Not sure if it's related, but it's made in Taichung, and Taiwan's largest lake which is nearby that city, is Sun Moon Lake. Not sure if this is a coincidence, but I like to think that's part of the name and design. It's also a yin yang but also looks quite Japanese too, (Taiwan and Japan are close friends).
Love this knife, have the same one. Thanks for the vid, now I know what to expect! Also the stop pin plus backlock is a nice addition, takes away some of the wear on the locking mechanism
I'm the same. For a longtime I didn't like the Chaparral because of the action, the lock, etc, but my the maplewood release made me try again. Now my appreciation for the Chaparral has grown a lot. I also just bought the Sun & Moon because of how much I've been liking the maplewood Chaparral. For the last month the maplewood and the Sun & Moon have been my usual EDC.
I think the partial liners was an excellent choice. Seeing this knife opened up just reaffirms my feeling about this knife, and I will absolutely be buying one of these guys. Love the look of this version especially, and the price is really good for what you're getting imo. Thanks Nick .
Nick, if you move the black tension bar about 1/8” out of the fully seated position it will greatly reduce the pressure on the lock bar allowing for a much smoother action.
I have the Chaparral and love it. It is really thin and not too scary. Plus, I have the Raffir Nobel scales so it is classy enough to pocket when you are dressed up unlike a PM2.
Hey Nick, nice knife review but love the fact your rocking a Casio AE-1200WH. With all the watches I own I still have a soft spot for the Casio Royale! Great watch with lots of nerd value :)
Being that Spyderco calls this the sun and moon version I'm a little surprised the didn't make the sun side a blue scale with a yellow dot. I had the same impression the sun side looks Japanese. Anyway Nick your sense of humor makes your videos entertaining.
Got a robin 2 instead of a chaparral and a dragonfly because of the ergos on the dragonfly doesn't work for me and what I heard from your review with the chaparral's lockbar. I think it has amazing ergonomics and after softening a couple edges, it seems pretty perfect in every way. What benefits do you feel the chaparral has over it, aside from the steel?
I bought a couple of them , I think it is really mother of pearl. They are a great little edc knife . I believe the sun and moon refer to the freemasons.
Nick, I just subscribed to your TH-cam channel & I've recently become interested in flipper EDCs. I was wondering if you would review one my personal favorite EDCs the Altered Angel I found on Amazon. It's not an expensive knife but it's Awesome. It has D2 steel & G10 scales. BTW, I also love my ZT 0460, I purchased from Blade HQ, after watching your review. Thanks

Thank you for this tip! It's so much better now and still plenty of tension.
Really enjoy your shows Nick thank you!
Shabazz' reviews are wonderful, keep going!!
So upset that I missed this one. The chaparral is one of my fav spydies. Such a great cutter, really smooth back lock too
Should come back around its regular production.

Just got a CF chaparral. Not in love with it. Slicey, but that backlock is sticky. Thanks for the video Nick!

Would make a really classy slipjoint.
“Oops, I hit the camera with my Batman mask” - worlds that only Nick Shabazz and no other human has ever said

Why is the sun red? Shouldn't it be yellow? I've heard of a blood moon but a blood sun? Freaks me out man.
