (sh*t) hit the fan, the first time my squad came under fire. We trained hundreds and hundreds of hours for such a situation like this, and all I wanted to do was take cover. Still I did what I was supposed to do and I followed my brothers (guys in my squad) into battle, because if they were going I had to go with them. Because of that moment and fighting in Iraq I have a hard time sleeping, because I think "normal people don't run into gunfire."

Before 9/11, Chapman and his team were in Thailand on a mission. And that morning he saw the picture of the plane crashing into the Twin Towers on TV. Chapman's friend said: He will be the first person to jump in and find out who is responsible for this incident ( I heard about this in a documentary His friend gave an interview in Afghanistan.)

There's no panic because Americans are the greatest soldiers in human history. They are true men and need to be remembered as such. Bravery like theirs is what keeps your homeland free from tyranny. If you disagree, I dare you to look at how Russian soldiers are faring in Ukraine right now.

The part I dont get about this video is they claim he earned 2 medals of honor...bit the US has a rule or law that no one member of their forces can earn more than one medal of honor. Congress put that law into effect after Dan Daily was put up for a 3rd medal of honor in WW1 he was the last person to be awarded 2 medals of honor. One in the boxer rebellion the other in france I thunk it was. The Fat Electrition has a video on him and he explains the medals being changed to 1 per soldier because of Dan Daily being put up for a 3rd and being denyed because according to congress it wasnt fair for one man to earn it three times.
