Most of us watch this channel because it has top end equipment with high attention to detail service….. I can’t help but think that most of us watching are sitting here with our sub £2k bike like the one in this video. I’d love to see more of these type of videos as it’s more attainable/relatable for someone like myself. Good work 👏

It really makes me jealous to see how you care for your customers and their specific needs. I remember when I searched bikes for my sons when they were young. We had similar needs: Should be useable for everyday commuting, for holiday trips and also for fast excursion. None of the standard offerss came close and alas we did not find a bike shop which was prepared to research to come up with a reasonably priced custom build. Please go on with your dedicated work and I hope you have the success you really deserve.

I bought an ex rental BH gravel bike with flat bars. It came with flat mount cable disc brakes that were crap .I replaced them with Ultegra calipers and cheaper Shimano mtb levers. Worked brilliantly. I used the bike for 3 years, commuting and short rides. Never had a problem.

The great bonus with a custom build for a designated trip is that you are bonded with the bike before you’ve even left home.
For me, it’s as much about the bike as it is about the ride, so this was a presentation which I could bond with.
The affordability was the double bonus.

I've always made the argument that Gravel bikes are basically evolved hybrids that are capable of what the original hybrids promised but never quite delivered on. And I think the flat bar variety prove it.

Such a nice build! Nothing beats a specific bike fit for a specific purpose to my eyes. I love this concept of do-it-all, kind of « tool » bike built with really nice components. I might end up with a bike of that sort at some point in my life, to commute / cruise around / go on a few days trip with gf or friends / have a short and fun ride going out from work… Its versatility makes it a dream bike of its kind.

I like that you feature something that is very different. There isn't anything flashy here. It's not some megabike with Dura ace on a gravel bike or anything silly like that. This seems like something that is inherently practical and everyday, designed for a specific person to their specific requirements. Its lovely.

This video kind of highlights what a practical all round bike is about. I converted my Kona Kula hardtail into something very similar a few years ago to become my winter bike. These kind of bikes can be very forgiving, comfortable and "Ace" around town on the daily commute. I built a flat bar gravel bike last summer for family holidays. Had most of the bits and found an immaculate Planet X London Rd frame with upgraded fork for £100, thru-axle spec too! Built 1x10 with flat mount hydraulics, 700x40 GKs and a rack. It’s been superb! I’ve run it single speed through the winter - just fantastic.

I perhaps would have gone for some heavy duty bitex hubs, some Ryde rims and definitely would switch out that bar for a mild riser but other than that I wouldn't change a thing on this bike I'm a fan of the "street fighter" look and those magura brakes other than than the plastic housing of the levers are the best you can get for the money imo.

Gravel bikes make pretty good allround bikes and you should build them as you want to ride them. In a few weeks, I finally get my new commuter/touring/gravel bike. I ordered it with hub dynamo, mudguards and hybrid flat/SPD-SL pedals because I want to ride in as many scenarios as I can - unless I want my carbon road bike and smash it over climbs and descents. Decided against any kind of racks because I still need to find out what kind of riding I want to do with it, primarily a fast and comfy commuter, of course trying a bit of gravel and routes I wouldn't feel comfortable with on my 25 mm rim brake steed - and finally, some relaxed tours with my mum, who got into e-biking, it doesn't feel so arkward when you cruise along on a gravel bike with mudguards. The only problem: It is a Ridley. 😁

I've owned a basic 6061 Trek 4300 T-Bone frame since July 2007👍👍. I eventually bought all new parts/components; the only original part is the rather ugly headset spacer. It's 💰85.00 for a 7075 Chris King headset spacer🤨. It came with Shimano Altus😖. It now thankfully has XT M739 V-brake levers i bought in 2006 and XT M760 V-brakes i bought in 2007. Now it has a Shimano XT M770 and M772 drive train with an XTR 960 or 970 9spd cassette (it better be the one with the 4 L 6/4 Titanium cogs, I paid
💰250.00🍁 for it😁) It was in 2008 when I started buying the XT drive train. I also put 7075 aluminum Titiec
H👹llbent riser bars on it in 2009 ($59.00), an XT 750 front derailer ($65.00), XT Shadow rear derailer in 2009 ($189.00) In 2010 I bought a 130mm 7000 series aluminum Thomson Elite stem ($140.00) Mavic 719 rims that were about $120.00 a piece than I had them assembled; i had XT hubs put in👍👍. In 2011, I bought XT M772 Rapid fire+ shifters, and they still work Great🤘🤘 also the year I bought the XTR cassette. I'm still running the original M770 XT HallowTek 2 crank middle chainring; it's definitely seen better days. I'm also still using the XTR cassette. Also, in 2011, I bought a 7075 aluminum Chris King Headset, Royal Navy blue, and it looks Great. I've never had the bearings regreased since it was put on my bike, well as far as I know. This headset cost me $250.00🍁 with tax and labour. It was a few years until I bought another part for my bike. In 2018, I decided to spend $145.00 on a 7000 series aluminum Thomson Elite 410mm seat post. They way they cnc their post and stems🤘🤘. I weighed close to 260lbs. and this thin walled seat post is still going👍👍. It would be cool to buy a pair of their 3/2.5 Titanium riser bars, but they're over 💰500.00🍁 and their Titanium seat posts are well over $300.00🍁. (Sorry😄) for writing a
n📖vel. Hopefully, you take the 20 minutes and read my reply🤘🤘

That bar is waaayy too wide for a smaller person. What is it with mountain bikers and their crucifixion cosplay?

Oh god no. Double the price. Detachable with plastic parts etc. There is no need. The frame here has proper mounts and there is no intention to remove it.

I give them 50 km and then they visit you again, crying for a more comfortable handlebar. Then they leave with bar ends. They come again, leaving with a more ergonomic flat bar. And then they come again to finally get their drop handlebar. 🫢😉
