Riven was very Intriguing, lots of mystery and spooky moments. And say what you like about the moose bro reading "too" much. The new gen of gamers often forgets that the deep dive experience of these games is to read the story and sink in, and moose reads it well. 🤙
I actually like the fact that Ian reads it, cuz occasionally I look away from screen/use these to fall asleep 😴 So it’s nice to not have to always look at the screen!
More interesting than Myst so far to me at least. A bit funny how Ian is like "I don't like how most games just tell you the story" and then proceeds to read a literal journal for over half an hour that directly explains the story and the villain's own monologue and thoughts.
I have been waiting for you to play Riven for years. Ever since we got to see you play Myst last year, I was very eager to see what the next chapter of this game series would bring and wow! I am in for the ride, especially since we were going on many rides (my favorite part). The graphics, the lore, the mystery, the sounds! So excited!
ahhhh yay!! Riven is one of my All Time Favorite Games and my brother and I just played the remake together and loved it! So glad you're streaming the OG one :)
Thank you so much for uploading these VODs! It's so relaxing to watch and Riven is one of those new-age-vaporwave-feel-but-more-aquariumcore-feeling worlds, I tried playing it in highschool but never got far. Watching you play it now it all makes much more sense to me, maybe I'll pick up the remastered version just to look around and vibe and get my brain tickled every once in a while. Looking forward to the next one!! Also I was able to concentrate on this for 2 hours straight, usually watch VODs in shorter stretches lmao
thanks for playing these. i'd always see Myst at the store and considered getting it, but these aren't my style of games. i appreciate being able to watch Myst and Riven so far!
11:10 I love that Ian has a guide! I miss the “official guide book” days. I still have some of my favorite games that I would flip through. One of my random favs is my Pokémon Coliseum guide! As a kid it was hype looking at them and feeling like I had special secret knowledge
So so cool to see you playing Riven (and Myst) after hearing you mentioning wanting to for many years. I never played the games but I love the premise, and while I enjoyed your Myst playthrough there's something about Riven that's really drawn me in so I'm super excited for the full playthrough and I'm sure it'll end up on my rotation of series to rewatch
So dismaying to see people in the chat paying literally no attention to the reading and then going 'I'm confused, I don't get it, I'm bored' lmao. Maybe listen, or read along? just a pet peeve of mine tbh, and that's why I couldn't be a twitch streamer.
Yeah same, i couldn’t be this kind of content creator either. I think people forget how much it truly takes and that content creators are humans too! I love that Ian reads it cuz then I can listen along! Or like you said follow along myself 😊
Yes and I find it surprising to see because I feel like Ian's streams don't usually attract that kind of viewer...? I definitely feel you on it being a pet peeve! I actually love learning about the lore especially for a game like this where there's so much depth
to be fair this game is one where it can be reallllly long and boring if you aren't figuring out the puzzles. it helps Ian's played this before but I just watched someone else stream it and it was rough. i watch/listen intently and still miss a lot.
To play Devil’s Advocate, I feel like I understand the impulse. Ian’s streams don’t usually contain such extensive reading, so a new viewer could feel confused by these text-heavy games. Some folks don’t think games should be books. You’re right that they could just click off, but I think the viewer’s level of investment compels them to complain. It’s still bratty behavior if it’s meant in earnest, though.
"I'd be so tired climbing up all these ladders" The remake lets you climb each ladder manually in VR mode if you want. There's an option to teleport though.
I was eating a hot dog when I watched this, since you specifically included that as a sandwich, pimento cheese and pickles on it did you ever go back and play kyrandia after you played it in one of the bingos?
im not a huge fan of the original riven, not because its too "slow" or anything like that, but too many "behind the door" puzzles. i am a big fan of the fmv though.

Love that someone is playing the 97 CD-ROM version in 2024. Those disc swaps!
It is low-key shocking how well this holds up in terms of visual quality. Even pre-rendered, the immersion level is still there.

Had a Chicken Cali Club sub and fries while watching. Very excited to see you go through Riven!

I was looking forward to this for so long, I've never seen anything of Riven
Same! when Moose played Myst i was hoping so hard he'd play riven right after
Same! I know Myst is a big fav of Ian’s so I wanted to see more! Glad we are diving into the sequel!
Ahhhh. So excited to watch you play this. I was so traumatized by these Myst games as a little kid 😂 so spooky
ahhhh yay!! Riven is one of my All Time Favorite Games and my brother and I just played the remake together and loved it! So glad you're streaming the OG one :)
Hell yes riven!! The mystery and puzzles totally captivated me. Can’t wait for the rest!!
It’s classic Moose in a classy Moose moment!

They really need to grease the hinges on their doors they’re all soooo squeaky!

Good timing on this upload. I just beat the remake earlier today, so it'll be nice to see someone stumble through the original.

For anyone interested; I love Quern, and I highly recommend it. It may be my favorite puzzle game.
i just finished a disgusting sounding sandwich of canned spicy oysters on wheat bread, thanks for asking about my sandwich.
Tuna, And just made my husband PB&J which I find disgusting. Thanks for checking in!

I really liked the Myst series of novels as a kid. Now that you’re done with animorphs…
I grew up with Riven, but on the Playstation. The load times and picture quality was horrible but god I loved it.
Cool game, great story and scary.I like the puzzles too.
Imagine a mashup of Riven meets Dance Moms...wow!
I made burgers for dinner so... Burger Sandwich. With spring greens, onions, tomato, and chipotle cheddar.
Thanks Ian
Shoot the page turning sound at 19:20 is in another game too. Idk which game! Is it a Nancy Drew game? If anyone can help I'd appreciate it lol!
Yesss! I'm almost certain - as soon as I heard the page turn sound effect I was like wait that sounds identical to Nance
@@katrandoo Okay thank goodness it wasn't just me lol! Also, pumped for next Nance while we're on the subject lol! Shadow ranch is a fun one!!
(Gasp!) After long last…can it truly be?
The remake is excellent so far
They captured the look and feel of the classic far better than Myst remake
Hey Ian! Have you ever played 'The Mystery Of The Druids' ?
I was eating a hot dog when I watched this, since you specifically included that as a sandwich, pimento cheese and pickles on it did you ever go back and play kyrandia after you played it in one of the bingos?
I just started the remake today! It’s great
I cannot fucking wait to get to this, but I gotta watch Myst first 🙃
came from matthewmatosis
Ian have u played uWu?
two likes for the Strong Bad/Dangeresque reference at 1:22:37
