Hi I can remember you in the bushes (when the dog came sniffing but did not see you) and also the stealthcamping nearby the police station and at the highway. Greetings from Germany. :)
I walk there with my wife and kids all the time. We just love that abandoned campground. I always imagine all the laughter and good times people must’ve had around the campfire in years past. And we stop and say hi to the beavers in the creek; a must. Plus, I saw that Steve had stealth-camped there not that long ago. Good stuff. 👍🏼
I used to camp there as a kid every summer with my grandparents. They had a store and I would go in with a my Pennie’s and buy candy. Also there were so many squirrels that it was normal to see dead ones all along the campsite road from the cars not being able to avoid them. It was a great place to explore and meet friends at the park they had for the kids.
MOJOS!!! The greatest penny candy ever. Sometimes you could trade MOJOS for a Fun-Dip or a Hockey Card pack with that yummy stick of gum inside, if you were savvy. Stay gold.
I read "25 years ago" my brain immediately thought no wonder I've never heard of this it was shutdown in the 80s I was way to young to remember this place. I quickly realized 25 years ago was only 99 and I am older than I thought. 😢
Thanks for this interesting walk back in time. I spent my teens in Edmonton and came back often to visit my family. The flora and fauna is so reminiscent of other wilderness areas in Edmonton, that I think I’d have known where you were even if you hadn’t told us up front. Such beautiful countryside!
I camped there a few times in the 80's. I remember driving down the hill down to the campsites. It was so pretty there and out of the city a bit. Such a shame it is gone now.
I just stumbled upon this because the fact that it was in Edmonton caught my attention. When you said the creek name, I realized it's within walking distance of my home, and I had no idea 😂
We stayed there dozens of times through the 70s, i remember it being out of the city, now its surrounded. Wondered what happened to it, thanks for showing 👍
This is good to know, I was actually just visiting Edmonton from Van island. I was looking for a tenting site and this place popped up. it said closed, but I was expecting it to be still maintained? or staffed at least. Good thing I didn't rely on it for my stay as I was desperately tired from driving so long lol
I always wondered where that RV park was after watching a fella do some stealth camping there. (Hmm wonder who that was) My son just lives just South of there. Time sure changes things. Gonna have to check it out some time!
Have to say, I've lived in Edmonton almost my whole life and I never knew this was here. Sad that it's now gone. I also miss the old tourist stop on Gateway -- it was a convenient stop for people on their way into town, with pamphlets and brochures and restrooms.
@@RRExplorations I just started my exploring channel! I have a scrap metal recycling and junk removal channel aswell that’s just gotten the mini monetization! It’s cool to see more locals on here!
I have an Edmonton visitor's pamphlet from 1998 that describes this campground as having "full hook-ups, hot showers, flush toilets, grocery store, laundry, group camping & picnics (no day use), public phone and pull-throughs". I also knew a guy who would go swimming in that ravine before work 💀 i thought he was nuts lol So curious whats going to be developed in this area now knowing about the 2025 development and with the garden center torn down
Oh cool! I wasn't sure what amenities the campground actually had so that's great information. I don't know if I'd be swimming in that water now but back in the day maybe it was cleaner haha.
I live not far from there. As a resident we actually have issues with the homeless camping there - not as secret as you think. They have been grabbing shopping carts and loading it with stolen goods from the houses you showed in your video. I am shocked you did not find them. Maybe the City removed them.
@@loudalways4144 30 ave sw. accessed from Ellerslie road. There was a sink hole at the dealership across from it. The road used to have a Humpty's restaurant on it, now it's a car rental place.
We camped there in the late 80’s while visiting West Ed. They tried to kick us out because I had some friends come visit one night and we were supposedly ‘noisy’. LOL.
Greetings from Barrhead, i had no idea this existed! I know there was a mini golf place or something close to Edmonton and this one graffiti filled place due south towards Red deer i think.
@@RRExplorations This must be the one just beside the base of the ski hill, called Rainbow Valley Campground. Right? So why do you not use that name? Since that's what it was known as by everyone who did know of its existence, even though that wasn't everyone.
This has to be the Rainbow Valley Campground that was beside the base of a small ski hill, which is or was beside the Whitemud Freeway. I didn't know it closed. It was actually surprisingly nice there! But I wonder why he doesn't use the actual name that it went by for decades? That was Rainbow Valley Campground. It's corny, but it was the real name for a very long time. I believe the ski hill was also called Rainbow Valley. I used to X-country ski past it very often in winter, and I drove there a few times in summer to ride my bike. It was a very well kept secret, was very cozy and nice because it was so small. Nestled in the trees, in a secluded area with a creek, it was very pleasant, so I'm very sad It's gone!
He literally showed the sign that read "Klondike Valley Campground". This is not Rainbow valley campground, which is still open and is a little bit north of this place. Klondike Valley Campground was located where it is now named "Blackmud Creek". He doesn't use the name Rainbow Valley Campground because that is a different campground.
Too bad you weren't around 30 years ago. This place was neat. There were a lot of cool abandoned places in or around Edmonton. Celenese was possibly the best.
Rainbow Valley campground just off Whitemud Trail is in Edmonton. In winter you can downhill ski. Others are Shakers Acres RV Park & Campground and Glowing Embers RV Park in Acheson (technically also part of Edmonton).
lol, theres always one person who has to blame Trudeau. Both the highway and the airport were a lot smaller when the campground was made. And It wasn't that long ago that Ellerslie road was still just the Baptist Church and the Rugby fields on the south edge of town. Now that park is surrounded by residential.
I lived in edmonton in the ewarly 2000's and remember this park being open. It was a really dumb spot for a campground - people didn't go to Edmonton on vacation.
Don't mind me. Just stealth posting in your comments.

