Great question! I think it depends on your location (i.e Europe -> Thomann -> Harley Benton could be one option) and the style you're going for (single cuts tend to have fuller and darker tone compared to stratocasters, depending on the pickups used of course). I've had that Falcon stratocaster for around 15 years and the worst thing is using the whammy bar detunes the guitar, so I don't use whammy on it. If a bit of traveling is an option, you can try out guitars amplified in guitar stores to see and hear the differences, or if you find a used one, you can ask if you can try it first. Speaking of amplification, that's one thing you prefer on electric guitar, so you either connect it to a physical amp, or a virtual one in your PC or phone with a jack to USB cable. For that last part of your question, I'd say both! Practicing at home is important regardless, but an external guidance of sort will help you to keep learning new things.
