Have to disagree with you there. Sticker Star is the Brawl of Paper Mario games. It looks good on the surface, but it's bad in comparison to any other game in the series.
"Super Paper Mario was different, but everyone still loved it." Bahaha, no. People hated it for not being TTYD. I dislike it for being a rushed, rather boring game with terrible level design. The only thing it even remotely has going for it is the story.
I hated SPM more than SS,the only thing I liked was the story, besides that, there's forgetable music, bad level and character design, and some really tedious parts (3-4, 4-4 ,7-2,etc)
Remember when Bowser was a badass? Bout time he became one again. Nice job, Color Splash! Oh, and I'd take Huey over... Kersti... any second of my life.
So, funny thing. In the german Version, they made Black bowser kinda goofy...at least before the fight. When Huey says they will draw a bubble bath for him to get the gunk off, Black Bowser literally says: "...I don't believe you!" But I mean, instead he doesn't do the bad Pain-t joke, so, eh. :b
Color Splash was definitely an unexpected gem and showed that the Sticker Star format could be done right. Even though I would prefer the next game to go back to the classic format, I would also love some elements from Sticker Star and Color Splash to make a return but repurposed into the classic format. I could see some stickers/cards being reused as items. Interaction with the environment with your hammer. Environmental hazards like quicksand and poison, and have each battle take place in the area where you encounter the enemy instead of a generic stage. And also take note from some of the level design of this game, and not go back to the super backtracky TTYD worlds.
Since I first saw it, I always found Bowser's "Last Breath" attack interesting. Because of how this game handles enemy HP, he basically sacrifices all (but 1) of his HP in an attempt to get a ton back. A unique attack you don't see every day. It's also funny if he uses it again where he's all like "OK, this next attack is REALLY my Last Breath. The other one was just a warm-up!" I definitely agree with your final thoughts and much like the game, this playthrough was an absolute joy. Both editing and commentary was great to see and you listened to the viewers and acted on it, which adds to the playthrough. If there's an extras vid coming, I look forward to it. There's some pretty alright concept art in the museum.
Random note: You actually can get killed by falling debris after the final battle. You can also run out of time in every room and get an instant game over. But you have to be really, really trying to pull that one off. Like, wait about 5 minutes while the building collapses around you without doing anything. Also, LOL at the owl cast being listed at the end of the video!
There's also the fact that before you even try to save peach after beating bowser, you can literally try to run away without her but then Debris falls on her, preventing Mario from reaching her and then Heuy will say "NO! All that work..FOR NOTHING!" then Mario gets killed by debris afterwards(I believe only the curious would try this however, just like trying to fill up the ocean in Wendy's chapter)
Huey flew to the very brim of the Paper Book, spilling his contents to the real world. It flew up into space and became the black holes Mario faces. And with that, Huey fell back int Prisma Fountain, satisfied, and began to sleep once more.
I'm surprised how well this game turned out. The music, graphics, writing, and even the god damn manual just feels like it has so much love and effort put behind it. Makes me sad that so many people will dismiss it as garbage. It was also really cool to hear your perspective on things, seeing as you know the Mario RPGs front-to-back. Thanks for making this playthrough, it was genuinely fun to watch.
People dismiss it as garbage because the terrible game design like the battle system and bosses. You can say that the soundtrack, graphics, writing and cutscenes are amazing, but then again, any mediocre game like Banjo-Kazooie Nuts and Bolts or Sonic 06 can have any of those. If you say that you liked the story, graphics, music, etc, but not the gameplay, then you're missing the point of a video game, and basicly denying to yourself the fact that you dislike Color Splash. Games like Paper Jam is the exact opposite of Color Splash, with the best gameplay of the entire M&L franchise, but with a very light story and generic environments.
Kazoorion I should probably say the fact that you almost kill bowser in 1 shot with black bowsers castle is awful. Why put that card there if you can. To farm bowser? To make a collection, there's no point honestly.
To be honest, Black Bowser is the only good boss battle in Color Splash because you don't need any Thing card to win. Yeah, I now that it involves some gimmick, but it actually works unlike almost every gimmick this game has.