Had our Kroetch Family Reunions every year there and was operated by Richard Kroetsch which least from city of Edmonton till last day.
Been going for walks there for about 30 years - used to be much more ‘undeveloped’, the old campground buildings came down about 25 years ago.

Hey there! I’ll have to check those out and see if I can find information. I think I know which spot you mean down by Red Deer.
I am an Edmontonian, but I've never heard of this park. Where was it located please?
It was located in the area now known as “Tony Cashman Park” on the south side of Edmonton. If you look that up in Google maps it should come up.
Highway 2 south

@@cattymajivno. That campground is off of the whitemud. This closed one is south of Ellerslie and west of the QE2. 2 different places.
@@cattymajiv Google maps. Try it.
You should have tried turning on the taps and see if they still worked
It’s funny you say that actually I did try one out of curiosity but no luck
At 3 mins, I seriously thought that was a body with his legs sticking out by the side of the road...Just a tree lol
Please say where it is at the start, had to wait 12 minutes to hear "Tony Cashman Park" so I could finally locate it.
3:40 I legit thought that was a body 😮😂
Haha yeah I think someone else said that too
Maybe a good campground for the rowdy crowd that aren't welcome elsewhere.

That's Whitemud Creek. Blackmud Creek ends where it flows into Whitemud at 23rd ave
It was a very nice and actually quite campground. But in typical Redmonton fashion this us what happened to it.
The right wingers wreck everything. They are nutcases.

You realize this closed before Edmonton was red right? Neither political party has your best interest in mind the sooner you realize that the better.

You mean the plant? Think it's still there.
I’ve seen similar videos about this by other vloggers
Needs some major clearing!
Looks like the adjacent land is up for sale -- either commercial or residential. Gotta keep the city expanding...
Send the water pipe to CALGARY🤣🤣🥴
lol lol lol
My parents and their friends used to party there in the 70’s. They stopped when they found a dead body in a car 😳
Oh my!
Sad considering edmonton has no campgrounds
There is one right by snow valley. It's called rainbow valley campground.

Supposedly. Sound it out. Remember it.
Edmonton was also called YUKON City.........because theres always a yuke on every street corner
🤠🤠🤠
Surprised there is no homeless people
Me too actually! But it is a nice spot to hang out
It doesn't have easy access to anything else. It's down in the valley, a long way from bus routes and any services.
There's no garbage in sight. Looks very clean. Edmonton is spectacular. 🎉❤😊
The video is more about you, than the park. Sorry had to end it at 2:28.
You missed out. And it was spectacular! 😮😅
