Gotta admit, glad to see people are looking forward to thus, but kinda a letdown for me. I love when magic makes worlds with lots of intense world building, unique characters, and a feeling that they honor it's inspiration's cultural and historical roots while putting their own spin on it. This is kinda just a rogues gallery from other settings with cowboy hats, which, while fun, also feels hammy and lazy. I would love it as an Un-set or secret lair, but as cannon MTG it just feels a bit wrong. But then again, I'm a crazy old Grognard from the "good 'ol days". If people get a kick from this, then saddle up and have fun folks, I'll be sitting in the saloon nursing a beer with stories of "how it used to be" when you need a rest between heists.
It still does, but the production cycles speed means it comes out as a half-baked concept of what could have been. I feel bad for the people at the company tasked to work on the story in this profit focused Hasbro run environment.

Now, when he doesn't want to deal with cultists trying and failing to entertain him, he can call up Tiny Bones, Oko, and a few pirates from the Brazen Coalition to go out and get hammered while contributing the bare minimum to whatever nonsense Oko is doing with elks and treasure/food tokens.
Rakdos is the leader of a huge cult. Unless he's been stranded on somewhere that isn't Ravnica, he isn't doing this for the money, he's doing this for fun.
The Phrexian invasion arc ended with permanent crystal arch world tree portals on every plane. Rakdos can use his vacation time to dick around on any plane he wants now and then pop back to Ravnica and sleep it off in his blood jacuzzi at the heart of Rix Maadi.

Ah yes, because something like Astronaut Jace is only appropriate for an Unset, but Cowboy versions of all these other characters fits perfectly into the overall world of MtG canon. I REALLY miss the days when WotC took Magic even a little bit seriously
The character intro's and train heist feel like a combination of the toy story 3 opening scene and borderlands 2 opening cinematic. I don't think that was entirely intentional but it's definitely there.
Tbh even tho I don't much care for western theme stuff, this is an exception to that lol. I like it and the coincidental "Borderlands and Ocean's 12" kinda vibe. In addition, as a DnD fan I can see this having potential as a DnD campaign. Rough estimated range maybe somewhere around 3rd to 10th level or 10th to 20th or something shy of 20th depending on how wild DMs want something for something like this. A hostile desert where you not only have to contend with the native flora and fauna but also bandits, dragons, and the the riffiest riff raff that ever raffed across the multiverse either carving out a piece of Thunder Junction for themselves or racing for the same big score same as the party.
I have been waiting for so long! I talked with my boyfriend about how cool it would be to get a western-set before I knew anything about "Outlaws Of Thunder Junction" and here we are!

No directional lighting, not enough closeups means not enough showing off textures (for comparison, look at how so many more things were done in the Brother's War video)

Fun story: before getting into Magic, me and friends (who are all Magic players) played a DND campaign with a fantasy cowboy theme to it. So seeing there’s is now a full fledged cowboy magic set is awesome
if you want to make a silly cowboy plane, just create new characters that fit that wourld, shoving old characters there for the sake of it just serves to cheapen them, and make the plane itself less memmorable
The plane itself lorewise didnt really have anyone living on it prior to the omen paths though. Its sorta defined by random people from other planes being there. Whole premise is that its a literal frontier and port along the omen paths.

Karn gave up his spark and some other person exploded that spark inter-planar wide and it cured all the Phyrexianed PW's. In doing so though, caused a bunch of other PW's multiverse-wide to lose their sparks. This is what happened to Sarkhan, Ob Nixilis, Narset, etc

Jace is back as a two mana planeswalker that you can't cast for the first 3 turns.

The omenpaths basically allow anyone to pop from plane to plane. There's only marginal advantage in being a planeswalker any more.
