    After an atomic bomb explodes, black rain containing radioactivity falls. It's not a rain of blood. Also, Noriko seems to have been infected with Godzilla cells in Ginza, and it is hinted in the final scene that she died and was revived by Godzilla cells.
    (In the movie, it was explained that many pieces of Godzilla's flesh were scattered in Ginza, where Godzilla rampaged.)

      Good eye! I didn't connect the dots on that. There has been a lot of speculation about the black mark, but I think you're the first who interpreted it that way. There are so many questions I'd love to ask the director about this movie.

      Please excuse me for passing by.
      The previous Shin Godzilla was inspired by the Great East Japan Earthquake, and this time Godzilla Minus One is said to be based on the new coronavirus(COVID-19). This is represented by the unreliable government, the people gathering their wits to face new threats, the pieces of meat scattered in Ginza, and Noriko infected with Godzilla cells.
      It's not a happy ending considering Koichi was exposed to a large amount of radiation and Noriko was infected with Godzilla cells.

  • @johnbabin2269

    It wasn't blood raining down on Koichi. It's nuclear ash.

      It makes the story even more compelling knowing that even if these folks survive Godzilla, they’re slowly dying from radiation. Just powerful stuff. Godzilla Minus One is movie of the year!

      @@ba2724this was my immediate thought once we saw Noriko by the end! Just goes to show how film can be interpreted differently by audiences

    • @johnbabin2269
      @johnbabin2269 ปีที่แล้ว

      @ba2724 given that none of them show real signs of radiation burns and they don't drop dead within a few hours, the biggest concern they would have would be lung cancer from any inhaled ash. All told, their prognosis may not be as bad as you'd think. They still will likely have some lifelong issues, but maybe not as bad as most would believe.

      I am Japanese and my grandfather was born in Hiroshima. It is known that immediately after the atomic bomb was dropped, black rain containing ash fell in the area. It was called "The Black Rain of Death." The black rain scene in this movie is a metaphor for it.
      I really enjoyed your review.

    The original Japanese Godzilla films used a guy in a rubber and concrete suit. What he had to go through to bring the character to life is astonishing. He couldn't see, barely could breathe, or even move. He even passed out a couple of times from heat exhaustion!

  • @tombeh

    Dude, that wasn't her blood, it was rain from the bomb and the devastation's mud, smoke and debris. And I was so happy that she had survived because it gave the lead character a really cathartic ending of not only saving humanity but also saving her, though he thought she was dead. I've seen people go, "how can she be alive?", but some people DO miraculously survive things like that. I just broke down in tears when they revealed her at the end, as did many others in the theater. With that scene, I was more wondering why did all the buildings get blown down, but the one she pushed him behind actually was still standing. Again, that can happen sometimes too, so I forgave that little bit in the movie because it could happen AND the action and emotions were going so fast there was only time to FEEL and not critique it. This is now one of my favorite movies ever, and I get to see it tomorrow again, but this time at the original real IMAX in Seattle. I'M SO EXCITED!🥹

    There is a reason why Noriko could have survived from the Godzilla's atomic beam. The hint is a black bruise on her backside neck shown in the last scene of her. That means that she have taken in remains of Godzilla's meats in her body at the mess accidentally, and the power of the cell of Godzilla made her cured or regenerated her body. That's why she have survived from the destruction like "Godzilla". I am Japanese and found the behind plot from one of the move reviews in Japan. I am not sure what would happen to her later on with the cells of the monster.

  • @Mangolite
    @Mangolite ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Just a friendly reminder.
    Your words, especially when aspiring to become a great filmmaker, hold weight.
    Akiko isn't a "fake" daughter; she was an orphan practically adopted by Noriko, who never denied being called her mom.
    After Godzilla's heat ray and the subsequent blast, what fell down was black rain-a nuclear fallout comprising ash, radiation, and water, resulting in a tar-like appearance.
    Given Godzilla Minus One's central theme of life affirmation and Noriko's determination to survive in line with her dying parents' wishes, I can only assume her survival serves to emphasize a no-sacrifice stance. Hence Kōichi ejected from the plane instead of dying as a kamikaze pilot when he killed Godzilla. Tachibana told Kōichi to “live” after showing him what he did with the jet.

    I had a hard time deciding if the acting was over the top, or as you said, it was just a cultural barrier. It never felt fake to me, but even though I have several Japanese friends, obviously I've never seen any of them in the kind of tortured emotional state that Koichi was dealing with.
    Note on the post-blast rain; it was not blood, that was a nod to the black rain that fell after the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings. this is a movie that people with a sense of history, especially WWII, can really connect with.

    Just saw Minus One. It more than lived up to the hype - I'm sure that there are a bunch of Hollywood execs that are worried about their jobs! This movie was so good, not just for a Kaiju movie but for that and everything else. Sure, some of the CGI scenes were not as fluid as Monsterverse, but it bears repeating that this film was made for a tenth of the cost of the MV ones. I loved KOTM but Minus One is one hell of an entry; it blows G 2014 and GvK out of the water!

Well, i think he was trying to get not only the feel of the original, but also the feel of the time and place. I couldn't do anything with the main character and therefore with the people's story. His over-the-top acting and self-destructive behavior towards the end and the lack of empathetic scenes with his "family" meant that I didn't care about him or her at all. Apart from the boat scene, the dramaturgical structure until Godzilla appears is also missing; he often appears suddenly and disappears again just as quickly. Maybe after 40 Godzilla films and the hype leading up to it, I expected too much. I'm happy for everyone who celebrates this film so much. For me the only thing left is the spectacular Atomicbreath.

    • @AiringAustin
      @AiringAustin  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m sorry to hear that. If you’re open to more dialogue I’m interested in knowing what self destructive behavior you mentioned? For me, by the end, Koichi stopped doing that. Especially when neglecting his family and saying Akiko wasn’t his. But the end he had a revelation to live and I loved that. The atomic breath was soooo spectacular!!!
