Keith Gattis, who wrote this song, passed away at age 52, Sunday, April 23rd. Young by some standards, older than life by others. This song resonates when you need a lonely but comfortable place to take your soul.
So much talent. This song was just the tip of his iceberg.
Keith was my nephew. He was born when I was 12. He was always musical. You could be walking beside him and know that he looked like “someone”, it’s hard to put into words. His mother, Donna, and I speak of him often. It’s very hard to believe he’s gone and to let him go. Keith will be in our hearts forever.
I’ve been reading about him, my deepest condolences.
I've seen two artists that knew him & have performed this song in honor of him at their shows. Wade Bowen & William Clark Green. Two to definitely check out, and if you see them live, their renditions are fantastic.

Rest in Peace to the songwriter of this tune Keith Gattis. One of Nashville's greatest songsmiths.
Keith was my nephew. I was 12 when he was born. As he got older he would play his guitar and sing at family reunions. The last time I was with Keith was outside of Austin where he was performing. He made sure that I had a comfortable seat (it was outside) and brought a beer to me. The day before he died, his mother Donna, texted and said he would be coming to our next reunion. The next day she called with news of his death. Although it has been almost 4 months, my heart still hurts and I find it difficult to accept that he is gone.

El Cerrito Place is pure magic. I was there in October 2012-- it was like reaching the top of Mt. Everest when I got there. What an incredible feeling. You take El Cerrito to the bottom and it runs right into LaBrea, where it meets the (Hollywood) Boulevard. I lived this song, every last word of it. The best part of it was going to Santa Monica Beach, where the ocean meets the land.

2 outta 3 ain't bad. next time go to Joshua Tree and Pioneer Town - I lived on El Cerrito Pl from 1998 -2005 Worked on Hwd Blvd at Sound Delux (across the street! corner of La Brea, great commute), hiked up Runyon cyn for exercise and yeah, there were lotsa hot babes and dreamers on that stretch o' road, but I had nuthin in my pockets, nuthin' on my face and wasn't goin' anywhere with my blues band - just playin' local honky tonks was fine for me. It's quite possible me n Gattis were neighbors.
Another funny bit of Trivia, he was prolly in Malibu about "ocean meets the sand" 'cause that's where he recorded a demo of the song and met Winona Ryder...

I love this album - had it on Pre-order from iTunes long before it came out. Saw Kenny and Tim in Concert in Atlanta in May .... Kenny is my "quiet calm place" .... His songs and voice put me at peace when nothing else can. When I was recovering from breast cancer and my husband divorcing me I had to find my own old blue chair .... Thank you Kenny for getting me thru it all!

@@geoff3103 I still find it hard to believe he’s gone. He was so thoughtful and caring. I didn’t know Cerrito Place was an actual apartment complex until he explained it to me. His mother is coming to pick me up and take me to Bandera to pick up a baby conure. She asked me to name it with a name connected to Keith, so I chose Cerrita after his song but with an a because the conure is a female.
Keith’s wife sent a video to me of George Strait at the opening of his concert singing I’ve Got A Car, written by Keith. Another great song of his.

I don’t really think of a specific person when I hear this song, but it’s somehow just so beautiful, heartbreaking, and resonating. Kenny's not the first to do this, but honestly I love his voice in these kind of sad, slow love songs. He puts a lot of heart in it. I'm sure he's had enough 'lost love' circumstances that he could pour in this song. That's why I like him, you can just tell he puts his past into these kinds of songs.

A masterpiece , colorful in so many ways, inspiration that appears differently each time you listen.
This song is sad and I always wonder if he's talking about someone he let go of or still looking for someone you've yet to meet but have that special connection with, looking for another "half" so to speak. I love the lyrics how it talks about somewhere where the ocean meets the land and that little place outside the desert .. because those are the places I go when I need to center or "run" to but never to the city for too long. The longing in the music makes you want him to find her so bad . Sometimes it takes a lot of faith and prayer to be united with your true love. I seen KennyChesney at the Mizzou Arena and it was the best concert I have seen in my life! He and the band put on the best show I have ever seen and man does he draw those beautiful women to his concerts I am going to see him again and again because his songs have meaning to me!

It's great that Texas Country is getting recognized. Charlie Robison made this song famous, but Keith Gattis wrote and recorded this song first. Gattis has played with Chesney so it's not surprise to hear this song on his album. This is Gattis' second song for Chesney and he has also contributed three for George Strait. I was more surprised to hear "Somebody Take Me Home" on "The Road and the Radio" album which was written by Radney Foster and performed by the Randy Rogers Band.
