  • While opioid withdrawal can feel unbearable, effective treatment programs can help keep withdrawal symptoms controlled and can help people reduce or discontinue using opioids. If you or someone close to you needs help for a substance use disorder, talk to your doctor or call SAMHSA’s National Helpline at 1-800-662-HELP or go to SAMHSA’s Behavioral Health Treatment Services Locator at findtreatment....

Keep going guys! If you're reading this lay on your bedroom floor unable to get comfortable in any posistion, vomiting, aches and paines, feeling really really low... ride that shit out! Each day that passes the opiates in your body are screaming in agony because they are decaying, dying and they don't want to leave but your body is doing what it does best... its repairing and removing that toxic poision... let it do its job! A new you is awaiting... :)

Just got over the worst withdrawals of my life. All the stuff out there now is laced with Fentanyl which is 50+ times more potent than Heroin. I just kicked a 10 year long habit. I almost died. Dry heave so bad I was puking blood and bile. Fever, chills felt like my frail body was laying over slabs of ice. Felt like 1000 knives being stabbed through my entire body. Cravings so bad I was literally shaking with convulsions. Ambulance came just in time as I was choking on my own puke. Don’t ever ever ever EVERRRRRRRRRRRR get involved with smack.

Currently on to day 6 of what has to be my 6th or 7th attempt at getting clean, My situation speaks to how strong withdrawal can be because for the past 3 months i have been quitting for around the first 5 or 6 days before using again, and today is one of the hardest days i have experienced. I kept a diary (and i would suggest doing the same) and in it is all my thoughts and feelings both prior to using again and also about the guilt i felt afterwards, the disappointment etc. To help me stay strong, i read these entries all the while trying to avoid going to the shop to get more.
This is the hardest thing some people will experience in a long time, but you can get through it with support from friends and family, but honestly try keeping a journal about your journey and use it to empower your decisions. Good luck

How come none of the opioid withdrawal videos on TH-cam talk about the Restless stuff that makes you feel like you're going crazy because you can't sit still and lie down from more than 7 Seconds without jumping up out of bed freaking out and shaking the cramps off that's the absolute worst thing about withdrawal .I can handle puking and pooping but there's nothing like being on the brink of mania and being so tired and having to jump up every 10 seconds just to shake off the cramps that are taking over your whole body for 3 days straight and the only thing that helps is maybe a hot shower but how many showers can you take in a day

I honestly find that one of the hardest parts to but I think I hate the vomiting the most. As soon as your done throwing up it makes you break out into the worse sweat ever, making you have to grab a towel and dry off and get now clothes or jump right into the shower. But getting out of the shower is also a horrible feeling. Hard to dry off when your coverd in goosebumps and sweating.

I wish it felt like the flu. Reality its horrible anxiety. Even sitting or laying down trying to watch a movie makes you want to jump out of your skin. No sleep for days, by day 4 your digging in your car looking to see if you can find a dropped pill somewhere, or wherever you kept your stash. Sneezing, diarrhea, no appetite. But if you white knuckle through it, by day 12 big difference.

Insomnia was the hardest part for me. 10 days without losing consciousness for a second. A tremendous fear and paranoia came over me making simple tasks like grocery shopping and getting ready to leave the house scary as hell. My mind became a confusing mess, could not decide on an item at the store or what to do with myself. Went to a trusted family member's place because I felt I needed to be around people. He handed me a tablet to busy myself with and I was horrified when I looked at it and couldn't make any sense of it. Couldnt read even because I couldn't hold the letters in place. I realized later I was hallucinating by then but at the time I thought irreversible damage had been done. I'd lie in bed at night after another long 24hr day, close my eyes, exhausted, and feel an electric buzz in my eye lids and knew there was no way I'd sleep again that night either. I could hardly keep my head up after 5 days. My first nap lasted a half hour. Woke up soaked in cold sweat (January, Canada, I like the windows open). There would be no more sleep that day and off to work. Sleep began to come in fits and starts after that. Sweat subsided. Then the boredom and depression set in for months after that. Surviving the acute, insomnia part, and I imagine terribly enhanced pain if that's the reason you're on it in the first place, likely the battle of your life (cold turkey method) doesn't necessarily put one in the clear. Watch out for that second phase which is a different kind of mind game. I made it only to fall back in it. Tried methadone👎, switched to suboxone👍, weaned down to my current daily dose of .5 mg. Excited to be so close. Excited to not have to go to the clinic and pharmacy so often like it's a part time job. Seeking help from others that have been through it highly recommended.

