    If you are an electronics hobbyist, soldering is essential in almost all of your project, but the smoke/fumes from burnt solder and flux isn’t something you want to breathe. It smells bad and can be very dangerous to your health but you can reduce the hazards by employing a fume extractor. Even if you only solder things once in a while, it's a good idea to have a solder fume extractor to suck in those toxic fumes.

    I found online an amazing 3D printed model that I tweaked and customized in Autodesk Fusion360 according to my needs (source: "www.instructables.com/Minimal..." by rdmmkr used under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 / Modifications: size, 120mm fan, speed control ).

    I have used a 120 x 25 mm fan whereas the original design is suitable for an 80 x 38 mm fan.

    Built one of these fume extractors a while back with a colleague. It really served us well a long time.
    We didnt have a 3D Printer then so we used a wooden housing. Your build is really cooler. Big ups

    Well done! I’d like to build this myself. Do you think the speed control is really necessary? Seems like full speed on the fan should be fine.

    • @opengreenenergy
      @opengreenenergy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah, after making I have also realized, there is no requirement of speed controller. You can skip it

    • @diegor4966
      @diegor4966 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like how you matched the colors of your soldering Iron with the fume extractor nice touch!. I agree no need for a speed controller since you want the fume extractor to suck as much fumes as possible that is why I prefer the simplicity of the original design, by rdmmkr www.thingiverse.com/thing:3474360.

    Good design. One point I'll make is that it's generally not a good idea to insert tinned wires into screw down connectors like that. Over time, tinned wires can and will come loose from the connectors which can risk shorting out your components. Ideally you'd want to crimp connector pins to the ends of your wires like those found in dupont crimping sets.

    You don't need an off/on switch because the speed controller can be used to turn it off/on. Try to turn it to the lowest speed and then continue to turn the knob and you will hear a click.

    printed your hood, but my fan is 120/120/25 mm. does not fit because I measured the size on the model, it turned out not 25 but 24 mm

      It's due to printer tolerance which vary from printer to printer. No worry, sand the edges with sand paper.

    Good Solder fume Extractor, but one thing i do not like, that the top part cannot be screwed, i made a little 3D plate,
    and put that on top with 4 little screws, because otherwise the top remained at a crack.
