    Not gonna lie, I had tears running down my face and a huge grin the first time I watched this. It's gorgeous and I really, really wish someone would edit that jingle a bit and turn it into a commercial. We need people to vote!

    A little more info, that catchy song at the end was written by E.Y. Harburg, the great liberal activist/songwriter who also wrote 'Over the Rainbow' and 'Brother Can You Spare a Dime,' early advocate of race and gender equality, and a friend of Pete Seeger.

      William Craig Hargburg and Chuck Jones worked with UPA again in 1962 when they made Gay Purr-ee,which ended up self-destructing UPA and getting Jones fired from Warner Bros.

      Is there some place I can find an original copy of the song? It’s so catchy and I love it so much and I don’t really have the money to afford an original copy of the film (assuming that’s still available hahaha)

    Actually... It's based on a special train that actually existed. It was call the "Million Dollar Rexall" train from 1936. The Rexall Drug Store (which no longer exists) teamed up with the New York Central railroad for a special products promotion train that toured the country. The locomotive was a 4-8-2 "Mohawk" class locomotive #2873 temporarily dressed in streamline covering. It was painted blue and white with the same "shovel nose" appearance in the front. Each car had a specific job or promoted a new product. (Similar to the cartoon). The train ran for almost a year before the streamline covering was removed and the train went back into regular service for the railroad.

    a limited-stop (or sometimes referred to as semi-fast) service is a trip pattern that stops less frequently than a local service. Many limited-stop or semi-fast services are a combination of commuter rail and express train.
    The term is normally used on routes with a mixture of fast and slow services, and can differ in meaning, depending on how it is used by different transit agencies. The main benefits of limited-stop or semi-fast services is the ability to utilise skip-stop calling pattern to maximise capacity along the line, as opposed to a commuter service stopping at every station which slows trailing express trains down.

    "Jim Crow" car. They were after discrimination even in 1944! The railroads referred to them as "Divided Coaches" and they were required in the southern states.

      Kinda ironic given Roosevelt and the Democrats were the ones who turned a blind eye to segregationists in the South so they'll keep voting Democrat.

      @ericward5557 - I kind of remember that the Solid South became GOP after the Civil Rights Act was passed under Democratic presidents and Congresses.

    Fun History Fact: Unless the law ends up changing, FDR will be the only person to have been elected POTUS more than twice -- he was elected four times and served out his first three terms but died very early on in his fourth term. It was until after FDR's administration that it was made into a law that you can't be elected president more than twice -- prior to that, basically all previous presidents were George Washington's example.

    I "like" this, but it's sure hard to look at. Crude propaganda, though I'm sympathetic to the cause. Pretty sure the Steven Foster "Beautiful Dreamer" on the radio at 4:30 is a reference to the musicians' union strike of 1942-44, which left radio stations unable to play any recently-recorded music.

    I can only imagine what it was like getting ready for term 4 from FDR at that time. Probably seemed like there was no end in sight. Thank God for cereberal hemorrhage. I think the merciful Almighty intervened for us on that one. Can you imagine the power this man would have singularly wielded at the last Axis surrender?

      President Roosevelt beat the Germans and Japanese. Very wisely, he picked good generals and admirals and left the war making up to them. They ran into problems, but he stood behind them, and took care of the politics. If you look at LBJ, who was a draft dodger, he followed in Hitler's footsteps personally picking out targets and interfering with the military for his own ego. And President Roosevelt ended up dying as a result of his service to the country. A hero by any estimation, in my own opinion.

      Ed F I agree FDR was a much better president than LBJ who was another Nazi-ass Texan who wanted America ruined

      @Iafiv Iv Robert Caro and his series _The Path to Power_ . He detailed in four volumes all the corruption and graft that was LBJ. There were MANY instances of corruption during his political career, although Caro never found any evidence of involvement with President Kennedy's assassination. But he avoided being drafted into the military by using his political connections, and held out for a Navy commission, and a high rank despite no military experience. He was never in any dangerous situations, but Mr. Caro pointed out with every retelling of his service, LBJ embellished the circumstances and got "closer and closer" to danger with each recounting. He was just an opportunist, and picked his own assignment for personal gain rather than contribute to the war effort like most real people draftees and volunteers had to.

      @Iafiv Iv I understand the ratios, but having had both parents serve during World War II, I am even more keenly aware than most. Also, I served in the Army as an E-1, and so did my middle son, who was in Iraq as an Infantryman. My point is, Johnson sought a safe assignment, and held out until he got it. Contrast that to JFK, who was a war hero by any standard. And his oldest brother, Joe, Jr., who was killed in action. Richard Nixon was a supply officer on a Pacific Island, and he had no say in where he ended up. But he wrote that he was never in Harm's way, and enjoyed his job. He was at his happiest, because he was able to do an excellent job for sailors and Marines who appreciated his work. Al Gore, Jr. was actually upset and requested for his father, Al Gore, Senior and President Nixon to NOT transfer him from the combat zone he was assigned in during Vietnam. They reluctantly granted his wish, but as the parent of a son who was constantly under fire, I can understand the fear that accompanies you every day until you have your son stateside again. So, Johnson held out, pulled some strings, and got a direct commission. He trotted down to Brooks Brothers for his tailored uniform, and pranced around as the bright button phony he was. He stole at least one election, in the 1948 Texas Primary for US Senate. He was a racist. He was a bully, both physically and emotionally. ((For example, he made Hubert Humphrey come into the bathroom while he sat on the toilet.)) The Gulf of Tonkin incident was a manufactured event, resulting in the Vietnam War. Over 59,000 people were killed in combat, and twice that many Vietnam veterans committed suicide after coming home to a hostile nation. All of this is well documented, and I hope we eventually come to grips as a nation what happens when we put these bad people in any public office.

    • @edfuller6581
      @edfuller6581 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Iafiv Iv Well, I guess we are just going to have to agree to disagree. There were Texas politicians such as Coke Allred who did have integrity and ethics in the same period. In your discussion, you seem to to use generalizations which I am not familiar with. And John F. Kennedy was the son of Ambassador Joseph Kennedy, who certainly had incredible political clout and pull. Again, it is not fair to the men and women who accepted their duty blindly to say "everyone did it." LBJ destroyed our country, and he was a crook and cheat from his first steps into politics. Bobby Kennedy implored his brother to not bring him on the ticket, especially after LBJ started spreading rumors that JFK had an STD. Even as a kid, when I learned JFK had been assassinated, I felt the entire country had just heard one giant flush as we went down the toilet at that very moment.
