I have a 37 year old Trane original to the house. Still going strong! I clean it every year and replace capacitors and contactor every three years BEFORE it’s 95 degrees outside. It may be overkill, but, it works. Furnace is a 75 percent efficient Carrier, again works well and I check for carbon monoxide several time a year. Inefficient as far as energy consumption is concerned, efficient as far as my pocketbook is concerned and you cannot convince me otherwise. Great job Joe! Prayers to you and your family and I hope your son is healing well. Stay strong!

I have one similar to that in my house from 1990. R22 and she still works great. No coil leaks. I did put a new condenser motor on it like 5 yrs ago. They were good units

Looks awesome and your little bit of wax will go a long way to keeping it from rusting out. I have a 1999 Trane XL1800 Dual Compressor 5 Ton 15 Seer R-22 unit that I'm still nursing along and she is still running every day here in East Central Florida. We hit 99 degrees here today and she still maintained a 78 degree house temp at 41% humidity in the house. Super hot and humid and sunny outside. My attic hit 136 degrees today and the old Trane worked just fine. Gonna run it until it don't run any longer. I maintain it myself every year and it has not had any gas added to it since it was installed. Keep up the great work! Your customers will love you and you will always have a great reputation and more work than you can handle. It's hard to find really good solid knowledgeable professional HVAC service engineers these days. Thanks for sharing!

I used to have an identical unit at my house in Fairfax. It looked and sounded the same and did an amazing job cooling the house. This was the unit that started my obsession with air conditioners and it was sadly replaced with a Trane XR that doesn't even turn on. These are my favorite units and I praise the technicians that focus on maintaining them rather than replacing with modern junk.

Showing that you go the extra mile earns you loyalty and money. I just bought some of that Megiars cleaner wax.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who polishes the HVAC. I spent $10k on my Trane unit. You darn right I polish it. Same as I would with a $10k car. However, I am a little miffed that my Trane letters in red are faded. They should replace it. It is still under warranty…..

I stole your turtle wax trick! I’ve been using it on those old weather makers for the last 3 years. Thanks for the tip. Really brings em back to life!

A dewalt cordless blower would clean out the inside of the unit very quickly! You know, the same one you should use on micro-channel coils!😂

Those old Carriers were some of the best of their day. The "TECH 2000" series as they called 'em, they age very well

too bad the matching condensing furnaces weren't due to their expensive parts and crap secondaries.

@@CompactHVAC they were great furnaces otherwise - better than the new ones which while have stainless secondary everything else has been icp-level crapified.
With carrier it seems like you can't win.

My wife thinks I’m crazy but I wax our condenser a few times during the cooling season. Still looks new after 10 years. A little maintenance to the unit and cabinet goes a long way.

If you are waxing condensing units that often you might want to get a buffing attachment for your drill. I follow somebody who swears by a Ryobi one for saving his wrists when polishing antique radio cabinets.

Nice finishing touch Joe. I used to wax my condenser for years as well as the generator I installed later. That old York is still in place and still functioning as it should. I’ve slacked on the waxing though, my van and pickup are still waiting for wax too. What are you doing this Sunday? 😆

That pad has to be fixed. It is low at the house side and pooling water bad. This will lead to foundation problems, if they don't already have water leaks. And right beside a window well, too. Not good.

Question is this though.....what does it matter how it looks? Couldn't it be rusty and falling apart but as long as the coil is clean and electrical in good operation and pressures good still work just as well? 🤷‍♂️

Hey Joe, I had a company come out and do maintenance on my ac, they used that Nu brite cleaner on my 4 year old Bryant condenser and it ate all the paint off of the fins. Will that harm the condenser?? They assured me it wouldn’t but I trust your expertise.

    • @MiHeatingGuy
      @MiHeatingGuy  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

No, it won't hurt the performance. It just makes the condenser look like crap. Like the new Brian's and carriers, I use a real light solution of new bright or sometimes tripower. That really sucks. You could hit it with some spray paint to bring it back to life