Thank you for sharing your lived experience. If you are in need of more support for your symptoms, the NAMI National Warmline Directory is a great resource, unlike a hotline for those in immediate crisis, warmlines provide early intervention with emotional support that can prevent a crisis - and a more costly 911 call or ER visit. The lines are typically free, confidential peer-support services staffed by volunteers or paid employees who have experienced mental health conditions themselves. After 100 hours of no sleep your to the point where you don't think you're going to ever sleep again unless your dead... joke if you want! Remember - it's your life! Horrible uncomfortable withdrawal but in a way I feel lucky it wasn't worse than what many people face. It's been 10 days off codeine for me (was on it about a year for chronic back pain from a herniated disc), and I'm hoping the worst is behind me. I'm embarrassed and haven't spoken to my family since my Mom found out and proceeded to call and disclose to every member of my family that I was a drug addict. I'm horrified and ashamed but I know I'm not the only one out there who has gone through this and I need to know now more than ever that I'm not alone. 🤧anyone else sneeze uncontrollably while going through withdrawals? No, it's not near as bad as the methadone detox (that was absolute hell & beyond, I even suffered a heart attack during the meth withdrawal) but damn...it's still miserable. Unable to eat, throwing up, diarrhea, anxiety, insomnia... The horrible thing is, I'll probably need them for the rest of my life & it's so hard to cope with that fact. I pray that this pain & suffering is gone within the next few days & I just wanna let everyone know that recovery is possible. I mean you're still messed up in the head but I wasn't seeing or hearing anything except how much I hated the feeling. People say they lay in the same spot in bed all day and night . I wish!! I only took oxys for a week daily just to numb pain. Although I don’t know if these were withdrawals I felt totally deprived of happiness, I felt nauseous, I lost my appetite I was in my room all day laying down. I got into a motorcycle accident 3 and a half years ago... ripping off half my hand and leaving the other half mangled. Turned my femur into dust as it stuck out of my knee. Doctors gave me pill after pill until I was addicted. No warnings or serious talks. Just a lot of Oxy. I got to a point where they made me feel so good I thought going through this horrible fucking accident at 22 was actually worth it. 9 days ago I decided to stop. 1 day after my 26th birthday. It sucks. I’d rather be laying on the concrete with my leg and hand in half. But it gets better. My main advice, Gabapentine. If at all possible take some. It virtually eliminates withdrawal symptoms. I refuse to ever go back. Even if that means being in pain for the rest of my life.

After 2.5 years of Codeine addiction... I realized I needed to stop after the most severe constipation of my life... I was hospitalized..
today is day 4 and I feel terrible.. the muscle & body aches are so intense... my calves feel so tense and it’s almost impossible to walk.... my nose and eyes are so runny, I’m sneezing quite often... the unstable body temperature is so annoying, one minute I’m beyond hot then the other I have chills, & freezing.... diarrhea started today and the nauseated stomach.... I’ve been in bed all day.... my sleep patterns are even worse than during Codeine..... I’ve also given up cigarettes, 8 days now....
I’ve never written a comment before, but I eyes filled with tears while reading thru some of these comments.... This pain may be agonizing, and relief by any means may be beyond tempting...but this is ONLY TEMPORARY..... what we put into our bodies & allowed ourselves to become so dependent and addicted to, is poisonous...it is toxic, to our well being, our relationships, our stability, our health, our happiness, our future.... and it is not our friend.... we do not NEED it.... you don’t need it.. I feel your pain, I feel it in my very soul... I know it’s hard, but you, me .... we can do it... stay strong, and please hold on to the reality that this is for the better....and it’s part of our life story.... I’m not turning back..... I’m not going to ruin myself... my mother, my sister, my fiancé.. they’re worth the sacrifice, I’m worth it.. and so are all of you... I send my sincerest love, and empathy to each & everyone of you battling, fighting this war... we are strong, we are in control... I love you all, and my prayers are dedicated to all my soldiers fighting thru this hell, this torture... with broken spirits and excruciating pain.... we will be ok...Love ❤️

