There are TWO primary paths to narcissism. Interestingly theyre at opposite ends of causes. One way is to destroy self esteem so badly that the child builds a false self in defense. The other way is to OVER VALUE a child. Bail them out of everything, no consequences, giving them what they want, turning in to tantrums, etc. That can translate to really ugly "Spoiled" and potentially volatile behaviors.

Me ex was the second one (the overindulged child that is praised for no reason, told they’re special and better than a regular person just because they’re them, always shielded from taking any responsibility or accountability for their actions, ie his dad tore up his report card and yelled at the teacher when he got bad grades because he didn’t do the work-yet somehow that’s the teachers fault! ETC!) It has totally screwed up him and his fathers other golden child (who has now died due to never having learned there’s consequences for her actions because for her, there wasn’t… her narcissistic father ALWAYS rescued his golden children and blamed everyone else for their behavior! Glorified it, even! And he’s sooo good at it!).
Interestingly the other two kids (who were either skapegoats or invisible children) fared ok. Also interestingly, the two kids the narcissistic father chose as his golden children (who themselves both became narcissists) were NOT the most intelligent nor the most attractive out of the four children-quite the opposite-they were simply the most compliant when it came to eating up his narrative and not being intelligent enough to do much critical thinking; thus, easiest for the narcissist father to manipulate (and his spoiling and overindulging them WAS the manipulation! They did anything for money, including lying about their own mother to authorities!). Overindulgence isn’t the best thing for a child. And the narcissistic father’s two golden children, who were raised to believe they were already superior just by existing, grew into two of the most mediocre humans. Never learned to work for anything, or struggle, or take accountability, or humble themselves and admit mistakes (which cheated them out of ever actually learning life lessons and becoming any better!).

They’re still getting royalties from the music we co-wrote that they and others stole. I never got one cent in 60+ years. He got trapped with the boss’s daughter. Her parents are dead now. They were a part of the original group of thieves. He was only a teenager and I was 5 when it all started. They are all artists but she’s extremely jealous of me, apparently. Because the music I co-wrote with him were his biggest hits. He’s a household name. EVERYONE knows his songs. Only rich people in the entertainment industry know my name. They’re lying if they say they don’t. They stole it under hypnosis. Many, many artists, or their upper level executives, most likely, who distributed it to them. This is forced labor trafficking by coercion. And it started as child trafficking.
