Wengen, the car-free village at the foot of the Jungfrau, is located on a sunny plateau and presents you with a breathtaking panorama of the surrounding peaks. A train trip to the Jungfraujoch -Top of Europe is the top! The Lauberhorn Race and the Jungfrau Marathon are two of the many big events on the calendar in Wengen.
The village is located on a sunny, wind-protected terrace at the foot of the Jungfrau, 400 meters above the Lauterbrunnen valley at 1274 m above sea level. The car-free village, steeped in tradition, offers a family-friendly skiing and hiking area all around the Männlichen and Kleine Scheidegg.
Description :
With its wooden houses inciting you to nostalgia, the many holiday chalets scattered here and there and the hotels of the Belle Époque, this resort in the Bernese Oberland has managed to preserve the authentic character of a mountain village. The terrace, which opens wide to the south-west, guarantees above-average sunshine. The car-free village of Wengen has been accessible since 1893 by the "Wengernalpbahn" from Lauterbrunnen, where car parks await cars.
You can easily reach the most important excursion destinations in the Jungfrau region from Wengen. From Kleine Scheidegg you can observe climbers on the north face of the Eiger through a telescope - one of the most spectacular and difficult climbs in the world. Changing at Kleine Scheidegg, you arrive by train to Jungfraujoch. And from Lauterbrunnen, in the valley, you can reach the summit of the Schilthorn via Mürren or Stechelberg.
Winter :
In winter, Wengen is an ideal starting point for the family ski area of ​​Kleine Scheidegg-Männlichen with its 110 kilometers of slopes, easy to medium, and the mythical descent of the Lauberhorn, a ski world cup event. The neighboring ski areas of the Jungfrau region, Grindelwald-First and Mürren-Schilthorn are also easily accessible. The clean air, the long sunshine especially in winter, the toboggan runs and fifty kilometers of winter hiking trails also attract non-skiers.
Summer :
More than 500 km of marked hiking trails and 15 ski lifts in the surrounding area lead you to the most beautiful viewpoints in the Jungfrau region, for example the panoramic path between Wengen and Kleine Scheidegg, from where the view of the he imposing rock massif of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau is particularly impressive. If you like adventure, you can try your hand at paragliding, rafting and canyoning. And, if you want a fascinating experience, don't miss the Eiger-Trail, at the foot of the north face of the Eiger, a mountain hike of medium difficulty.

Towering mountain ranges, picturesque valleys and the largest contiguous glacier region in the Alps: our world heritage counts among the most spectacular high mountain landscapes in the world. With the Eiger, the Mönch and the Jungfrau, without forgetting the 24km2 of the great Aletsch glacier, it represents the heart of the Alps. The region brings together extremely diverse living spaces, from glaciers to rocky steppes, and relentlessly bears witness to the consequences of global warming. These landscapes have played a particularly important role in European literature, art, the history of mountaineering and alpine tourism. Few sites on our planet offer such a diversity of contrasts and natural wonders.