My biggest issue with this game is the story, because I feel like it’s a rip off of TTYD’s story Mario andPeach going across the sea to learn on a port that there is a crisis going on so Mario has to collect some special stars to fix everything up which have him go to a tower, into a fighting tournament, onto a remote island, deep into the forest, into a base led by the main villains, onto a train etc, once all the stars are collected the path to the final level (a pretty damn dark castle) is opened where Mario fights the final battle against a possessed version of one of the main cast am I really the only person making these connections?
With Huey leaving, something came out of an eye. Such substance is not called a tear. Or maybe it is. Also considering that there's a postgame and Huey left to space, I wonder what will be going on. As for the laugh-inducing playthrough cast, I don't have anything to say.
I still come back to this video for time to time for the sole reason of how much I agree with your conclusions over the end credits. I recently watched "Chuggaaconroy"'s series on why Sticker Star is fundamentally flawed, and while I agree with a lot of what he says, I fundamentally dislike the implication that Sticker Star bad => Color Splash equally bad; something which is reflected in the common discourse around this game. This is a very solid - albeit certainly imperfect game that hits all the right notes for me. I wish more folks would evaluate it in a vaccum rather than in the context of Sticker Star (and honestly, Super Paper Mario) poisoning discourse on the series.

I will say that, since this is evidently the final episode of Colo(u)r Splash, that this was an amazing series to watch. I've never been so _involved_ in something I watch like this. The editing was superb, the jokes worked, and hell, you pay attention to your audience unlike so many other content creators. It's been a long, fun, hectic run, and I'm honestly glad to not only watch this spectacle of a playthrough unfold, but to also indirectly-ish influence it at one point. Now as far as your next playthrough, I'm definitely looking forward to Minish Cap. As another side note, that final boss music? *Amazing.* And, having played the game for myself as of December 24th, Black Paint Bowser is *fun as hell* to fight. I've spanked him probably four times now.0
Mario and Princess Peach receive a letter from Prism Island, which they discover is a color-drained Toad. They sail to Prism Island with another Toad to investigate. Upon arriving at Port Prisma, the three travelers find the town deserted and notice colorless spots and objects. The central fountain is dry and missing its famed Big Paint Stars. A vault appears in the fountain, containing a paint can. After Mario tries to open it, the can is revealed to be Huey, Prisma Fountain's guardian. Huey explains the fountain is usually powered by six Big Paint Stars, which supply the island with infinite paint. He asks Mario to help recover them. While Mario is scouting the island, Peach is kidnapped by Bowser.
I actually lost when battling Bowser for the first time. I ended up running out of usable cards, and I failed to block the last breath, aka the one moment that would've secured victory. Go me. That being said, finishing off Bowser with a Drill Jump felt uber-satisfying to me~ Also, I'd like to congratulate you. This was by far the best (and funniest) playthrough you've done, for me at least. Maybe part of the reason is that you actually liked the game, just like me. And boy can I not stand the (often blind) hate this game gets all the time... Will be looking really forward to Minish Cap. This was my first Zelda game, and one that has a special place in my heart~
Can I join the "I lost first, too" club? I also flubbed the Last Breath, and of course I came to the realization shortly beforehand that my deck was nowhere near up to snuff for the final boss anyhow. What's kinda worse is that Huey apparently blames himself for not blocking the last attack if you mess it up, but then encourages you to keep fighting, a sort of "it's alright, try again" moment. It kinda made me feel for my fictional, digital paint can buddy. All in all, I really liked the final boss fight, though. It requires you to have a decent deck composition with attack and healing (since Black Bowser's attacks _hurt_, even when blocked), no forced Thing implementation (though they help), and demands some mastery of Action Commands to both get the most damage out of your cards and to prevent the boss from healing.
I guess Martinet's just there for the Luigi voice; near as I recall Mario didn't speak at all. A minor nit, it's kind of a shame the ending credits couldn't muster some better musical transitions or a more original overarching theme; Sticker Star's end credits music was one of the few things in that game I can't say enough good things about. I do like how both games call back to the original's "parade" ending, though.
