  • Are you interested in getting started with pastured poultry and using the Suscovich style tractor? Today we set up our tractors to get ready to move our pastured broilers out onto the pasture.
    We show how we attach the tarps, suspend the feeders, use the Plasson style bell drinkers and move birds into the tractor. We talk about our how we feed meat birds, how many we put in a tractor and how we move them daily.
    Raising meat chickens on pasture is not difficult but does require some preparation. We've take a lot of lessons from Joel Salatin's Pastured Poultry Profits and applied those in raising meat birds out on grass.
    During the transfer we make a huge mistake in moving birds out. Be sure to stay to the end to learn how we messed up.
    Sheraton Park Farms practices holistic, sustainable farming and soil building using a rotational grazing model as we try to grow more grass on our farm.

    It happened to us in a 6x9 chicken tractor with 5 wk old welsummer pullets. They all piled up in the corner to sleep and 4 were smothered. Only had #20 of them in tractor. We had to put a piece of plywood in corner. Great info, as always thanks for sharing. God bless your family. 🙏

    That's a really neat small trailer to haul the chicken tractor longer distances.
    Thanks for sharing the mistake, we all make some. It's great that you share both sides of farm life, it may prevent someone else from making a similar miscalculation.

    We use old/cheap ratchet straps to hang our feeders and waterers. The cheapest Walmart / Harbor Freight straps are more than strong enough and they are easy to adjust as the birds get older.

    Square crates have corners and Birds get crushed in the corner, use a barrel or anything round instead

    Do you feel the freedom rangers are worth the extra time and feed cost?

    • @SheratonParkFarms
      @SheratonParkFarms  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. We have had less loss due to death over the Cornish cross. I’m willing to feed a little extra to have better grow our numbers. Some folks do fine with the Cornish but we just haven’t had good luck.
