The original has a band, an orchestra and of course Lionel's vocals, and somehow every single note and nuance of that recording is squeezed into this arrangement, which you'd never think could be achieved with just six strings. Yet this player achieves it and in my opinion he's the only player who could. A phenomenal musician.
Yeah there was precussion and a bass. No vocal. In no way did I not completely enjoy this. THIS WAS AWESOME. a new fan.

Kent - taking fingerstyle guitar playing to the next level.
No flashy showmanship, no unnecessary theatrics, no drama, just an acoustic guitar and his fingers, taking all the tiny details and nuances of a song, i.e., the beat, the hooks, the intros, the bass line, the percussion, the phrasing, and the full melody line, and then he makes one acoustic guitar interpret them all.
Kent is complete as a fingerstyle and as a musician.

I know Naudo, I have seen his videos especially when he was younger and was playing in some sort of a restaurant. I am a fan of fingerstyle playing, I myself play this particular style, although not as good as these guys.
I follow Tommy Emmanuel and Igor Presnyakov, I followed Andy McKee, Antoine Dufour, Erik Mongrain, Don Ross, Preston Reed, et al, a good number of the CandyRat Records musicians, i also follow Adam Rafferty, and recently Luca Stricagnoli, Justin Johnson, Alexandr Misko, Alip Bata, Frano Zivkovic and the rest of the guys.
Most of those artists have written their own music.
But those who make covers of songs using the acoustic guitar are what impresses me the most.
What sets Kent apart is the fact that one can sing along to the melody and one can hear that the phrasing is perfect, i.e., no fillers nor gaps, and no deviations, I mean like his guitar is doing the singing, add to that the accompanying melody lines of different instruments, maybe even an orchestra, and all the elements like say the hook, the lead, the percussion and the bass lines, and you have all of those elements coming out of his arrangements on one single acoustic guitar.
All of them are really, really good players, but there is something about the faithfulness of Kent's arrangements to the song, and his personal touch of using harmonics, that is simply remarkable.

For me, the difference between Alip and Kent is that Kent's playing is cleaner. You can hear each and every note distinctly, no matter how difficult the tune is, whereas Alip has more jaw-dropping varieties. His tappings and bends behind the nuts amongst other skills are amazing.
he's not showy and full of flair, but all the meaty music goodness that really matters and rises above the clutter is there. this is not a pyrotechnics show. this is an in-depth lecture.

When any instrument is played to its highest tolerance, you get a sound that becomes you. This guy IS the instrument. The guitar is playing him.
For a person that is unable to breathe, the mere act of breathing would be out of reach and impossible. Yet most of us do it effortlessly, literally in our sleep. This is how it is with Kent and the guitar. We think that what he does with it is unimaginably, exquisitely difficult, because we can't do it. And yet Kent does it without effort, and that is the whole point. You see, he doesn't make it look easy. It IS easy for him. There's no need for him to show off, just as normal people feel no need to show off the ability to breathe. Kent doesn't play guitar. He is Guitar. He breathes it.

Anyone with even a passing interest in music will know that this guy is very special but I do think that you have to be a musician (and probably a guitarist) to absolutely fully appreciate just how extraordinarily talented Kent is. The complexity of the arrangements, the unusual tuning, the ear for the various facets of the song (bassline, melody, vocal line, lead lines, percussion!) and then the ability to play them all at once. This is once-in-a-generation stuff.

absolutely! of all the fingerstyle guitar players like sungha, adam rafferty, igor etc.... you name them all. for me, there is something with kent that they dont have and i think its the simplicity and delivering whats the most important tones in a song. only kent delivers the deep feel that every song he covers and tbh i feel bad that i rarely visit my idol's channel after knowing kent even if i listen kents cover again and again. the feel that im really proud of knowing kent!

99% of candy rat percussive nonsense was trying to be something like this but failed repeatedly. I thought guitar playing and arrangements in particular were deteriorating but Kent's ability to discern what's important in music is astounding. His musicality is simply off charts. What I like about Kent is that he's meticulous in his accuracy of his renditions of the original songs. He doesn't change things. Some people like variants in covers since it adds new texture to an old fabric but Kent's approach is to let the originals speak for themselves. The merits can be argued either way, but I have been irritated on more than one occasion by covers that butcher what made a song great.
I agree & that's precisely why I like Kent's covers the best - by staying close & true to the originals, he's actually showing respect to the original composers. If one wants to put his/her own spin on a cover, IMO that person would be better off composing his/her original music instead!
It's like listening to Lionel Richie singing the original song and hearing every word of it. Just incredible musicianship! 👏👏👏