I can't believe this is the 1st time where an ending, I don't cry Don't judge me, Cmon super mystery dungeon's goodbye was SO SAAAD The partner who's been on your side for probaly a year just vanishes in thin air, then he eventually comes back, but still!
On my first try of the final boss, I ran out of good cards and had no money for a battle spin. Then after I lost miserably, I farmed green energy plant.
Hi. Future me here. Sorry the Rabbids rumor was true. I thought Color splash was great, a shame everybody hates it for being Sticker Star and not TTYD. Also Charles Voices Luigi as well as Mario so, there's that.
When a hacker who's seen it all enjoys making a playthrough of Color Splash, I'd say that's a good enough review for me! Thanks for taking your time to do this one-looking forward to seeing Newer DS soon!
Is it just me or did anyone else just NOW get that prism island has its name based off a triangular prism, you know the one where you point a light at it and many colors come out. God dam I am very anobservent.
21:56 Ubisoft, after the launch of the Switch: I'm gonna do what's called a pro gamer move. Ubisoft, after seeing that the Mario+Rabbids RPG had met good critics and public praise: impossible.
When replaying the game the second time it strucked me that... 22:58 Thwomp's eyes are red (like the mainline counterpart) where in the rest of the game does have black eyes.
10/10 would Owl again. (All owls were harmed in the making of this series) (every other character was harmed after the series ended) (don't worry we have 1-ups)(we also have a lot of money from their life insurance)(yes owls can have life insurance)
Overall this game was an absolute joyride. This really convinced me to get it. Despite its flaws what I saw from all of this was a game that knows how to be both funny and fun. Well done with the let's play man. Can't wait for the Minish Cap. But now for a moment of silence for our passed owls. ......okay and moment of silence over.
You have done well... I have watched you... I will show you... your ranks... *shows Skawo's ranks with the Roshambos and museum incomplete. I am less than amazed... but you can try again... Reach higher ranks... and good things await... And now I go.
And so it's finally over. I liked Color Splash myself, enough to even 100% the game. (Don't worry, it's easier to grind when you have a walkthrough of where all the enemy cards up. It doesn't make grinding much easier, though.) Great walkthrough - your signature snark is as great as always.
remember that save block in that hallway where your chased by black paint, well if you died there, that hole in the floor is the game's way of preventing you from skipping that room, so if you die to bowser you are actually sent past the hole that you speak of
I like how Bowser's phase one sprite is his TTYD sprite with the red shell rings around the shell spikes. They're even less pronounced than they were in Sticker Star. To me, this is the ideal Paper Bowser sprite.
I did really badly in the final fight with Bowser.I made it to phase 2 alright, but I wailed on him a bot too much early on and then got struck with a 96 damage counter, killing me before Huey even had a chance to say anything. The second time I fared better, but I was kinda rubbish at some of the blocks. I actually failed to block his final attack the first time, taking 120 damage in the process. By the end of the fight I had used up all of my Mushrooms and ran out of hammers and iron jumps, and since regular jumps did nothing to him, I was stuck using Battle Spins to finish the fight.
Jesus, poor Bowser. All he wanted was a rainbow shell, but instead, he got possessed, had the shit kicked out of him, and then got blown up. #prayforbowser
I understand the generic Shy Guys, if they were replaced with Goombas & Koopas, it would fit more. But I don't understand "Generic Toads"... the Toads are basically the main residents of the Mushroom Kingdom...
The older Paper Mario games had unique characters though, with new species and such. The original Paper Mario literally had a place named "Toad Town" and it had more unique characters and species than the recent Paper Mario games. Also, as a side note, I don't even think Prism Island is part of the Mushroom Kingdom.
That ending made me so emotional. Anyways, I don't have a Wii U, but I wanna get one and play this game (along with other ones). Great job with that walkthrough, Skawo, by the way.
Excellent playthrough, I thoroughly enjoyed watching it, with some hilarious editing to boot. Thanks for all the laughs and good times Skawo :D On another note, I suppose you aren't going to finish those banners shown in the credits? Not all of them were finished, so I'm just curious as to whether you'll be completing them together with the R. Temples and Museum.