I don’t understand opioid withdrawal for everyone. I was on oxycodone for over 3 years. I had barely any withdrawal symptoms. I just had wrestled leg syndrome for 3 days and found it harder to sleep but once asleep the kicking would wake me up but on day 3 I was perfectly fine and felt much much better more clear headed and my pain was much better. The pills got to the point where they were hurting instead of helping. So I told my doctor and I just quit. I even have over 300 pills left over. I see these videos and feel so lucky.

Opiate withdrawal, especially heroin withdrawal, is something I wouldn’t even wish on my worst enemy. It’ll put the toughest grown man you know & leave him crying in the fetal position in the shower too weak to stand. & I mean the TOUGHEST person you know. It’s down right sad. It’s heartbreaking reading how many people are on day 1,2,3,4 or 5 and they’re all from months to year(s) old comments with people asking the OP for an update & either getting no response or finding out that they relapsed and died. It’s gotten even worse in todays age. Heroin (more like poppy gum) is so packed with fentanyl these days that the withdrawal is even more brutal…To anyone going thru it, just know you aren’t alone & that if you feel like no one loves you, I truly do. & I feel your pain. Remember why you started detoxing & keep in mind that if you get thru it, you’ll never have to feel that way again. Yeah being sober is boring as hell at times, but being in active opioid addiction is barely even being alive & hell 24/7.
If anyone needs someone to talk to, I’m here. Just comment on this post & I’ll send you my personal number & we can text. You’re not alone & the world hasn’t given up on you. Keep your heads up. ❤

I was on Percocet 4 times a day for 5 years (all done legally from my pain doctor.) Now, I have to get off the meds because my health is crashing from being on them too long. Here's a few tips that helped me if anyone needs them.
    1) Take a hot shower while playing your favorite music.
    2) LOTS of chocolate candy
**3)Get a bowl big enough to put your face in. Put cold water in the bowl (ice water works best but it can hurt a bit) then hold your breath and submerge your face into the water, stay in the water as long as you can. It shocks your system but, it stops the anxiety feeling. For me this worked the best.**
4)Get restless leg medicine..over the counter
5)Imodium Ad helps with the stomach
    6) motion sickness meds worked a little bit
7)Walking helped a bit at times.

    Wonderful!? another minimization of reality.
Fact: opioid withdrawal can be summed up in one word - torture - and absolutely CAN be life threatening. I, personally, have known four individuals who have DIED from opioid withdrawal symptoms. One was from suicide. Opioid withdrawal symptoms were listed as (1)primary or (2)secondary causes of death in regards to the other three.
In most - therefore we should think of as in all - cases of addiction there are deep, excruciating, and quite deadly injuries that are hidden from the eyes of not only others but the injured themselves.

  • @adamhalstead2653
    @adamhalstead2653 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Problem is that a large number of opioid addicts will fail with total long term abstinence only treatment..some will succeed but not the vast majority..but NA loves to hate on methadone and bupe programs..once you've used opioids long term in high doses you've altered your brain and sometimes it will not be reversed..its just the brutal reality.

I crippling incurable bone disease had destroyed my life, wealth and sanity. Doctors could, or would , not provide any where near the level of required pain relief. I could understand that I was afflicted for life and could never live normally again. But that level of suffering was unacceptable to all who witnessed my condition.
Some time later I was forced to begin self medicating with illicit opiates.. My new GF walked in and said.......If you continue to use, it will destroy your life and take all you own from you.
I looked at her and answered......As opposed to what ? The bone disease had already done that.
At least this way I could reduce the suffering. For many of us an addiction to opiates is the least of all evils by far. It can save lives, but the Doctors acted like it was not even an option.