Is it just me or did anyone else just NOW get that prism island has its name based off a triangular prism, you know the one where you point a light at it and many colors come out. God dam I am very anobservent.
almost sad to see this lets play end but it had some good moments and laughs thanks skawo
I cry just thinking about the ending, I loved Huey so much, he’s a heck of a step up from Kersti
when a Game makes you cry over a can of literally just paint with eyes
21:56 Ubisoft, after the launch of the Switch: I'm gonna do what's called a pro gamer move.
Ubisoft, after seeing that the Mario+Rabbids RPG had met good critics and public praise: impossible.
There was a perfectly good opportunity for “Pixowl” there.
I'd bet Bowser comes along to the castle to Peach and say:
"MARIO! WHAT THE HECK WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY CASTLE,YOU CHUMP!"
15:03 He probably thought to leave initially though, considering his kart is now on the road and not the castle ground.
21:29 completely agreed Skawo i really want a game like 64 or TTYD
Aaaaaaaaaaaaand mario + rabbids exists. I'm sorry
AND THERE'S EVEN A SEQUEL COMING
You have done well...
I have watched you...
I will show you...
your ranks...
*shows Skawo's ranks with the Roshambos and museum incomplete.
I am less than amazed...
but you can try again...
Reach higher ranks...
and good things await...
And now I go.
MeTheMarioMan
MeTheChakronMan is a better name.
And so it's finally over. I liked Color Splash myself, enough to even 100% the game. (Don't worry, it's easier to grind when you have a walkthrough of where all the enemy cards up. It doesn't make grinding much easier, though.)
Great walkthrough - your signature snark is as great as always.
remember that save block in that hallway where your chased by black paint, well if you died there, that hole in the floor is the game's way of preventing you from skipping that room, so if you die to bowser you are actually sent past the hole that you speak of
I like how Bowser's phase one sprite is his TTYD sprite with the red shell rings around the shell spikes. They're even less pronounced than they were in Sticker Star. To me, this is the ideal Paper Bowser sprite.
Red Shell spikes?
Skawo Sorry. I meant the red rings around his shell spikes.
Phantom Drags
Oh.
Minish Cap is a pretty good game to dig up again, not sure how many people really remember it fondly. I quite liked it as a kid.
I loved that game, too, really.
Lex_Light I got as far as the final dungeon and my save corrupted
It's cool how Black Bowser (Phase 2) is the only battle theme without a Low Health version.
And that kids is why the sky is black at night
Ending the game with 302 on the ORLY? Counter
"Hope the next Mario RPG isn't &@&$ing RABBIDS." Bud, there's a Mario + RABBIDS game now... Yeah.
Yeah... Huey being the only one that can capture black paint forgot how simple it is to create it. Even Roy did an active demonstration.
Ohhhh so that's how bowser was invited Mario goes 2 his castle and says kart time
I adore this final boss theme. And I don’t know why.
That ending made me so emotional.
Anyways, I don't have a Wii U, but I wanna get one and play this game (along with other ones).
Great job with that walkthrough, Skawo, by the way.
Yeah I watched sticker star I saw how the friend from forever baisally sacrifices theirself
RIP Blue and Green
They never got to be proper ORLY colours.
Martinet probably voiced Luigi(as well as others that I don't know or forgotten).
Excellent playthrough, I thoroughly enjoyed watching it, with some hilarious editing to boot. Thanks for all the laughs and good times Skawo :D
On another note, I suppose you aren't going to finish those banners shown in the credits? Not all of them were finished, so I'm just curious as to whether you'll be completing them together with the R. Temples and Museum.
The remaining banners are "Get all the cutouts" and "Beat all Roshambo temples". Thus, I will.
Nice, good to know!
Aww. I hate games that block you into the final dungeon with no escape.
I hit the final boss with an eekhammer on the last hit.
It was hilarious
Poor Bowser he just wanted to have fun and gets corrupted and gets fucking beat while he doesn't know what the fuck is going on
26:18 don't offend Italian translators, they did a really good job.
"All i have to do is take the black paint far away from prism island"
so you never thought someone could just fucking mix the fountain again?
